Sir Stig Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 (edited) The third wave of soldiers were approaching shore, to keep up the pressure against the Mardier threat. The defenses were set up good, even the nature seemed to work against us. Only a small clearing amid thorns and cliffs offered any offensive action. The commotion on the beach filled up the pauses between cries for help and blasts from the cannons. Oh no! One of the fallen ones was the famed Henri La Brickwall, the famed commander that had become a symbol of justice and retribution throughout his lifetime. Which now had come to a sudden halt. Spoiler Artistic lisense based on: http://media.gettyimages.com/photos/death-of-marshall-turenne-henri-de-la-tour-dauvergne-vicomte-de-one-picture-id463915175 Few seemed to notice the pale rider. The ones that did never lived to tell the tale. Spoiler Artistic licence based on: But nothing could break the Eslandolan spirit. Not even spirits. One Eslandolan Marine made his way through murky waters to flank the sniggering Mardierianers. Overview: For Eslandola! Professor Thaum Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 The pale rider is a great idea... It emphasizes the heroical death... Quote
Kolonialbeamter Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Very cool build, good Sir. I'm a big fan of that little creek and your water depiction. And the (two!) artistic scenes are top!! The pic with the rider is especially appealing - creepy shadow effects. Keep it up, Sir! Quote
Capt Wolf Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Wonderful job adapting that painting. Well done! And the pale rider is an excellent addition. It really enhances the epic nature of the fallen hero. From a technical standpoint, I like the SNOT technique for the water, and the contours of the beach are particularly well done, I also like the soldier in the murky water, and I must echo KB's comments on the excellent creek. Great job overall! Quote
blackdeathgr Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Excellent work on both paintings and I so love this idea of yours. On the build side, I also like the water technique, the bush-y tree and the small cannon emplacement. Also when I got the zombie pirate minifig, I was struggling to think some ways to use that torso of his for a "regular" minifig. You made it so easy with your use of it in this MOC! Quote
Tezclatipoca Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Good job ! I. Am happy to see that I am not alone using Historical references ! Great ! Quote

I forgot to mention he was hit by a cannonball. I hope the pale rider will go into the mythic folklore of BoBs, free to be used by others in their builds. Great job overall! The creek came naturally as I tried to make sense of the shoreline, and was quite happy with the result myself. The reflection in the creek on the pale rider picture was also luck. I thought about changing the white underneath with tan, but it was at a late stage and the SNOT made it to much work. I will try variations on the theme later on. It worked out better than expected, since the angle and position was different than the painting. Yeah, I like all "weathered" torsoes on the battlefield and action shots in general. A dark red leg messed up the pattern, but since the left leg was brown it made into a smooth transition that looks like mud. 21 hours ago, Faladrin said: Good job ! I. The timeframe fitted very good, and I like to learn some history along the way. I love to see others historical references, and see how they get translated into brick. I also steal borrow a lot from literature, and mix parts of lyrics into my sentences (to make my english sound more fluent). Quote

Captain Braunsfeld Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Nice approach to waves! .. and the hero's name is fine, of course Quote
Bregir Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Fabulous snot water (although it looks very calm and probably wouldn't work for a worked up sea) and great landscaping. I like the alternating colours of the sea, the little stream, the rolling beach, and the rockwork. This is, compared to most of the other builds, a very tranquil scene, which serves to put the (well-posed!) death scene in focus. Overall, great build! My suggestion would be to work a bit on the lighting of your pics, as you seem to struggle a bit with shadows. :) Quote

I promise the lighting will get better now that daylight have returned (for a while at least, until maybe september). ;) Quote
