Okay, update will come tomorrow. I've got a few set photos to take and then from there we should be smooth sailing to wrapping this up.

In the meantime, I'm getting your stats updated.

Okay, so everything's ready for the next set of pictures.... except I can't find Amber Makepeace's fig. So until I get a moment to look for her, bear with me.

Althior consumes a Grand Tonic: +15 ether.

Scroll of Luck: 2 (Success! Althior is Lucky! -10 ether)

The party descends into the depths of the underground, Vindsval finding it hard to squeeze. The air is stagnant and mouldy. The walls are lined with loose brick, masonry work that appeared to of not seen hundreds of years of work. The corridor looked like it could come down on them at any minute, but it thankfully didn't. The party could hear footsteps going back and forth, back and forth, as if pacing up ahead, a source of light glistening in the dark. Rounding a corner, the party enters a large library, filled with rotting tomes and decaying woodwork. It seemed anything of value had been looted already. A table and chair sit in the far corner, on top of which sits a candle, a single gold bar, and what appears to be a severed head, blonde golden locks flowing off the edge of the table, tied back into a ponytail. The head seemed to be rotten already. Behind that seemed to be the only thing of worth: a solid gold chest. A cool breeze washed through the room and soon became apparent why: a passage way had been opened behind the desk and chair and between two bookshelves. A secret passageway, perhaps?

A dark haired woman paced close to the table, looking irritable and obsessive over something. Her ripped and worn cloak flowed behind, with many open holes in the fabric. She locked eye contact with the party, narrowing her dead, glossed over eyes.

12327074964_f4fa26ee43_o.jpg

"Glad you could make it to my last performance her in Fellcrest. I'm going to be as simple as I can be: put your weapons away, or you can kiss this meeting goodbye. You four have pissed me off enough today, and I'd personally prefer it if we all left this room in soon state of life. It's up to you four, though."

The party can see movement in the secret passage, but it's not clear who's back there.

Amber looks flabbergasted at the heroes' request for her to speak first but she nods, frowning as she does so.

"You want me to talk first? Fine. Why are you here? I've kept myself low for long enough that I had hoped you'd of forgotten about me, but it seems that now I'm left wondering what business you have in Fellcrest."

Enough double talk, So much time lost by those who would obscure the way. It was your Father who sent us here Madam. He fears for you, and wished for us to return you to him. Now please, I have spoken plainly of our intention, please do so in return.

"Pfft. Don't be silly. I've been to the other side, I haven't taken the whole tour. The afterlife sucks if my experience is anything to go by.

There's an ulterior motive for everything. The dark dwarves have a saying: no deed is done for free. There is a reason you're here. You know what I think it's for, Althior? It's to see me. You know... I could get behind that... if you weren't responsible for Silivia's death."

"Yeah, what they said, and also because I really don't like you. Though I think you knew that already."

12327074964_f4fa26ee43_o.jpg

"That's okay, dwarf, the feelings are mutual." Amber drew her gloved hand to her mouth and held it there for a moment before blowing the dwarf a half hearted kiss. She seemed somewhat out of it.

"I assume you have pieced this together, but we disagree with your plans. That's why we're here. As for who put us up to it, well... I'm unsure if you're ready to know that yet."

12327074964_f4fa26ee43_o.jpg

"What do you mean I'm "not ready"? I wasn't ready for a lot of things, but here I am. I wasn't ready for dying, I wasn't ready for being resurrected, I wasn't ready for you murdering Silivia! I mean, you bring her down here in a state of enthralment for Helvetia's sake! To do what? Salt my wounds? That's cold, Sorrow, even for someone like me." Amber looked on the edge of tears seeing Silivia in her current position. "You've made this personal for me, Sorrow, and I intend to do the same to you."

Enough double talk, So much time lost by those who would obscure the way. It was your Father who sent us here Madam. He fears for you, and wished for us to return you to him. Now please, I have spoken plainly of our intention, please do so in return.

Amber seems aghast at Vindsval's revelation. Her eyes dart and she turns away from the party, obscuring her face. It takes her a solid couple of seconds before she turns around and looks at Vindsval.

12327074964_f4fa26ee43_o.jpg

"I figured it'd be him. I guess I.... just needed to hear it coming from you four." Amber sits down in her chair, looking introspective and calm for once.

"I have the spell finished. This library held the answers to finalizing the spell. Imagine, a bunch of idiotic old wizards accidentally turn an entire town into a necropolis and lock their secrets away underground. This whole place is teeming with old wizard labs and rotting spell components from when this place was run by the living, and then BANG! Everyone winds up undead, and those that didn't go crazy started up a town in the ruins of the spell's destruction. My time here was used perfecting that spell that will turn Eubric into a necropolis... and also hopefully ensuring it doesn't explode once it is complete... or halfway through the spell, it wasn't quite clear on that bit, but whatever. I have the location all set out. I have the various spell components being transferred to the city... it'll be a few more months, sure, especially with you four shaking down the entirety of Fellcrest to find me and what I had hoped to be a base of operations, but I have it all ready to roll. It's just a matter of time now..." Amber lifts her arms into the air, giving a weak, but triumphant smile. "A matter of time until I win." Amber shrugs.

