DrJB Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 To reduce noise created by the brushes. Not sure noise is the issue here ... and I know this because, I work on noise (for a living). Quote
nerdsforprez Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Power puller tires are $30 each! Yea... PP tires are getting really expensive. That is why I have been advocating for a while to use 3rd party RC tires. They are much better quality, and can be much bigger than even the PP tires. We have thread on the forum addressing all the ins and outs of 3rd party tires. Quote
1974 Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) Not sure noise is the issue here ... and I know this because, I work on noise (for a living). So do I Then you don't work with noise from DC motors, DrJB Noise is a wide spectrum (pardon the pun) and DC motors certainly create a lot of hash (and it's not the good hash, allthough I'd like that!) Those that have gone bad on me ... they become very difficult to spin by hand. I wanted to cut tje capacitor and see if that helped ... but that's been a while. From my electrical course years ago, a capacitor is needed in AC motors to reduce effective power (Cos Phi) ... in DC motors however, I'm not sure what a capacitor is used for ... unless it's for some current limiting protection. Anyone knows for sure? The capacitor needed for an AC motor have nothing to do with the capacitor often/but not allways fitted for a DC motor. The workings of AC/DC motors are very simply and info can be found at wikipedia and dozens of other places Edit : Philo has a lot of info about LEGO motors, including inside pics : http://philohome.com...s/motorcomp.htm Thank you for the detailed answers ... I envy your collection, but even more your dedication. Cheers. And I thank you for asking boatloads of questons! This (and the answers) is what makes this forum interesting No need for envy, it's just LEGO I may have loads of micromotors, but I don't have a single reddish brown part. Others have thousands of those and I do not envy them. I've bought what works for me, everybody (I hope) does the same Dedication is very simple. Do it, or don't Cheers, Ole Edited November 11, 2014 by 1974 Quote
1974 Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Can we see more of your protoype collection please?....its rather fascinating to see what TLG made moulds for and then ultimately rejected. There was a link earlier in this rather interesting thread When seeing the post about these non-existing parts, I was sure that you would post, 1974 I remember the never produced & purple technic parts that you posted on http://www.eurobrick...75#entry1738379 :) But unfortunately I didn't save the pics back then, and the links are dead (Scroll back a bit to see the various pnuematic cylinders) And my reply : Hi antp Yes, that subject surely makes me wake up Links are back and I'll upload more funny stuff today I'm going to take better pics and index the lot, but until now you can find all of it here : http://blacktronite.com/odd_1.JPG ... just change the number .. goes up to at least 80 (but that'll keep increasing!) S.I Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) Nothing past 26 or so is loading for me. E: ok, so JPG changed to jpg after 26 or so. Edited November 11, 2014 by S.I Quote
DrJB Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 One must ask: .... how did you manage to collect all those 'unique' parts ? ... special/insider connection from within TLG? ... perhaps someone working in the prototype lab? Quote
1974 Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Nothing past 26 or so is loading for me. E: ok, so JPG changed to jpg after 26 or so. Yeah, sorry 'bout that One must ask: .... how did you manage to collect all those 'unique' parts ? ... special/insider connection from within TLG? ... perhaps someone working in the prototype lab? I reckon an avid poster like you must also be an avid reader, no? It explained just a few posts ago in this very thread : http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=101081&st=50#entry2048083 Cheers, Ole Quote
Richard Dower Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Hey guys!...just wanted to point out some Technic parts i spotted in new colours from some 2014 sets! This part is now available in Yellow from this Chima set: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=70142-1 Also part # 10247 is available in White: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=10247&colorID=1&in=A If you spot any recent Lego sets with new Technic parts in new colours please post below! Richard Dower Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Grrr!...one of the most stupid and bizarre design changes in recent memory imo. The old design is way better!...that slot on the side made the engine block look MUCH better!, but for some reason in 2012 they changed the mould design and released #2850b....now the slot on the side is underneath the engine block....why? Why change the mould design? Quote
Zerobricks Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) I think the mould was worn out and had to be replaced so they decided to also update the design. I prefer the old one too. Edited November 25, 2014 by Zblj Quote
DrJB Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) It is not just for looks ... with the old design, you could push a thin knife to get the pin out, and such feature they've implemented in many technic parts. Also, the new design seems to use MORE plastic. You're right, not sure what the logic is. Edited December 7, 2014 by DrJB Quote
Mikuri Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I think we should keep 1 thread for both new/updated parts @_@ I swear the technic forum has too many threads daily. To be on topic, yes indeed they switched it, I kinda like the new ones better, it hides the pins on the sides... :) Quote
thestericho Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 is the old design more sought after?, does anyone know when they brought this design change in I seem to have a mix of both old and new designs.. :) Quote
D3K Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Maybe to keep the colour across the engine more consistent in regards to parts? So you don't see a blue 3L pin in the crack for example? Quote
Jim Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 is the old design more sought after?, does anyone know when they brought this design change in I seem to have a mix of both old and new designs.. :) They started replacement in 2009: http://www.bricklink...sp?P=2850b&in=S I will merge this topic with the General Part Discussion topic: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=101081 Quote

DrJB Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 (edited) And a lot of black panels too. If you're after the black panels ... wait for the next BrickWorld and get a pre-owned set from 2012 (Senior Solutions). It came with 28 black panels ... and you can get it for ~$80.00 Edited December 8, 2014 by DrJB Quote
