Heroica RPG - Quest#125: The Dollhouse

"'Quiet! Miss Lilly waits for you upstairs. Use the vines to climb up.' Looks like you're right about the window, Alexis." Arthur says nothing about Miirym. If she thinks she can do any better on her own, then...then good riddance! His conscious thoughts did nothing to relieve the twisting, gnawing sensation deep within him, however.

Perhaps as a distraction, Arthur quickly climbs the vines after Alexis.

"Very well then," Althior makes his way up last, Finnegan hovering behind him. When at the top, he makes sure to shut the windows behind him.

Althior glares at the Assassin. "Not as much as you'd like me to," He did enjoy it, a little bit, but he would never admit it.

"I probably should be, but my mind is on other things. I seem to recall that being a common issue with us."

The three heroes made their way up along the vines growing on the side of the mansion. When Arthur got to the window at the top, he saw a nursery on the other side, and a blonde little girl waiting for them inside with her hands on her hips. Trying to be as silent as they could, the heroes climbed through the window.

"You finally got yourselves hauled up here, huh?" asked the little girl precociously. "I'm glad you weren't dumb enough to try and get through the door - that would have totally ruined everything! My name is Lilly Stella Primrose Ziegfried, and you're going to help me fix my dollhouse." The girl pointed at the model house sitting on a table in the corner. "It's making all these funny noises at night that I don't like at all!"

"So what do you want us to do? We're not small enough to fit in there..."

[K-Nut]

"Is it really?" he gives the dollhouse a quick glance"What kind of noises? And what does this have to do with Blutos return? You did mention him in the quest pitch," He looks over past the girl and to the door, "Also, why wouldn't you want your parents involved in this? If there really is something going on here, they seem like just the people tell. They've even helped me out from time to time,"

"So what do you want us to do? We're not small enough to fit in there..."

He gives the assassin an inquisitive look, "Why would we want to go in the dollhouse? There's nothing in there that we can't see from just looking at it," he turns back to Lilly "You're not planning on shrinking us down, are you? I'm a little bit, well, uncomfortable in tight spaces."

"Hello, Lilly, my name is Arthur Justus Regulus VII. I don't know if Valentine has spread word through the family yet, but..." Arthur pauses, a little worried about his fellow party members' reactions. "I'm Noel's half-brother." No going back now, he thinks to himself. He braces himself for a snarky comment from Miirym, but it doesn't come. Not sure if I'm relieved...or worried, he admits to himself. His insides twist themselves a little more, but the Weather Mage forces himself to remain calm. He distracts himself by introducing the others.

"Anyway, you probably already know Althior, and our Assassin friend is Alexis Fenral. Oh, and the floating...blue aura thingy is...wait, where is Finnegan? Althior?"

"So what do you want us to do? We're not small enough to fit in there..."

"Oh, ye of little faith. A Scroll of Minimizing would shrink us right down to size, if we had one."

"Is it really?" he gives the dollhouse a quick glance"What kind of noises? And what does this have to do with Blutos return? You did mention him in the quest pitch," He looks over past the girl and to the door, "Also, why wouldn't you want your parents involved in this? If there really is something going on here, they seem like just the people tell. They've even helped me out from time to time,"

He gives the assassin an inquisitive look, "Why would we want to go in the dollhouse? There's nothing in there that we can't see from just looking at it," he turns back to Lilly "You're not planning on shrinking us down, are you? I'm a little bit, well, uncomfortable in tight spaces."

"It's probably bigger on the inside," Arthur suggests, "or it might open onto its own demiplane. The spacial dynamics are a bit complex, but it's workable. How do you think our equipment bags work?" He chuckles at Althior's nervousness. "Either way, it's the most logical explanation for how something could be in the dollhouse bothering Lilly without setting off our family's protective wards."

Arthur turns back to Lilly. "I think I second Althior's questions. Well, the first two, anyway. The answer to the third's fairly obvious."

[K-Nut]

"Anyway, you probably already know Althior, and our Assassin friend is Alexis Fenral. Oh, and the floating...blue aura thingy is...wait, where is Finnegan? Althior?"

"Probably too much of a wuss to come through the window. He has a weak bladder. Well, he would, if he, well, you know-" he stops himself in the company of the child. "Trust me kid, you'll absolutely love having him around." he grins, sarcastically

"It's probably bigger on the inside," Arthur suggests, "or it might open onto its own demiplane. The spacial dynamics are a bit complex, but it's workable. How do you think our equipment bags work?" He chuckles at Althior's nervousness. "Either way, it's the most logical explanation for how something could be in the dollhouse bothering Lilly without setting off our family's protective wards."

"I think she would have noticed something that large within her dollhouse. Even if you're right, what would explain the other childrens inability to hear it? And I'm sorry, our family?"

"I, er...found out a few months ago that Valentine Zeigfried is my mother. It's a long and painful story, but we're working to patch things up now."

"Not sure now is the best time to mention that," he gestures to the child behind them. "We're trying not to traumatize the kid, remember?"

[Sandy]

"So what do you want us to do? We're not small enough to fit in there..."

