Aanchir Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 90 dollars (hoping they don't shoot MM vs SG to 35 Euro!), and I believe 140 dollars for the SW sets. Actually $150 for the Star Wars sets. Three $20 sets (Cody, Jango, and Luke), a $25 set (Obi-Wan), a $30 set (Vader), and a $35 set (Grievous). The BIONICLE lineup this year is pretty affordable, especially when you compare it to other themes like Ninjago. Based on what we know now, the summer Ninjago wave will run you about $380 if you want all 24 new minifigures. And that's just nine sets, four of which are $10 Airjitzu sets. In other words, just five of the summer Ninjago sets add up to more than the total cost of all 18 BIONICLE sets this year. With that said, a lot of BIONICLE's appeal has always been that the figures are priced affordably. Only vehicles, Rahi, playsets, and a handful of titans ever climbed above $30, and this year stays true to that with an average price of $15 per set. Quote
Nekchir Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Good thing I have enough time to save a few bucks for the SW sets. But I'm also glad that I'll be only spending 90$ this time around. Quote
TheOneVeyronian Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I'm also glad that the Bionicle summer wave is surprisingly affordable - £76.95 in the UK will get you all the wave. At that price, I'm actually thinking of getting some doubles on day of release. Anybody who could suggest Summer wave sets to get doubles of for parts? I'm thinking doubles of Warrior, Scorpio and Grinder all of them will do. And I suppose it's just as well - I have Jurassic World setting me back £299.94 and Ninjago is going to set me back an estimated £300 - and the Star Wars Constraction anything up to £150 (more if I get doubles - luckily I have a friend who may be getting review copies of them which he might give to me if he doesn't like them...) Oh wow, this post made me realise just how much money I spend on plastic Quote
BrickBuilder3213 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I'm buying spares of Warrior, Slicer and Basher, once I have one of each Summer set on my birthday. However... A spare MM vs. SG set might be worth getting at a cheaper price. And Scorpio's not really worth getting a spare of, unless you NEED new recolours. Is anyone else happy with getting black ball joints with each large set? Quote

Oh wow, this post made me realise just how much money I spend on plastic I'm most likely skipping Scorpio since I'm only interested in his tr. lime pieces, the black spikes and the special Kaka.. Mask of Stone (but seriously, I still feel like calling them with their G1 names). Not enough parts to justify a purchase for me, not at full price at least. The others are a definite buy for me, and I'm very tempted to buy doubles of the 3 mid size sets at the very least, I need their pieces for my own villains. But I want some SW sets too (Darth Vader and Grievous for sure) so I can't spend all my budget on the BIONICLE sets. Quote
TheOneVeyronian Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 (edited) the black spikes What black spikes on Scorpio? Do you mean the Titanium Metallic appendages? Now I'm thinking about it again, I might be modifying Scorpio to give him poseable legs, so the main bit attracting me to Scorpio (the Titanium Metallic appendages) I might get spares of without buying a double. So I might not need a double of Scorpio after all (his Tr. Neon Green bones also appear in some Ninjago sets so I might grab some off BL). Does Skull Grinder's horns come in any other sets in black by the way? I know I need some extra for an MOC I'm doing, so if they appear in any other sets that would make their availability much better. In fact, I forgot: it's my birthday on the same month the Bionicle sets come out... I might not even need to buy doubles myself after all Edited May 12, 2015 by TheOneVeyronian Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Considering I'm a LEGO Star Wars collector, this $90 pricetag for all of the summer BIONICLE sets makes me giggle. The Star Wars sets this year will be setting me back around $700.....At this point, LEGO collecting is more addiction than hobby. But really, I cannot wait for the summer sets and story. Those set descriptions really showed that the summer has a lot of potential..... Quote
Kalhiki Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Never did the math, so glad to hear the full set is rather cheap. That being said, I'm still not going to buy them all in one go, which I do quite often. MMvSG and Basher will be day one purchases. After that I haven't decided. Slicer will probably be last. And it's a toss-up between the other two. Quote
MakutaOfWar Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 The only problem I have is I'm running out of room in my room. c_c Time to get a job and an apartment. Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) ....I feel bad for Slicer, because no one likes him. I really wish that they had given him a trans-green (or, even trans-orange) Skull Spider mask. That would have made the set a whole lot better. Edited May 13, 2015 by LN-01354 Quote

The designers had to give him twice as many arm segments and weapons as a normal character, and to keep him in the price point, they cut off on everything else. I only wish that he was upped to $20 or even $25 or $30 to give him the menacing, Greivous look, but alas, he isn't the main villain of the wave by any means. Edited May 13, 2015 by legozebra Quote

