Comrade Commander Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 As the party deals with the dock master, Darksten finally finds what he is looking for. Turning his back so no one can see, he pulls out the small object and thinks hard about the missing Orc Darksten uses magic compass Quote

"This book is the shipping logs, and they're not anyone's business but *huk* mine. And the Bonapartes are in charge of these docks, *huk* not the City Watch." "Yes," said Throlar in a diplomatic tone, "We are well aware of that. But this orc we're looking for is a friend of ours and we're very worried about her, so we may be acting a little irrationally. I apologize for that. Now we know that the Bonapartes don't allow slavers to use this harbor, but perhaps there are slave smugglers? In that case the Bonapartes would be very grateful to us, and you, for helping to catch them. Now why don't you just let us have a look through those logs, with your guidance of corse. Cedric, would you be so kind as to give our friend a Mulled Wine to take the edge off his headache?" 6 hours ago, wiz said: "Or we could knock him out," Cedric mumbles. "In which case," he said in a near whisper, "We will have an enemy for life, whereas if we are nice to him now he may be more willing to help us in future. You have to think in the long term. And anyway, this is a Bonaparte building on Bonaparte turf, and I am not going to piss of one of the houses unless I absolutely have to, now give him the damn wine!" Quote
Zepher Posted October 2, 2016 Author Posted October 2, 2016 The Dockmaster takes the mulled wine and after a moment of reticence drinks a healthy portion of it. He smacks his lips together. "Much better," he says sleepily as he passes the book over to Throlar and Cedric. They both feel more experienced for having dealt with the dock master in a friendly manner. The two are able to pour over the book and discern that there is only one non-Bonaparte ship departing from the port in the upcoming week. Darkstan's compass, meanwhile, swings to a specific boat, and it probably wouldn't be too surprising if that was where the heroes were headed. "It seems we are almost done." Quote
Duvors Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 "Thank you for your help sir, it was much appreciated." Throlar turned to his companions. "Well," He said, "Our work here is done, to the ship!" Quote
Comrade Commander Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 "Indeed, let's go" Darksten says, while letting the compass guide them Quote
Zepher Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 OoC: Still stupidly behind on photography for this quest. Pictures will come in the next two days. The heroes make their way down to the shipping yards and follow Darkstan's compass to a ship called The Bounty - the ship name corresponding with the one in the Dock master's log. There can be no doubt that this is their ship. Solimon begins to walk a gangplank, but a rough voice calls out to them. "Can I help you?" asks the Captain, approaching. "We'll need to search your ship. We believe you have a friend of our's aboard." "Not going to happen. My passengers pay for their privacy, and for the privacy of their supplies too. Only people licensed to check ships are Bonapartes. You a Bonaparte?" What will the heroes do? Quote
Comrade Commander Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 "Tell me Captain, how much does one pay to be a passenger on this fine ship of yours?" Quote
Duvors Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 "I am the Titaanian ambassador, is that good enough for you?" Quote
Zepher Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 OoC: Pictures should come tomorrow. The Captain scrutinizes Throlar. "Bon-a-parte," he says slowly. "Not Titaanian Ambassador. Bonapartes." Turning to Darkstan: "It's 800 gold for a cabin aboard the ship. They're sizable, good for a traveling group or for storage with a few guards. But I'm all booked up for this trip. Now, unless you've got something else to say, I suggest you beat it." "What's going on here?" asks a Captain as he approaches. His dog barks merrily at the party. Quote

Matthias wonders if he should just let Wineghilm continue to do the talking, since the dwarf had done so well with the dockmaster, but senses that the ambassador card had not played well. "Our organization is well-known to the Bonapartes; perhaps they would not be pleased to find slavers operating out of their harbor," he says evenly, addressing both captains. Matthais' compass agrees with Darkstan regarding Medusa's location, and points back towards shore and then towards sea and then a few other directions in regards to the slavers that bought her. It goes limp at the suggestion of an ambush, spinning lazily in circles. To a optimistic mind this may mean there is no danger, to a paranoid one, that danger is everywhere. He turns it and the door opens. The heroes spill in. Tied up in the corner is Medusa, her arms handcuffed and nailed to the wall. She glances up, exhausted, weary, and a brief look of relief crosses her face before it turns to panic. "What are you doing here?" she demands. "You shouldn't have come, Parvati!" The heroes turn when they hear the rough sound of boots on the deck. A man walks in - a strange man wearing a loose fitting wig and a mustache that wilts suspiciously. He carries a gun with him, and is followed by a crew of pirates. One of whom the heroes recognize. "So you found your friend, then?" asks Wermhiem with a sneer. "Don't matter." "What is the meaning of this?" asks the man with the ill-fitting wig. "I was under the impression we were paying for our privacy." "Slaving is illegal." "Don't see how that changes anything. But oh well." The Slaver slides a dagger into the Captain's stomach so swiftly the heroes barely catch sight of it before the Captain is on the floor passing out. The Slaver turns to the heroes. "Not often that our product waltzes aboard for us. The Orc will fetch good prices, though without her hands not quite as much, and I'm sure the winged creature will do well in some freak show." He addresses his crew. "Take the freaks, kill the rest." Nets fly across the room, entangling Parvati and Solimon. The rest of the crew spills forward and charges the heroes. Mob A (Matthias' cannon will do quadruple damage to Wermheim, A, and B in this position) Barkley: Bite v. Captain > Cedric: Untie v. Soliman > Johnny Everyman: Untie v. Soliman (Soliman is first priority to untie since he has high health to tank the Captain) > Soliman: Untie v. self (He'll be free at this point and ready to join next round) > Parvati: Untie v. self (2 actions until untied) > Medusa: Untie v. self (4 actions until untied) Edited October 6, 2016 by StickFig typical Zeph, changing his mind on mechanics :poke: Quote
Zepher Posted October 6, 2016 Author Posted October 6, 2016 OoC: Both Johnny and Barkley don't count as combatants in the traditional sense, since they don't have health and can't take damage. They should not be treated as if they will absorb hits or like they can "target opponents" (though Barkley can). Mechanically, they are essentially items that you can use without spending an action.