"We must go in and take a look around by ourselves. You're coming with me. I have just the spell to shrink us down. Knicked the scroll from the library."

"The noises are like... whispers and stuff. Can't really make out what they are, and when I look in, I can't see anything. They started around the time my brother came back, all bearded and grown. I asked him what he had done to my dollhouse, but he swore he hasn't touched it. And my parents don't believe me either! Nobody else can hear the voices. But you have to believe me, because I hired you." Lilly pouted and frowned to emphasize her words.

"Really?! I like Noel a lot! He's so handsome! I will marry him when I grow up. Just have to get rid of that girlfriend of his first..." There was a dangerous glint in Lilly's eyes. Then she sized up Arthur. "You're not as handsome as he is. You're too old."

"Ta-dah!" Lilly took out a scroll from under her pillow. It seemed to contain a minimizing spell.

"Huh? You sound like my parents! Stop it and talk so I can understand as well!" Lilly held up the scroll. "Are you ready to go? One, two, three... Hmm, I wonder if I'm doing this right?"

It was Althiors fault for thinking that a child would have enough information on Blutos condition "Well, if we must..."

"Huh? You sound like my parents! Stop it and talk so I can understand as well!" Lilly held up the scroll. "Are you ready to go? One, two, three... Hmm, I wonder if I'm doing this right?"

He stumbles back, abruptly, knocking into Finnegan who had just entered. "Might want one of us to handle that, Lilly. Regulus, you have more experience with scrolls than I."

"I'm no magician, it works better when I hit things. Give it to the crazy man." Alexis winks at Lilly.

Arthur is a little off-put, but manages to maintain his composure. "Err--right. Well, to make a long story--no, wait, maybe I should start from the beginning. You know how space is three-dimensional?" The Weather Mage draws an axis for each dimension in the air. "Well, it's actually possible, with a knowledge of ley lines and a hefty Ether supply, to--" he stops himself, clearly having lost at least a few members of his audience. He sighs at himself. "Sorry. Guess I'm not the best teacher. Basically, through a lot of complex effort, you can fold space--that's the three-dimensional space in which everything exists--back upon itself, provided you put the extra space in a closed container, with a predefined doorway between it and the rest of reality. The downside being, the more people do that, the easier it is for demons and chaomancers to rip holes in reality through to the Void, but, well, no one really seems to care about that part." Arthur shrugs. "I may know more about this kind of stuff than is really healthy, but whatever."

"I suppose I could cast the spell for you if you'd like, but I'd be happy to try and teach you what I know about Scroll-casting if you prefer to cast it yourself."

Before Arthur could do anything with the scroll, the door to the Nursery opened, and in stepped Lilly's cousins, Merlyn and Morgan.

"Stupid, those people are from Heroica! Don't you recognize them?!"

"Oh yeah! What are you doing here in the middle of the night? And Lilly, you're supposed to be in bed already!"

She didn't want to worry any of the adults, so she had us all come up here. Don't worry, Schuester knows we're here and what we're doing," He leans in closer, "Besides, you really want your parents to come in and spoil this fun?"

I'm going to be out of town for the next few days. I might have some connection tomorrow, but probably not for at least the next 24 hours.

I think too much, Arthur thinks to himself.

"We should call the nanny."

"Oh! No, that's...that's really not necessary. We're all friends of the family--well, Althior and Alexis are, I'm just family--and we're only here to help Lilly. No need to worry!"

"I can do what I want." Lilly blew Morgan a raspberry.

"Oh! No, that's...that's really not necessary. We're all friends of the family--well, Althior and Alexis are, I'm just family--and we're only here to help Lilly. No need to worry!"

"Family, you?! Wearing a pointy hat doesn't make you a Ziegfried!"

"That does it! Nanny Phee! Come here!"

The door opened again and a worn-out looking woman hurried in.

"Darlings, what...? Eek!" The nanny began to scream as she saw the heroes in the nursery. "Get out of here this instant, you perverts!"

Before the nanny could do anything, she collapsed to the ground unconscious. So did the children and the party as well.

"Good luck, little sis."

When the heroes regained consciousness, they found themselves in a cramped hallway. They were by themselves, with no sign of the children or their nanny. They had been lying at the bottom of a staircase. There were doors on three of the walls, but the fourth wall was oddly absent. There was a huge drop to an immense blue field where the floor ended, and in the distance they could make out an endless striped mountainside stretching as far as the eye could see.

The heroes heard the sounds of a heated argument behind the door next to the staircase.

"Absolutely wonderful, I'm putting this on you two for being creepy. I say we investigate the argument."

[K-Nut]

Althior's vision seems to get fuzzier and fuzzier as the nanny enters the room. As he begins to collapse he sees- no, was it? He looks at the boy standing before awakening in the dollhouse. "You said yourself I'm not a people person. Kids just, well, aren't my thing," He stares out to the striped mountains. "Looks like the spell worked then. Might as well start with the argument."

The heroes saw no better option but to enter the door where the voices were coming from. Stepping through it they came to a parlour where six young women were shouting at each other and throwing up their arms. The heroes soon noticed that the women were not human, but man-sized dolls.

"I am clearly far prettier than any of you!"
