Bricky Dee Williams Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I wish the Vigo pictures were printed on a tile. There are so many things I wish were printed in this set. Quote
badbob001 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I wish the Vigo pictures were printed on a tile. But that gives me an idea of putting them on tiles instead of directly onto the wall. Quote
BrickFit26 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Both included, one side is the normal version and the other is the ghost/monster version. Cool. I like that they did that. Quote
badbob001 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 You have to remove most of the furniture and you still cant open the doors. -_________-' I wonder if you can push the desk and railing even further back to allow the doors to open. And with the tall ceilings, I might explore putting the other desk on a loft. Quote
Colossus Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Man, I'm all over this set like ectoplasm on Venkman! Truly a stunning build. My Lego points are going to a good cause in January! If this set sells well, maybe we will see some bigger builds like this in the future. Perhaps an X-Mansion? HINT, HINT! Quote
TeufelHund Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Looks great but I'm just not such a Ghostbusters fan that I'd go for this, especially as Walter Peck isn't included! A particular oversight seeing as it seems they included the containment area. Quote
CM4Sci Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Wait, so can you even open the front doors? Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Wait, so can you even open the front doors? I think you can. What Anio is saying is that you cannot open the doors unless you push the Ecto-1 farther in, which means taking out Venkman's office. Quote
Xyver Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 good idea! i have this obi fig http://brickset.com/...n-Kenobi-(75040) he'll probably work well too I think the Obi-Wan head will work better as it has the reddish hair rather than straight brown. Luckily I have a couple of these so I will definitely be making a Walter Peck for my set. Since the doors open inwards, I think I'll just have the car half-in so that it can be seen. Unless you are going to display the set open (which I would assume most people will not) having the car fit fully inside just means you don't get to see it. I think they've done a wonderful job of detailing this build, all the little scenes from each of the movies is great. Obviously printed tiles (at the very least for the sign) would have been better, but considering the price is already out of a lot of people's reach, they obviously decided to try and reduce costs where they could, and printing is probably the easiest way to save. I've got the perfect corner spot for this on my layout, so it will slot straight in. A lot of my builds (including my modulars) are 48x48 anyway, so the extra depth won't affect me. I think the extra depth will work quite well with the rest of the modulars anyway as it would create a large area behind them all to put in an alleyway or delivery area or something. Now I just need scale versions of Mr Stay Puft and the Statue of Liberty. A good idea for a smaller play set would be the roof-top battle against Gozer (as we need her in a mini-fig) or in the museum for GBII to get Janosz and Vigo in minifig. Quote
Jern92 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) Wait, so can you even open the front doors? You can't if the Ecto-1 is inside, because the doors open inwards and the Ecto-1 barely fits as it is Edited November 12, 2015 by Jern92 Quote
dr_spock Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Can the sides of building close with the Ecto-1 inside? Quote
Ed3n Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 For almost $500 au, I expect at least the interior to be fully furnished and tiled floors, the interiors seem lacking compare to Sergio's design. Furthermore issues such as the ecto not being able to fit without removing some furnitures or that the doors cannot be open with the ecto inside are not good enough for the price they are asking. This was on my day 1 buy list, I think it's an easy pass for me now. Lego's price has skyrocketed recently, however they need to justify their price with adequate product. I'm buying creative plastic bricks not gold. Quote

