TomKraut Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I'm really glad that TLG are better at designing toys than they are at internal communication! Quote
kirkwoodproductions Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I'm inclined to trust the email from LEGO more. Do we know that person who said Flama is male actually deigned the characters and isn't someone just having a laugh? Quote
DraikNova Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) Well, Thoth is known to be a minifig designer for LEGO. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if the TV series decided to make Flama female despite Thoth's intent, compounding the problem. Edited January 9, 2016 by DraikNova Quote
Mr Greeble Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Noooooooooooooooooooooo! Why did you have to bring that up! To quote amazingbricks, here we go again... Quote
Chilly_Productions Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 How about we stop arguing? and just wait until ACTUAL NEWS comes out about Flama's gender. Quote
DraikNova Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 How about we stop arguing? and just wait until ACTUAL NEWS comes out about Flama's gender. I've tried saying that, but it never seems to work. Quote
benderisgreat Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Guys why are you discussing tv shows character gender in thread for sets and rumors? Last 2-3 pages are just pointless character gender discussion! Quote
BrickFit26 Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I'm looking at this from a positive side, and its hilarious. First we get confirmation from designer, then a different confirmation from LEGO. Like you guys have been saying here we go again lol. Quote
Iku Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) Well according to the voice acting for Flama in the Merlok 2.0 app, Flama is a guy: I made an account just to post this considering everyone is so riled up about this debate. Edited January 9, 2016 by Iku Quote

I'm more inclined to believe that Flama is male, because you can't accidentally hire the wrong gendered voice actor. Quote
x105Black Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 There are shows with male characters voiced by females (Bart from the Simpsons) and females voiced by males (Tina from Bob's Burgers), so the gender of the voice actor is irrelevant to the gender of the character. Sounds to me like the character was designed to be male, but LEGO took that design and interpreted the character as female. I'm still sticking with gender fluid. Quote

Well, to be fair in the linked vid, Flama does say, "[s/he] want ANOTHER crack"... The plot sickens! Quote
Vorkosigan Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 After some cursory searches I didn't find a good picture of it, so I wanted to point out the alternate side of the starter pack poster is quite nice: Quote
Chimp Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Well apparently sex and gender are two different things from what i been yelled at. So Flama could very well be male but identifies as a woman. That good enough for ya, Caitlyn. Quote
BrickJagger Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) "The Lego Nexo Knight is a great story line". Yeeeeeah, there's pretty much no way this employee didn't pull out Flama's gender from the site. Another mystery: How do you pronounce "Flama"? Is it "Flay-ma" or Flah-mah"? This might be the most confusing Lego fig of all time. How about we stop arguing? and just wait until ACTUAL NEWS comes out about Flama's gender. Because that wouldn't be any fun, would it? I made a thread about this on the embassy forum: http://www.eurobrick...opic=119590&hl= Edited January 9, 2016 by Chilly_Productions Quote
8BrickMario Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Just got the starter pack today. I'm quite fond of the baddie's face, and the poster is very nice. Also, wow. Two different confirmations...Since it seems there will never be an official answer, I'm considering Flama to be a female (I think it's pronounced with the word "flame" in it) and if the show says otherwise, I'll just be glad for confirmation. While I do see it in the torso, the design is so ambiguous that it's not hard to see why LEGO seems to think they're female. Heck, all of us initially thought so, too, and there wouldn't be a debate if the material surrounding the show was so inconsistent. Quote
BrickFit26 Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Whatever Flama turns out to be, Flama is a really great minifigure. Im excited for that ultimate flame set. Quote
Chilly_Productions Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I hear some people say that they will like Flama less if it's male, which perfectly shows how so many people are obsessed about gender. Quote
8BrickMario Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I hear some people say that they will like Flama less if it's male, which perfectly shows how so many people are obsessed about gender. I think we want LEGO to introduce more female characters in their lines. Yes, it doesn't really matter whichever gender they are, but I personally like to have more female characters, and Flama seemed more feminine to me. Quote
Lyichir Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Personally, I'm happy that there are at least a few female characters other than Flama... and I'm more than happy to headcanon Flama as genderfluid, particularly since the fig design itself seems somewhat "fluid" as well. Toth, if you're still watching this thread, could you share which of the other figures/sets you had a hand in designing as well (at least, of the ones that are currently available)? I'd be curious to know. Quote

I've been going with "Flah-mah" personally. "Flay-ma" sounds too much like someone with an accent using a slur. I'd be curious to know. Flama is supposed to be representing lava's liquid state, so fluidity is appropriate. I'd love to see some of the original concepts for Nexo Knights, much like these original Chima concepts. I'm a fan of Boudon / Toth, and would be really interested in that art. Now that I know that he was involved, I'm not at all surprised. Especially considering how much the lava characters look like his old demon concepts. Quote
Mr Greeble Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Also, if you watch the little ads in the game that give you extra memory bits, it shows a new NK pop-up book in the background. Looks pretty cool. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow. Quote
CM4Sci Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I haven't seemed to stumble upon any of those hidden things. Also there's apparently a "menu" with a "Knighton Daily" and "Videos" section, I'm not getting that? Quote
