gedren_y Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 (edited) Weelond, An Holli November 3, 617 The decision had been made. Commodore Hammish Grei, Lady Valentia Cantoni, and Viscount Alexander Doblin made their plans to run as a delegation for the Independents' seats on the Colonial Council. Politics, though, requires popular support. They decided to start in northwestern Weelond, not far from the riverside docks. The trio took to the footpaths, singing the Eslandola national anthem, while their supporters positioned themselves at the planned end of their march. The paved section of the footpath ends at a grassy park, with a mineral spring fed fountain, behind the Crosswinds Trading Post, adjacent to The Treasure Map tavern & inn. A fortuitous stack of empty crates provides the perfect platform to make their pitch. "Good afternoon, Weelond!" Hammish began, "I am Commodore Hammish Grei, to my right is Lady Valentia Cantoni, and to my left is Viscount Alexander Doblin. If you would do us the honor, we would like stand as representatives for the independent shippers and sailors of Eslandola in your Colonial Council." This quickly garnered the attention of those nearby. "For too long," Valentia took up the diatribe, "The trade companies have held considerable sway in our government. Even after the changes that we have made to it to control our own destinies, the trade companies still hold many of the reigns of power. It is time that those who do not belong to those institutions have their seats filled. We humbly ask that you choose us to be your voice." "I have seen much change in my lifetime," Alexander continued seamlessly, "I rejoiced when our people stood up to the Crown, and did my best to bolster the spirits of the young and strong when they were called to war with Mardier. I have staked my personal fortune backing independent shippers, most notably the late Daffyd 'Splattersquawk' Prows, may he rest in peace. I offer myself as a voice of experience, and measured calm in these uncertain times. Thank you for your attention." It looks like Tolan duBroise, the current captain of the Island Rose, has just nearly missed the speech. A local resident and a far traveler look on with interest. A pair of sailors, recently stranded in Weelond because of their over-indulgence at the Oktoberfest celebration, make grumbling noises about 'bosses' in general. Dearji the Windsong and Kali the Phlin stroll on over to offer the blessings of the Triuri to all in attendance. Beneath a rare songbird native to An Holli, Camilla Isobel la Reiy watches the goings on with some interest. She has long been a dissenter among the Royal Family, but she isn't sure that her support would be helpful at the moment. And here's another elusive face. Her wardrobe has advanced considerably, but that is the Oleon lady captain that attended the Day of Blood Ceremony in Stedor last year. It looks like the Guarda de Noblessa have begun hiring out their services outside of the Port of Terreli. Jeorge Ziti is enjoying his current posting. Solas Midori is away from his observatory to offer his favorite assistant his support in her political endeavor. It is a good thing that Jeorge enjoys reading the Midori Almanac, or he wouldn't have such a prime vantage point. This fellow kept to the shadows, with his hood pulled close. His posture proves he is attentive as the others, but whether he approves, or not, cannot be discerned at this time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some shots of the build empty of figs.Empty 01Empty 02Empty 03Empty 04Empty 05 --------------------------------------------------------- I hope to add more campaign stops before the end of the year. blackdeathgr Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Hmmmm... something is stirring in the cauldron... strange times...strange times indeed... Building-wise, this is a solid build and I quite like the minifig choices of yours and how you captured nearly everybody in separate shots Quote
Capt Wolf Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Ach! A rabble-rouser in the MCTC company town of Weelond! A good campaign build, with an interesting assortment of characters, and the message is of course spot on for an independent candidate. Good luck! Of course, if no one else runs for the independent seat, you won't need any luck. Quote
Mesabi Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 To the Citizens of Weelond As a fundamental seller of goods on the Brick Seas, the Wayfarer Trading Company encourages all citizens of Weelond to vote AGAINST these rabble rousers, as they will damage the balance of power for the Trade Companies of the Brick Seas. Additionally, we ask that these raggamuffins be rounded up and tried for Treason against the great state of Eslandola. We hope to aspire to the age where corporations control all of the Brick Seas. Not only in Eslandola, but also in Corrington, and Oleon. Only then, will we enter an age of science, reason and wonder. I like the how building looks. I do have to criticize the photo quality though. Keep up the good work though Quote
