He emphasized the word "divided" twice, so I'm calling it now: it's gotta be a half sphere. From one direction it'll look like the exterior, and you can turn it around to access the interior -- kind of like Orthanc.

Half of me thinks you're drastically overthinking this, but the other half says you're genius. That would be a pretty bad pun, though. Truthfully, I think a hemisphere Death Star a la Orthanc would be great - just think how annoying it would be to keep on opening panels everywhere to access rooms if it was a complete sphere. A hemisphere would avoid that problem but still look really cool. The only problems are that the rooms would need to be much more shallow in order to fit in your hand, and a hemisphere doesn't balance well on its side (though I suppose it could have a large stand or base).

I fully agree.

Most people seem to want something like the 10188 but bigger, more detailed, and with an exterior. Frankly, that's just not going to happen -- that'd be a $1000 set. So TLG split the sphere. Hardcore fans can simply buy two. This is all just a prediction, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me.

That does make sense though. I guess I interpreted it the wrong way ;-)

I fully agree.

I could be totally wrong, but having read CapnRex101's comments, it could be a hybrid of 10143 and 10188. One half could include a series of rooms similar to 10188 whilst the other could be either the incomplete 'frame' area of 10143, or alternatively a full outer shell. That could work really well, and might account for his slightly cryptic comments.

What I've heard also it's kind of the same, just updated to make it look more realistic, and the same goes with the figures, can't remember exactly how many figures it supposed to be, but the ones I've seen looks cool. Me personally, I don't mind a similar set up, but better looking since I don't have the old one (have some resentment at pre 2010 sw sets in general)

I think it's going to be in the same style as 10188, just more detailed with modern building techniques (in that case I don't need it as the 10188, while not using the most modern pieces, looks as accurate as it can be room-wise). I'm hoping it'll be a fully enclosed version with rooms though, it would be different enough for me to buy it. At a 500 dollar price point I think it's still possible. It'll just have a smaller diameter and three floors instead of three-and-a-half. That way there's still plenty of budget left for outer panels and the necessary detailing on the inside.

If we're going with this hemisphere idea, I think it'll look like the 10143 on the outside, with one half being the incomplete one and the other being the fully constructed one. The latter would then be able to open up like the version I mentioned above.

If it is they can't have all the rooms from 10188 in it (unless they'd use way more bricks) I think.

You know what's the best thing about this release?

There are a lot of scalpers who ask megabucks for a 10188. I hope that because of this new version there will be less demand for 10188

I would be fine with a half-sphere Death Star that looks accurate from the front... there's one problem. How would a 5000-piece LEGO model in that shape hold itself up?! I think, personally, that something that opens a la the Kwik-E-Mart is much more likely. Looks like the whole thing, stands up without additional support, and still has a fully accessible interior! The hinges might be a bit of an issue, though.

Just waiting to see the new divided Death Star before I order now my 10188, I hate LEGO, lately they give us only divided and incomplete things... and I thought Insult on Hoth was an insult, let's wait for this one....

Half a sphere, more pieces, and $500?

Yeah, I don't think so...

Are you surprised? LEGO lately use many small pieces(for better details of course), but they also increase the price.I guess the weight of the pieces of the new Death Star won't exceed the older's one.

It's still going to be a good set by itself, he said "divided" and it could mean that you can open the set by dividing it, or it means - what most of us think - It'll be just a divided Death Star with better and more detailed exterior(I guess they'll choose the better side of the Death Star of course), it could be even higher. But all we want is a ball-like shaped Death Star, I mean - the real thing...

I would only forgive them if they give us the other side in like 2-4 years =].

Or divided could mean that some people will like the set and a lot of people won't like the set. Hence "divided"

I think all of you are reading too much into this.

Agree.

You just have to see how Lego does new versions of older sets (remind the 2014 UCS X-Wing). It will be really close to the 10188.

Probably, that's why CapnRex101 is talking about "divided" opinions, because it's just the same set. There was divided opinions with the X-Wing, the people who doesn't bought the 2001 version and the people who did.

Capt Rex has also said this:

"Yes I would certainly buy the set on day one, although I hope to be sent it so I can review it for Brickset prior to its release.

I would not recommend reading too much into my comments as some Eurobricks members are. I won't say any more for fear of influencing people's opinions prior to the set's reveal."

Earlier on I was thinking it could be a sphere that hinges open to reveal an inside, but I'm not sure how stable this would be once it's open. I will wait patiently.

I saw that discusion in the brickset thread.

Instead of hinges, that could be done with this brick: http://brickset.com/parts/4525904

You can put them independently of the angle of the sphere.

Picture of the back of the box of the Frigate. Only one truly new picture to be seen amongst the features. Still no good look at the cockpit. It does surprisingly little for such an expensive set…

Too bad I'm constantly complaining and such. I wish it was different, since I joined EB not too long ago. I guess I never hated my own hobby this much before.

Agreed.

A sphere with hinges would be ridiculous since there is only one point in the sphere where these could be placed, the centre. There would be no hinge support at the bottom or the top and it would be an even worse disaster than the ghostbusters' firehouse.

A sphere that opens up sounds silly though, when it's opened up all the way won't it just topple over?

However if there is an outer shell on it I personally think it would look better with dark bley and light bley to get the detail on it rather than just a solid light bley. This would also mean that the interior walls wouldn't have to be light bley like 10188 where it was used to make it recognisable.

You have my thanks

Aaaah come on.! Seeing the technic pieces at the sides of the cockpit makes me think that there won't be that much going on at the front too. Would be awesome to get a real cockpit for 2-3 figures or at least enough space for that!

& what did they mean now with "wrench assembly? On the box it seams that there's nothing on the rear of the ship.

seems like another set + figures I'll have to upgrate. Like a lot.

Does the lateness of the DS mean that the snowspeeder is being pushed back to 2017? Other than the initial talk when it showed up on bset I haven't heard much of anything on it.

Yes it's been pushed back to 2017
