[COR-FB] Captured War Galley "Carnage"

Some time ago, Corlander escorts took prize a mid-sized war galley during a heated action with privateers. The galley was heavily damaged during the encounter, which, paired with its unconventional construction, meant considerable delay in outfitting and manning her for service with the Royal Navy.

Armed with a single 32 pounder cannon mounted in the bow, she can pierce any warship of the Brick Seas. The nine oars per side ensures unequalled tactical mobility, especially when other ships are becalmed, and enables her to bring that single massive cannon to good use. The large crew at the oars doubles as marines in a boarding action, making her a very effective close-encounter machine-of-war.

Her lateen rig ensures good performance under sail, allowing her to keep up with the slower convoys as escort.

Mainly an experiment with building a hull for a galley. A few hinge plates later, and I was pretty happy with the result. I am reasonably happy with the oars and upper hull too, but might one day give a larger galley a try, with a more elaborate superstructure and rig. It represents the 3A Carnage taken by Corlander escorts some time back.

Neat! We don’t see a lot of these. She came out pretty nice, especially for an experiment. I like your solution for the sweeps, but perhaps cones at the transition instead?

Quite a rarity indeed. Very elegant construction. Especially bow and rigging are impressively made. Looks very serious, like a proper warship. Good work!

This looked like an interesting project Bregir.  The pallette is well chosen and the hull is nicely shaped. I wouldn't want to be in it facing high rolling waves mind you.  My eyes keep getting drawn to your lanteen sail rig though; that must of taken a bit of pondering to figure out.

And the oars look perfect.  The substitution with spears at the far side was both reasonable (not sure I have 9 oars in my collection) and gives a sense of them being dipped.

A very nice and not very often used type of ship here, Bregir, the shaping is quite neat (and what exactly are those brown knob pieces [as eyes?] in the bow?), and the rig looks great as well!   Excellent posing too, especially with the captain up front!  And, somebody has a lot of those pillars!

Neat - you finished her! Looking decent, although I'm not the biggest fan of those quarter round plates at the bow, but then, she's an experiment. Now, build a larger one!

Just one thing: after half the journey I'd have your crew change sides - they are only rowing with one hand