LegoFjotten Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I think it looks great! Minifigs are awesome! I will definitely get this as soon as it's available. Quote
MAB Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I don't mind the stickers one bit; they greatly enhance the build. It's ridiculous to expect Lego to have printed every single image in the set--it's just not cost effective whatsoever--I wish that complaint would die (it never will though, not for any set that uses stickers). Why should that complaint die? This is meant to be an aspirational set, the highest price bracket, one of the best lego can produce. Yet they cannot produce printed parts for it? Consider how many printed parts come in $20 duplo sets, how many printed parts come in $20 Juniors sets. They can do small print runs for SDCC exclusives and their own business card minifigures, but not do printed parts for the top of the range sets? They are using 1970s technology to decorate their sets. Of course people should complain. They managed to wipe out stickered torsos 30 or so years ago (well almost, there are still the odd few produced), so presumably they knew back then that stickers were crap. If people shouldn't complain about stickered parts, why doesn't lego just go back to no printed parts at all? Just let people decorate their sets with stickers. I hope people do complain in the yearly surveys about stickers. There should be the aspiration that lego gets rid of them. Cheap Chinese clones can do it. Megabloks can do it. So why can't lego? Modular Buildings here I come - somehow I must be happy that this set doesn't appeal to me - I can buy 10251 Brick Bank now and maybe even the DO. For me the Modular Buildings are a step over this set - another plus is how they can be opened, I wonder what is so difficult to use the same technice with sets like this? Sergio's version of the Firehouse HQ is sooo great, I wish they released that version instead - this one is a simple letdown, again I'm speaking of me! Sergio's one opens in an even simpler way, essentially just a single hinged side. Lego's way of doing it gives the appearance of more play space. Quote
ER0L Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) The Ecto-1 can fit in the building. Hum hum... You have to remove most of the furniture and you still cant open the doors. -_________-' This is no surprise regarding the fact that the Ecto-1 is far from being minifig scale. However, while I'm not quite satisfied with the exterior (as said some proportions don't match the original building in my opinion) I quite like the interior. Edited November 12, 2015 by ER0L Quote
JamPotStudios Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) Price £274.99 http://shop.lego.com...equestid=628252 That's better. I still probably won't be able to afford this, unless I get another spike in YouTube activity (though what I'm really looking for is somewhere that's still selling the BttF set for £50 or under now that it's been discontinued, I'll porbably be better off trying to get the two Dimensions sets and then making my own Delorean). LegoSjaak Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I'm happy to see that it does not meet my expectations, so, for me, it is easy to pass on this. I'd rather buy multiples of the Brick Bank to make one large XL Brick Bank of it.. There is also no reason for me to MOD this GB HQ into a modular suitable building... Maybe till next time in this forum.. i'll go back to my Town-corner now.. Happy wait and have fun with the GB HQ to all the others who do want it! Quote
peter_m Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Locker doors - I hope that those are not brown rectangle stickers on transparent parts... Also building a wall between bedroom and bathroom will be a day 1 mod. Quote

There seems to be a few reddish brown doors on the upper floors so I'm guessing the locker doors will be stickers on reddish brown doors. Dan-147 Edited November 12, 2015 by Dan-147 Quote

Furthermore issues such as the ecto not being able to fit without removing some furnitures or that the doors cannot be open with the ecto inside are not good enough for the price they are asking. Sergio's final design does have 1000 more pieces to add all those extra details. And even his doors could not be opened with the car inside (unless you clear out the entire first floor, just like the official set). There appears to be an awful lot of stickers in this set. I hope that sticker sheet is not free-floating inside the box... Sergio's one opens in an even simpler way, essentially just a single hinged side. Lego's way of doing it gives the appearance of more play space. In Sergio's design, you have to slide out the bathroom to access the bedroom. His design has a lot of details, but too packed and cramp for playing. Also building a wall between bedroom and bathroom will be a day 1 mod. Not sure how would do you it without blocking your view to the bedroom or the bathroom. Unless you made the wall removable/sliding. Quote
x105Black Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 * There are many Vigo paintings throughout so sorry to those who refused to see it when me and several other people made it our business to point it out and you still had doubts. Photographs, but yes, there are indeed. And by the looks of him in those photos, I'd be really happy with the Vigo minifigure, should they release one. Quote
8BrickMario Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Called it, just got the colour wrong, white would've looked better Although it would appear it was originally blonde... wonder what the final colour will be? White would have been a bit better, but I'd have preferred lavender for both versions . The bedroom picture's lighting makes it look different, but it's still grey. Quote
