"Oh great," groaned Sylph in a tone either resembling bemusement or resentment, "you've domesticated him."

turning to the scientists, Sylph stated, "This session serious then. The animals have devoured the local fields and judging from my conversation with them just now, this is happening forest-wide. We were sent for by a child who saw a flash of light tumble towards the earth from the sky; a falling star of sorts. Would you know anything about that?"

Vindsval places the bird onto one of his shoulder spikes and moves towards the scholars.

"It would seem that your companion, or at least someone with knowledge of your signal, has managed to travel some distance without you. Clear to where we hope to find our destination in fact. How very curious. Three unrelated yet intertwined paths, all leading to the same end."

While waiting for a response from the scholars Vindsval looks at sylph.

Tell me Root Binder, could you ask my new friend here what I should call him?

"Of course." Stated Sylph, "Friend, bird, what do you call yourself."

"He probably calls himself 'Tweet tweet chirp katoo' or something like that."

"You two have yet to explain where you are from. I hope you don't mind if I ask? I think we'd be able to help you find your friend, but I need to know the whole situation. I hope you understand?" Anninenal asks in a diplomatic tone. She downs a potion while waiting for the two to respond.

"We're from the Academy of Enlightment. We just recently started working out of there, after the death of a few teachers opened up a few, uh, spare rooms."

"No... No, we haven't. Perhaps it could'e destroyed a major food source, thus the unrest?"

"He probably calls himself 'Tweet tweet chirp katoo' or something like that."

<Up yours too, you prick, caw!

...Aherm. You can call me Poe. And, uh, I happen to know a thing or two about this area. before all the even bigger, scary monsters - like elephants that were somehow ON FIRE for instance - went off to live in the Fields of Glory, they used to romp around here. There used to be a Hunting Guild here, but something caused them to disband a looong time back. So long, my grandfather learned it from his grandfather's grandfather, caw. Some of their buildings are sitll hanging around.

Let's shove off!>

"Best of luck!"

yvAMBwz.png

"Please, bring back Gregor...It's too dangerous for us. We'll hang back here."

The party moves onwards, the biologists fading out of view. They walk under the thick canopy of the trees, flanked by deserted woodland, the beaten path slowly fading as the party forges into uncivilized territory. However, they stop when the lush canopy vanishes.

An entire field of oak trees was just torn to shreds. It looked like a tornado came through - as if the trunks were simply torn off their bases and destroyed. What could cause this...?

The party could head Northwards or Westwards.

"I said I'm sorry!"

He paused.

"Was that an educated guess or did I spontaneously start understanding bird?"

"Hmmm... maybe the trees were ripped up by gale-force winds caused by the meteorite's passing." said Throlar, incredibly nonchalant for someone who was looking at the aftermath of a awesome display of power. He tired to see if the area of the devastation was triangular, as it might be if his theory was correct.

The destroyed trees were assembled in no specific pattern. There were skid and crush marks on the grass, perhaps from the same force that devastated this area.

"Okay... as my first theory has been disproved, I suggest this destruction was caused by an elephant on roller skates."

"There are some things that need no translation." Stated Sylph taciturnly.

"Perhaps, this is the work of some beast of the forest. Enraged and starved like the rest? I can think of no such being at the moment, though... Poe might."

"Poe, do you have any idea what might have caused this?"

If the Mountains be Northward, I say let us continue to our first objective, Find the Earth Star, and bring it home to our small employer. What say you Annienal? I will follow where you lead.

Posted

Annienal looks at the broken trees, and tries to determine where the broken tree line begins and ends. (Is it a straight line? Does it go North, or in some other direction? Or is it something different?)

"I've... never seen something like this before. Well, I've read about dragons tearing kingdoms asunder, and how the orcs would occasionally clear sections of forests to move their larger siege weapons across land... but this looks like something sweeped across here..." Annienal made a cutting motion in the air with her hands, before realizing it was a little silly looking and stopped.

"We can head North, but I'm more than a little curious as to what lies to the West. I mean, what's the worst..." Annienal stops talking, puts her hands to her mouth and bites her gloved fingers, ceasing her opinion before she jinxes the party.

The shattered stumps are arranged in an oddly misshapen circle, a blemish upon the lush forest. There really wasn't any rhyme or reason to how they were destroyed, but at least it was a relatively small area of the forest that got devastated like this...

The path Northward seemed relatively clear, up to the point where it lead to the densest packed part of the forest.

"I'm sorry, but can you mention that bit about orcs again?

Throlar looked west.

To the West was a fairly straightforward trail. hrolar could make out some sort of stony structure at the end of the path amidst the brush, but it was hard to tell what it was.

Vindsval runs a finger over Pox's small green head.

It would seem we may venture into the dark or into the keep. If you are leaning towards the west I will not dispute your decision. But make that decision quickly.

Warlen said nothing, but drew out his Magic Compass, hoping it would point the way to the fallen object.

"Good thinking." Remarked Sylph, pulling out his shovel to dig through the dirt to see if he could find anything.

Posted

Vindsval looks around at all the furious digging and decides he might as well help in the search. He picks a particularly large torn tree and begins digging next to it with his Shovel.

Come Poe, let us aid in the search for clues to the Forest's destruction.
