pcsguy88 Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Does Lego make a functioning sprocket for it's individually linked caterpillar treads? One that is panzer worthy and can be powered by a motor? Quote
Saberwing40k Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 (edited) Does Lego make a functioning sprocket for it's individually linked caterpillar treads? One that is panzer worthy and can be powered by a motor? That depends on what kind of tracks you want to use, as Lego makes 2. The smaller kind: These tracks can be used with any straight gear, as in regular 16, 24, and 40 tooth Technic gears, as well as both kinds of Technic turntable. These tread, however, are a little bit weak, and not well suited to a large motorized vehicle. The larger kind: These larger treads are newer, and more robust, and unlike the smaller ones, are more suited to large vehicles. They also have specific sprockets to use: Sariel actually devotes an entire chapter in his Unoffical Technic Building Guide to tracked vehicles and related things, you should check it out if you're into that kind of thing. pcsguy88 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 (edited) Thank you Saber. Mine are from the Sandcrawler, so obviously the top. They seem decent enough to run inside on short carpet and leaving the outside to my aluminum beasts. :) Now to find the right sway arms, road wheels and torsion springs. Moz Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 70165 seems to be a must have for parts! http://www.bricklink...v.asp?S=70165-1 Like weavil says, worth it just for the panels - 12 at $4 is $48 of the $99 set price, plus there's a 5x9 frame and some other goodies as well as the silver bits. And some 4x1 plate hinges that I always seem to end up short on when building the decorative bits on models. And a brick separator, which I am always short of because I rarely buy non-Technic models. With any luck I just got 4 of them from BrickLink for $75 each, after the seller had pulled the minifigs. It's a win-win, I don't have to try to resell the figs, they're happy to open the boxes so I don't have to pay to ship those, and with any luck I can negotiate a deal based on not getting the stickers and some of the other cruft as well. In Oz selling the minifigs is a nightmare, shipping costs and limited local demand mean it's usually not worth while. So finding people who just want the minifigs and a bit of cruft is really nice. Even at only $4/fig it's a win, in the past I've ended up selling figs that go over $20 on Bricklink for $5 because that's all the locals will pay. Quote
Corvette3 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) I nearly got one at $109 AU the other day, i really wanted all those black panels, but i was not sure how much else was useful, i was hoping those wheels were blue too, but they just had blue dishes covering them. Richard Dower Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I just bought four 19L Red flexible axels/hoses for €3 each!....expensive but they are brand new and its not easy to find those Red hoses. I will use them for a rainy day when i plan to build one of the old Lego Racers sets. Got some more old style Technic panels as well, love the old style design....they were all brand new as well :-) Quote
davebarrett Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 @moz: Not sure about the deal there—new black panels from Bricks and Pieces are EUR 1.34 from the Irish store. AUD 1.60 from the Aus store. Surely a better deal from there? Quote

Surely a better deal from there? Or $2.50 if you want more than 10. a guess, I admit. I do think ~$AUS90 each for the sets is reasonable though. Quote
weavil Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 But I want it for the non-Technic parts too. Quote
Richard Dower Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 (edited) WOO HOO!...i *finally* bought the new Flat Silver panels from that Guardians Of The Galaxy set! I got all 6 panel tyoes for €6 brand new! :-) http://www.bricklink...v.asp?S=76021-1 I also have the Light Bluish Gray panels from the 7160 Drop Ship: http://www.bricklink...nv.asp?S=7160-1 I am thinking about trying to build a car using LBG and Flat Silver panels....and to make the other elements LBG in colurs. Its sort of an attempt at making a Silver-ish looking car...as much as possible. I also bought ten of the new 1x11 Flat Silver liftarms....they should look nice in a model. DrJB Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 (edited) Are you trying to reproduce this car by any chance? Edited December 14, 2014 by DrJB Quote
Richard Dower Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Are you trying to reproduce this car by any chance? Not a specific model per se....i just want to find *some* car model to use these parts in. I cant get all the parts one would need in Flat Silver or Metallic Silver....so the closest colour available to the Flat Silver panels in the LBG ones from the drop ship. I think both colour types will work well together in car fomat. If anyone has any ideas for a car please let me know! Quote
DrJB Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Silver, gray and red go very well together ... Quote
aol000xw Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Is there a specialized part to attach any of those to a studded or studless part? I need a "fixed end" and the solutions I came with are a bit bulky, suggestions are welcome. Quote

There is no real specialized part, but I've used standard clip pieces with the chain links, and the tread links will actually fit in any pin hole, albeit very tightly. Quote
Zerobricks Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 And plates also fit nicley on the thread. Quote
Saberwing40k Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Here's another one: Track links fit perfectly in 1x1 bricks, as seen in this thing: Quote
DrJB Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) This should be rather obvious. The wide tread link connects easily to the underside of a studded plate/beam. Edit: obvious easy ... based on aol000xw answer below Edited December 17, 2014 by DrJB Quote
aol000xw Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 I don't own any wide tread link and I am building in LDD, which is awful managing chain links. It was getting hard to get something useful but I already improved what I was trying quite a bit, thanks. This should be rather obvious. Nope. Quote
Saberwing40k Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Yeah, some parts fitting together is not always obvious. Might I ask what you need this particular parts combo for? Quote
