Throlar punches the elf in the groin.

"I'm not some hired killer off the street! Find someone else to do your dirty work you son of a bitch."

Throlar throws his punch, and his hand is met with Gord's mouth, who quickly bites down, causing Throlar to draw blood as his teeth sink into his flesh. (-5 health, bleeding 5 at the start of next combat) Gord grins sadistically, his mouth covered in blood.

"Unless you'd like me to bring this attempted assault to the authorities, I'd advise you to either take my offer or leave." He motions to the guard. Milligorian laughs as Althior reels Throlar back.

"Keep your dwarf under wraps, sir." He states to Althior.

Vindsval steps between the dwarf and the elf, making a rather solid wall of flesh to keep the rat whisperer at bay.

I apologize for my. . . companion. He rarely thinks before he speaks, or at all for that matter. I cannot pledge to you a guarantee of service in this matter, for we are also here on an urgent matter of our own with sever restraints on time, but who is to say where any of our paths may lead.

Vindsval looks the Kobold up and down, trying to determine if the dwarf's cowardly blow caused him any injury. If Throlar has injured you in any way, please allow me to offer my services as a healer. You will feel better than the day you came of age in but a moment.

The elf shrugged.

"That's all it was, an offer.

He hasn't hurt me, and I doubt Gord isn't injured, but I believe you should bring your attention to your dwarf. He seems to be bleeding profusely."

"No, I can understand. Kobald's can be vicious at times, too. Which is why I enjoy Kord's companionship."

Kord grins at Althior, the dwarf's blood still dripping from his mouth.

"Let him bleed," Althior states, simply yet sternly.

Althior smirks. "I should look into it," Finnegan gives him a death glare.

There are those among the northern people who believe the ill humors and inner demons can be released through blood letting. Perhaps this will improve Throlar's manners.

Althior chuckles. "Always have a way to put it into elegant phrases, don't you Vind?"

My father was a learned and well read being, even by the standards of Men. When one is viewed to be a beast at best and a creature of the nightmare pits at worst, it is well to be able to speak beyond what they view as my station. The farmer finds it harder to kill the beast who speaks. Vindsval gives the last with a fanged grin with mirth that reaches his eyes.

Posted

Throlar shrugs off Althior, gazing at the pair before him.

"Suulno anh mauw dir oshuul, nazar."

With that he strode off to the residential district.

Posted

Althior rolls his eyes. "Splitting up it is I suppose. Vind, perhaps you should follow our dwarven friend so as to not get into too much trouble. Sorrow and I can head to the temple of Helvetia, then meet up with you two in the alley way,"

Posted

I nod, heading with Althior, but first...

"Throlar. Promise me Diane does not perish. I don't care if these men want her dead, and I don't care if she committed a crime. Death will not be the punishment. She will find another way to repay her debts. Understood?"

With that, I walk away with Althior.

"You ever worshipped Helvetia before, Althior?"

Posted (edited)

"I myself am not really a man of faith, Sorrow," Althior states. "When I was resurrected, I didn't think it was the work of Helvetia; it was simply the work of some Necromancer. I believed as though I had owed it to this so-called Necromancer to continue his craft; to allow other the second chances I myself was allowed. I am a man of business, Sorrow. I believe in debt. Now don't get me wrong, I believe in the gods, but I have not worshiped them until as of late. Once I found out the, well, odd circumstances of my revival, I felt as though I had owed something to the deity that had allowed me to continue life. And thus, I am here," Althior didn't really want to go into the specifics. Some things had to remain sacred, did they not? "How long have you followed Helvetia, Sorrow? Quite possibly a few hundred years I'm guessing..."

"I decided she would live as soon as those men offered me money for her head. An insult like that cannot be borne. And then there are moral considerations. Have fun at the temple."

"Four centuries, yes. And I know that she was not responsible for my ressurection. But - and this may sound like insanity, likely because it is - but the first time I died, I remember seeing an icy woman walking in the flames. Maybe just because fire was what did me in in the first place, so I hallucinated something cold? I don't know."

I shrug.

"I'm contemplating whether or not I should contact a few people that I have lost over the years."

"I decided she would live as soon as those men offered me money for her head. An insult like that cannot be borne. And then there are moral considerations. Have fun at the temple."

"Good. Thank you, Throlar."

Posted

"I understand, my friend, and I do not think you insane for it. I know what it is like to hallucinate in death. I thought I was dead for years, but it turned out only to be a hallucination; an ordeal created by the people I thought I could trust. In order to 'better' me, they said." He trails off before snapping back into the conversation. "You surely know Helvetia is perceived by mortals to be an Icy Woman; the Frostheart, I believe they call her. Your vision makes sense, and your response was logical. My experience, well, it was different. I would like to believe that I also responded to it logically, but perhaps I did not. Though we are alike in many aspects, Sorrow, it is apparent that we are different in just as many. I don't think either of our paths is superior to the others, but I do believe that they have each formed us into who we are today,"

I feel splitting us into the living and unliving components of our party may be a mistake, but as you wish. Farewell, and let us hope we meet again soon. I am uneasy in this place of resentment and prejudices.

Vindsval strides after Throlar and catches up to him in several steps. He moves up beside the angry little man and matches his pace.

You shame both me and our history together Throlar if you would believe for a moment I would deign to take a woman's head without cause. However, I would have hoped that one with your diplomatic training would have been able to control himself in such a situation. We two especially are vulnerable here in this city of the dead. We can ill afford to make enemies out of those we meet. I do not doubt that we will have much opportunity for battle in this place. We need not go out of our way to find it. And in regards to that enforcer, well perhaps I have an idea that will satisfy both his and the young woman's ends. If you can hold your temper, perhaps we could discuss it on the way to the RESIDENTIAL DISTRICT But before we arrive there, please, try to keep your temper in check. We will already be viewed as outsiders by these people, do not antagonize them to violence without need.

Posted

"The elf is as much of an outsider as we are, and that freak is his only guard, he can't send messages out of this city either because of this strange order that no one can leave the city, and on that score I'm slightly dubious as to the origin of these orders..."

Posted

"Never underestimate the powers of subterfuge inherent in the Glade Born. They are nothing if not comfortable in their webs of information. So tell me Throlar, what history do you have with our two companions. I know of them only by reputation, but you seem well acquainted."

Vindsval continues walking slowly with the dwarf, hoping to begin some conversation. He has travelled with the man before, but still knows very little about him.

Posted

"Well, I can't enlighten you on the nature of Sorrow, I know very little about him, but the other, Althior, is the second most utterly selfish, amoral bastard I know."

Posted

And who holds the Title? There seems to be a great deal of bad blood on both sides. What happened between the two of you? For two men to have that low of an opinion with one another it usually takes a woman to be involved.

Where are Sorrow and Althior going? I don't think you've made it clear? Either that or I'm missing something...

Vindsval looks down at the shaft stuck in the ground at his feet and then up at the man standing on the rooftop.

This must be the "Sniper" the guard mentioned. The man targeting the people of this town. Tell me Throlar, does a man who attacks traveller in the night, strike you as one who is in need of a lesson in manners?

Vindsval looks up at the man in the wide brimmed hat.

It would seem you wish to be set on your path to the next life. If this is your decision, allow me to guide you to its beginning.

Vindsval Draws Verkenner from its scabbard on his hip, spins it in the air above his palm, and with a flick of his hand, sends it flying at the Sniper.

"Ayup."

And with that succinct remark resounding in the ears of all nearby, he leveled his lance, charged, rammed the tip into the earth, and vaulted himself onto the roof.