"So... what are you going to do now?"

Posted (edited)

"I gave you fair warning, Amber. And I do believe Silvia was the one who turned Lyudmilla against us, so... You'll have to excuse my lack of sympathy.

Well, as you've probably deduced, we're not huge fans of you committing a mass murder. I think you're ill, Amber. You're not putting the pieces together. You don't understand what you're doing is wrong. And you don't understand we're here to make things right.

Gentlemen? I think we might have similar ideas right now?"

Vindsval speaks softly to Sorrow and the others.

"I believe she has gone quite mad in her search for absolute power. We cannot allow her to complete this ritual."

He then addresses Amber

You must know that I, we, cannot allow you to destroy or even alter an entire city to suit your own designs. Is there no way we can convince you to take another pat?"

"That's okay, dwarf, the feelings are mutual." Amber drew her gloved hand to her mouth and held it there for a moment before blowing the dwarf a half hearted kiss. She seemed somewhat out of it.

Throlar bowed dramatically.

"Oh please, Sillvia chose to fight us, it's not like we stabbed her in the back with a poisoned dagger while she was sleeping or anything like that, I admit that having her here as a mindless undead isn't exactly nice, but Sorrow doesn't really have any control over who he raises, it's completely random. And you're a fine one to talk anyway, what about you possessing the countess? Or going farther back, how about the paladins you raised as mindless undead? Admittedly most of them were probably racist bastards in life, but I doubt they deserved mindless slavery. Or these other ghouls here?" he pointed at the rotting undead, "These were yours a while ago, and they were just as empty then as they are now! These were people Amber, and you or Sillvia just turned them into this... this parody of life, no, sorry, this parody of undeath. If you're going to try to guilt trip us at least have the decency to not be a hypocrite about it!"

Amber seems aghast at Vindsval's revelation. Her eyes dart and she turns away from the party, obscuring her face. It takes her a solid couple of seconds before she turns around and looks at Vindsval.

"I figured it'd be him. I guess I.... just needed to hear it coming from you four." Amber sits down in her chair, looking introspective and calm for once.

It's just a matter of time now..." Amber lifts her arms into the air, giving a weak, but triumphant smile. "A matter of time until I win." Amber shrugs.

"So... what are you going to do now?"

"Let me get this straight, you are planning to use a spell that has the potential to backfire explosively to turn one of the most chaotic, disorganized, badly run, corrupt, and economically powerful cities in the entire world, a city that is, I may add, currently led by six houses and a crime ring who are all fighting each other like cats and dogs over utterly pointless feuds, is at the center of all trade on the Crystalline Sea, is the center of operations for the paladin order, and has over a fifth of it's population walled off from the rest of the city, into a necropolis? And you also believe that this will not only somehow solve all of the city's problems, but that (presumably) you will become the leader of this new necropolis and that everything will end with that?"

"Ehehehe. Eheheheeheeheeheehahahahaha-"

He took a deep breath, seeming to calm for a second, before flinging his head back and shouting at the top of his voice;

"AMBER MAKEPEACE IS AN IMBECILE!"

He took another shuddering breath, before lowering his head again.

"Look, even if you manage to pull off the whole 'turn the city into a necropolis' thing how do you think everyone will react to it? You said yourself that there's a chance of some of them going insane, and the one who don't aren't likely to take too kindly to being turned into undead, the aforementioned paladin order especially. And what on earth makes you think that poverty or racism will just vanish? To paraphrase my good enemy Eric 'an undead orc is still an orc'. Undeath isn't some great unifying factor.

And what about everyone else? How do you think the other nations of the world will react? Do you think they'll look at Eubric and say 'oh look, everybody there has been turned into undead by some crazy necromancer, cool! Let's act as if nothing has really changed at all and treat them as people and equals!' because they won't you know. Nor will they see you as some friendly advocate for undead equality. They'll see another necromancer with dreams of of world conquest, and to be honest, I've met you in person and I wouldn't be surprised if you were planning to take over the world. They will see the center of trade of half the world attacked, to the nations of the Crystalline Sea, no, the entire world, this will be no less than an act of war. Think of it, every kingdom and empire and principality and dukedom in Olegaia, coming for you. There is no way in hell you could stand against them.

And once they're finished with you they'll suddenly realize that Eubric is now pretty much up for grabs and start fighting each other for it. After all, who wouldn't want Eubric? It's so placed that anyone who holds it pretty much controls all trade in the Crystaline Sea. And once all that's over, what will be the net result? Undead will be even more despised than they are now, the Free Islands will be a wartorn wreck, and no matter who comes out on top the balance of power will be irrevocably shattered."

"By the by, whose head is that on the table?"