Quisoves Pugnat Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I like Slicer. He has an elegant simplicity. He's certainly better than Pohatu. Quote
Chimaninja454 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) I will buy the Basher. Slicer and Grinder sets. Good thing I have sine bucks for the Mixels and Star Wars constraction sets. Edited May 13, 2015 by Chimaninja454 Quote
Aanchir Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I'm a fan of Skull Slicer. Sure, he's bonier than the others, but I like the variety that offers. This way Slicer seems quick and agile (almost like a ninja) compared to a heavily-armored powerhouse like Basher, and the sheer amount of movement in the arms lends to that effect. His colors are also generally well distributed. Quote
GK733 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I have most problems with the mask. It's good it's at least told in the story but I would prefer it to be a little more than just a plain silver which is already distributed in 4 sets already. At least have a gunmetal one, it's already kinda strange that only warrior is only having his in gunmetal and rest are in silver. Slicers mask is just cheap and you can't deny that. Quote

With all the new molds floating around, was it that hard to make just one recolor? It could have been like the (shudder) Brain Attack beasts where the brains changed color to match their owner... This also brings up some story questions.... If they're all animated corpses, then why is Slicer he only one with a skull spider mask? And if they aren't, why is Slicer the only animated corpse? And if they say that the skull masks they all wear are morphed skull spiders or even other skull masks, then why does Slicer have a regular skull spider mask only? Perhaps I'm thinking too deeply into the matter... Quote
One Very Agile Cat Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Maybe Slicer's a rouge element, or the others were reanimated by Makuta first, and Slicer was reanimated afterwards. You raise a very good point regardless. Quote
DraikNova Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) Maybe the others were reanimated by another means? Maybe Slicer was already wearing a Skull Spider mask when he died? Maybe they took some random skull masks that they found when they were reanimated, and Slicer took the Spider one? a rouge element Or maybe Slicer took a hint from the Joker and decided to add lots of make-up to his mask, making it look like a Skull Spider. Quisoves Pugnat Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) Maybe Slicer's a rouge element, Nah, Grinder's the closest to red. I like the Skull-Spider mask. It adds to the whole Temple of Doom-Kali vibe, in a way that the other available masks wouldn't, and for which a new mask would be superfluous. Edited May 13, 2015 by Quisoves Pugnat Quote

I might not even need to buy doubles myself after all I was confused about their colour for the longest time, but I think they're black. The plastic used for them is pretty shiny, and titanium metallic is very very dark, so it's easy to mix up the two colours. I myself thought for a while that Grievous's torso shell was titanium metallic (which wouldn't make much sense, as much as I'd like it). The colours are that close. ....I feel bad for Slicer, because no one likes him. I really wish that they had given him a trans-green (or, even trans-orange) Skull Spider mask. That would have made the set a whole lot better. Those two colours would've been cool, but the 4 Skull villains use metallic colours for their masks, so either of them would've broken the scheme. If anything, I agree with those who said a titanium metallic mask would've worked wonders- it's a bit annoying that Warrior is the only one to use a titanium metallic mask (and a silver chest, but that's beside the point). And completely unrelated, but since I wanted to post these for a while- am I the only one who.. 1)..is curious to see how the silver torso bones would work on the Toa? 2)..thinks that the 2016 Toa might use the new Star Wars shoulder pads? Those remind me of the Nuva shoulder pads so much I wonder if it's just a coincidence. Quote

I'm still convinced they're Titanium Metallic (it'd fit better with their pseudo-mechanical appearance), but black would be welcome for those pieces too. I'm really not fussed. I'm looking at Scorpio right now, and the parts that can only be black (the Y joints, cup-cup bones and it's barbs) do appear darker than it's legs. Titanium Metallic looks more likely to me, but at the same time it could be a lighting trick and they are all black. Remember how Pohatu's bones appeared trans-yellow but actually turned out to be trans-neon green? Might be the same here. 1)..is curious to see how the silver torso bones would work on the Toa? 2)..thinks that the 2016 Toa might use the new Star Wars shoulder pads? I'd find some in black really useful, but we'll probably end up with gold instead . Given the Round Shell Detail piece (one of my favourite add-on pieces) isn't coming back anytime soon, looks like these will be their replacement (and they do look like Nuva shoulder pads - I just hope we don't get the sets we got this year next year, just with new pieces for armour just like we did in 2002) so I'd be suprised if they only appeared in Star Wars...
