grum64 Posted August 23, 2024 Author Posted August 23, 2024 Build Day 31, 32, 33 & 34 / Building Time - 15hrs / Total Building Time - 138hrs You’ll be mighty pleased to hear this isn’t my usual photo heavy, rambling post. It’s more a micro post, if you will. Few photos, minimal(ish) rambling. I can hear the cheers . As you’ll see below, progress and I use the word in its loosest sense, has been to just put the track links together, 58 per side, and fit each to the build. At this point I'm guessing that your gaze has just returned from re-reading the top line of this post - 4 build days and 15hrs building time. Yes, it’s taken me that long to assemble 116 links into 2 lengths of track and fit each to the build. The word you’re looking for is glacial. I’ve only got the blade left to assemble & fit but, looking through the instructions, there’s a lot to it so there's no telling how long it’s going to take hence posting this now. Quote
1gor Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 Crap, the way you present this build, you are constantly tempting me to build "my" version (probably smaller D9 with used - dark bluish gray tracks). Great to see you keep building Clive. Quote
Rebel_Lego Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 I can't be the only one who loves the long updates, can I? Anyway, keep building (and posting) Quote
Mikdun Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 I will be glad to read some more "rambling" too. Quote

grum64 Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 (edited) Build Days 36 - 97 / Building Time - 145hrs / Total Building Days 97 / Total Building Time - 361hr Hello My Friends Apologies for this being somewhat delayed Long story kept short. A week into the new year I was paid a visit by a virus, RSV that decided my body was its idea of paradise and took up residence. This caused a whole world of chaos but, despite the microscopic little buggers’ best efforts, I’m still here, I’m back at home & I’m now building all thanks to the even better efforts of a great many amazing people. My pace may have slowed considerably (no, I didn’t think that was possible either 😴) but no one ever said building Lego was a race and if they did I wasn't listening. Anyways, I'm at my table and sitting in front of me is the newly finished 42131 - the mighty CAT D11 and I have to say it looks very impressive. Yes, I can see why some might think it's ugly but I prefer to think of it as looking purposeful. Before I embarked on this ridiculously long odyssey, I started building on 21st June 2023, I thought I’d got a pretty good idea of how big the finished model was going to be, a bit bigger than the 8275. Boy was I wrong. It dwarfs it in every dimension and it’s really got some real heft to it. It’s got a presence all its own. This has been one of the most enjoyable sets I can remember building. I love that it's modular in much the same way as a real D11 is assembled on site and disassembled for transportation to another. Even when things became harder because of the complexities & size of the build it was never anything but fun. So much so I’d very happily build it again I’ve built many sets over the years but only a few of them I call special and all for different reasons. The 8258 was my very first Technic build. The Ultimate 42009 was my most complex build. The 8880 was by far the hardest. I can now add the 42131. It was the most fun Now all I've got to do is find somewhere to put it. Maaboo the Witch Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Hooray, you made it! A great saga comes to a close. Now for the legend of Putting It Somewhere. Quote
1980SomethingSpaceGuy Posted March 13 Posted March 13 The model and the journey are equally impressive! Great job, Clive! Quote
WvG_853 Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Thanks for sharing your journey and the great pictures! I was away for a few years, but I am really happy to see you continue building steadily. I am subscribed to this thread and look forward to your future endeavours … Quote

Hooray indeed. I still can’t quite believe it's come to an end. My shed has been in need of a really good sort for a long while and I think the CAT's the catalyst I need to make a start. Maybe. 3 hours ago, 1980SomethingSpaceGuy said: The model and the journey are equally impressive! Great job, Clive! My next endeavour will be either a sort out of my shed or building the 42177 G500. Hmmmm.... Quote
1gor Posted March 13 Posted March 13 It looks very nice on your photos. Now ypu need truck and trailer for it... It is very nice to see you finnish it, but more important that you recover from respiratory virus. Wellcome back Clive. Quote
Zerobricks Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I was getting worried about you, so glad you recovered and finished the model! Thank you for the detailed journey, as a person who does not have this set, ir eally enjoyed it and feel tempted in building my own dozer or a construction machine. Can't wait to see you build the 42077, it's one of my faves at the moment. Quote
Jundis Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Nice to see you recovered and heartfully hope you are doing well! Reading your describtion of the finished set, the dozer seem to be a very similar beast to the 42100 and very Kossmann like in all its glory. Looking forward seeing you start your next model :-) Quote

Thank you for your kind words my Friend I'd really like to build a truck & trailer but alas I've not got the talent. Besides, I've hardly got the space to keep the CAT let alone a model of the size the truck & trailer would need to be. If you can get one at a good price I highly recommend you take the plunge. Having said that I'd love to see what you come up with were you to build your own 'bully' (and just how many Buwizz units you can cram into it 😃) On 3/13/2025 at 9:43 PM, Jundis said: Nice to see you recovered and heartfully hope you are doing well! An amazing Liebherr 776 comes to mind but I can't remember who the builder was. I'm hoping to build the G500 next. I'm really looking forward to it. Quote
BusterHaus Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Glad you've beat the latest health setback, and I'm very happy for you for finishing the CAT. It was a very ambitious project, it looks massive. Enjoy the next build! Quote

Maybe it was ambitious but I had such a great time building it I find myself kind of missing it. I’m now on the look out for a 10294 Titanic at a decent price. It may not be Technic so strictly speaking not for these pages but it has some Technic parts 🤔 so I'm hoping that's enough. In the meantime it's the G500 which I'm looking forward to starting very soon 🙂. Quote
1gor Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Since you have a bit of problem where to put CAT, where will you put (on display) Titanic? At the bottom of artificial lake? Just wondering since I also have lack of space, so I'll swich to smaller scale models (most likelly) Quote
steph77 Posted March 15 Posted March 15 (edited) Happy to see you back here Clive. Really. Cheers. S. Edited March 15 by steph77 Quote

Should there still not be enough room for the Titanic (if I can get one) we do have a large pond 🚢 15 hours ago, steph77 said: Happy to see you back here Clive. Really. Cheers. S.
