CaptainToad Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 according to the lego store calendar theres gonna be double vip points in the beginning of October, is this US only or worldwide? Quote
deraven Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Well, up until a few months ago I would have said it's surely worldwide... but with all the price hikes and changes to promotions TLG has been doing, now I couldn't tell you. I get that they need to increase prices (shame they didn't plan ahead and do it more gradually), but also chopping the promotions we've come to expect at the same time is really disappointing. Double VIP points for only the first 4 days (with the "free" holiday set with $99 purchase not starting until the middle of the month) = Quote

CaptainToad Posted August 31, 2015 Author Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) That's a good point. I recall the bonus period for points usually lasts two weeks. Wonder why the change. like Deraven said, Lego seems to need more money and apparently tries out different strategies and probably draws conclusions which promotion was the most effective one. For example if you want to buy the ewok village, I think double points might the better deal, however, if you just want to spend 100$ its probably better to go for the train. I will see what they end up doing in Europe and make a decision in October... maybe I will give both promotions a pass as there arent any sets out there that I would like to purchase and I dont want to make an artificial pab order in order to get a holiday train that may or may not have parts that I might use. too bad, bap orders neither count for vip points nor merchandise... :( Edited August 31, 2015 by CaptainToad Quote
HawkLord Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 This year, I just haven't been into the promos. The only one I've come close on was the Marvel Winter Soldier, but like others have predicted that one is probably coming in a set next year. Otherwise, brick built promos aren't special enough for me to need and I probably have the parts to build most of them. Lego has become so big that they don't need to draw people in as much with free stuff. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 They are so profitable now, that I think they are starting to wean people off of double VIP points. The monthly promo sets now have a much higher purchase threshold than before. In the US, it is sometimes $100 to get the extra freebie. The PAB holiday boxes disappeared last year, and many people who got the invite to enter the store early on Black Friday also felt like the deals and goodies were lackluster compared to previous years. I guess they no longer feel like they have to offer as many promotions to get people to buy Lego. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Double points only lasts 4 days this year? Hmm, I guess I'll be looking elsewhere to ordering things since the promos aren't as enticing. Not that LEGO cares, they already got their money from the other retailers. Quote

Once you reach a certain level you just stop caring little by little - seen it so many times, when you need the clients you go the extra mile, when you feel you are on top of the world you think you're clients need you ;). As for me, I might actually not buy anything in October. I definitely cannot participate in both promotions - and if I had to choose between one of them I would feel I had missed out on something - so if I dont buy anything at all it might make me feel better! :) - and my wallet... Does anyone know how many parts that holiday train consists of ? Edited August 31, 2015 by CaptainToad Quote
talos Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 The timing for this short 2x points offer won't work for me either, I will be away. There really isn't anything I want right now anyway. I think a lot of people are feeling this way... Lego better not be laying in their laurels thinking people will continue to buying just anything. I am being much more discretionary these days, as prices keep on rising. Quote
DarthBrickus Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 (edited) Let's just hope there's a timewindow in those 4 days where S@H actually works. Unlike right now for instance... I want my Wall-E Edited September 1, 2015 by DarthBrickus Quote
Gongoro73 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 So, at last it's October 1st here in Spain right now, but I can't see double vip points yet on S@H. Is it only a matter of time or Europe is out for 2xVIP? Quote

Is it only a matter of time or Europe is out for 2xVIP? Good question... Double points promo is already active at the US S@H (even though it is just past midnight EST), but nothing at the European site :( I hope TLG didn't decide to ignore customers from their home continent... Gongoro73 Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Damn... I have a bad feeling about this... Quote

Vodnik Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Well, US double Vip points will run until October 14th. Ah yes, indeed. The information available earlier was that it will only be from October 1st to 4th, so just four days. It was probably a typo then. Quote

True, didn't see that(thank you!) don't know if it will overlap with the double vip points in Europe like it do in US, maybe it will =P Anyone know the Europe dates for the Holiday Train Promo? I would prefer the orange pieces, but that piece count of the train is nice :) Edited October 1, 2015 by Archidelic Quote

CM4Sci Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Surprise! There are rumors that Double VIP points has been extended to the 31st. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 The window is now open to get both double VIP points and the Holiday Train. The train was added to my cart this morning. Quote
