Latest news about Lego animal moulds

Why so sad about low number of new animals this year?  Lego is completely unpredictable and we will have some decent surprises next year or later. I say, we should enjoy our drought! 

We  got some new dinosaurs, such as Titanosuarus, Spinosaurus and Aquileratops. I think we got a fantasy creature,, such as Cereberus and unicorn. We got Arctic fox,  gray goat, pigeon, wolf, bird (from Series 27). Am I missing some new animals this year?

all of them are are creatures, no matter if they are prehistoric, fantasy or extant.  And. I’m just optimistic….

Yeah, i can see a red fox in a battle pack but i will keep my hope low.

I just found out the fox cost 2,5 euro in Legoland Germany, the same price it would probably have on PAB if someone at Lego did not try to force us to buy the set they came in 
I have still hope for BAM if not maybe a trip to Germany is in order

Which explains the German Bricklink shops who have hundreds of them.

According to lego_minecraft_goat, Series 29 is coming in May. Looks to be a regular series, so hopefully we can look forward to some new animals!

If nothing else, we’re vastly overdue with getting the raven in black with natural looking printing for the eyes. There are plenty of options that would pair well with one as an accessory after all.

If it's a normal series it would be shocking if it do not have any new animals yes (about time after 3 duds)

A crow/raven knight would be my first choice, but the most important is to get the raven of course  

Another place I saw a user speculate the fox was dual moulded and made for a red fox, but the arctic fox in all white hit the shelf first. Will be interesting to see maybe we get one already in January if we are lucky

I hope we will see a red fox in Series 29 but i need to keep my hope low! I agree with Accio Lego on raven mold. 

I keep wishing for a sabered-tooth tiger cub lol.

Like none of us have the fox in hand to know for sure, unless we cashed in one of our Faberge eggs.

Oter than raven and fox, I kinda wish to see a beaver, swan, big frog (not standard boring flog piece), kangaroo, deer fawn, unicorn foal, saber-toothed tiger cub, armadillo, black bear cub,  phoenix (not the Fawkes mold), emperor penguin, peacock (?) to show up in Series 29 and beyond.

I year ya! But I feel like i am not putting my money on both raven and fox molds.  I know Lego is very unpredictable so I make a list of random animals for Series 29 and beyond.  It’s mostly like for  Lego to introduce us one recolored and one  or two new animals.

Yes, we’ll get 2 at the very most, unless Lego decide to finally reward us for this 220 page thread and give us a proper all animal series, which I can’t see happening especially straight after the costume series. They won’t include the missing African Iconic 4 though as they are too big. I’m thinking the next most likely new CMF animals would be a beaver as this could be linked to a lumberjack/lumber hill or Canadian Mountie or a meerkat just because they are popular. I’d most like a swan though as this would work so well in the Lego City (my dream is an affordable canal boat set with swans and no big ugly helicopter or similar included).

It’s actually really surprising how few ‘city’ animals we have. Squirrels are not that old, pigeons brand new, and we have rats.

@lifeinplastic, if Lego doesn’t give us a white swan, i guess they will face sometime insisiter - a black swan…   And I agree with you on African animals. And we need meekly, warthog, wild dog, zebra foal for CMF series.

Hmm, they didn’t appear ever in any sets, just the one CMF. So do they count? Have you seen how expensive and rare they are on the after sales market? Almost half an Arctic fox!

I can not remember if I had it in hand at SFW, if so did not look to closely at it or it may be it was one of the parts that got stolen(!), I was most interest in the pigeon (that was apparently the part most people was interested in according to the PAB-team  ). I see the pigeon is double moulded, but how easy is there to see if a mould is that if it only got the same color? The lipstick apparently is a double mould that also has been made in only one color, but I do not have a lot of those at hand

Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures, I'm still trying to wake up. I also couldn't figure out how to attach images larger than 25 kb 😑

There's only one barely visible line on the back of the head that might suggest it's a dual mold... but I don't know much about molds so I'll leave that to you guys. Let me know if you want more pictures from other sides.

And no, I didn't cash in my Faberge egg. It was half the price of PaB in the BL store I got it from :P

Which is still about four times as much as it should retail for. 

I don’t think it’s dual moulded. One piece that has been produced as both dual moulded and then ‘one colour’ is the Friends penguin, which turned up as an ice sculpture in a Lunar New Year set. That was pretty obvious in having a join in the moulds, even when supposed to be one colour, IIRC

I do not know much about moulding theory or if it makes most sense to use more colors or print for a fox, however it is very unlikely Lego have made a arctic fox and did not plan to make a red fox of the mould. The new management in City have even said they prefer to make moulds they can use several times, like the dog with the vest they made 4 versions of..

Indeed, but a red fox *could* be done with simply one orange(ish) coloured mould and some face printing - especially given the size of it. Whilst dual moulding might be nice for the white/orange colours, just imagine how expensive and complicated that mould would be!

… what’s that you say? Less complicated than a red panda or a toucan which have come in cheap retail sets & CMF respectively? Well, yes, but they’re already telling us the white fox is somehow very complex and expensive so they have to keep going with that schtick…

As an aside - though I have limited use for the dogs-with-vests per se, I have to say that was an excellent mould & splendid pupper. The Golden one with the Christmas jumper is especially great.