gedren_y Posted December 31, 2017 Author Posted December 31, 2017 (edited) The second build is taking longer than expected. It won't be done and photographed until probably the second of the year. Timeline-wise it will still be set in November. On 12/25/2017 at 7:19 AM, blackdeathgr said: Hmmmm... something is stirring in the cauldron... strange times...strange times indeed... I lost the cloud cover about halfway through shooting, so some of the pics have too much glare. Edited January 5, 2018 by gedren_y Quote
gedren_y Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) [The events depicted here happened before Governor Guilder announced his further political intentions, and before outside agitators spurred on a minor riot. ] Weelond, An Holli November 10, 617 Located in what was once an early limestone quarry, the restaurant known as The Dragon's Maw was chosen for an information sharing event. Commodore Hammish Grei had been authorized to make available a considerable portion of the Crahaish neh Triuri's Nautical Maps Archive. Governor Guilder, in his capacity as a member of the Colonial Council, was invited examine the materials offered. With him is Conan Hoffer, the man who advises Guilder on matters of public perception (especially with the dockside crowd). They are late to this because Conan advised the Governor that he should wear his fancy peg-leg, which meant that their leaving coincided with most workers returning home, which in turn necessitated many glad-handing stops. "Why are we going to this again?" Guilder groaned, "And why did it have to be at this horrid place?" "This place gives me the creeps, too," Conan tried to mollify his boss, "But your attendance will show that you can put the interests of the people above the interest of your trade company. That will be important once you make your announcement." When they came to the stairs, Guilder glared (not for the first time) at his companion and growled, "You had to insist on the fancy peg-leg!" "Oh, I didn't realize they'd be so steep," Conan admitted sheepishly. "If you ever have me wear this thing when I have to climb stairs again, I will have it melted down," Guilder threatened. "Just think of the gain." Conan encouraged, "The maps this fellow is supposed to have . . . . I'm told they show . . . . uh, things." It took a humiliatingly long time to make their ascent. Once at the table the Governor was able to rest his weight against the border wall, freeing up his walking stick for other uses. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tolan duBroise had listened to Hammish practice all the things he was going to say for the last few days, so he decided to just lounge with Solas and the ladies. "These here," Hammish began, "Are just a portion of what I was able to bring aboard the Stormbringer II on the most recent trade run. In less than a week we'll be sailing to Terreli, where I'll be able acquire the rest of the maps." "This here looks like Celestia," one of the other attendees remarked, "How old is this map, and what are these marks?" "It is indeed the island we know today as Celestia," Hammish replied, "This map is over 250 years old, and the writing is Cymgrii script. Most of the maps are of places you might not be familiar with, but for demonstration purposes I chose one that you might be able to compare to modern maps. The symbology is a bit different as well." "So how are we supposed to make use of them?" another attendee asked. "Solas has arranged for two large printing presses, and several printmakers, to produce modern copies, along with a smaller press for our political pamphlets," Hammish explained, "We have them set up in the local library. Dearji the Windsong, here with us this afternoon, and Kali the Phlin are willing to do the translations of the script." Hammish went on to explain that, where needed, the new copies would be updated with more current knowledge and settlements. The discussion drifted into how the old Celestia map made note of native structures not present on current maps made available by Corrington. While this was going on, food was being served. Conan didn't follow much of the dialogue, too focused as he was on a smaller map in front of him. "Uh, does this, uh . . . temple? Yeah, temple," he muttered, "Doesn't it look like a pe-" Thwack! Guilder smacked him with his walking stick. At the other table Dearji and Valentia were enjoying some rock candy, Solas had some frothy fruit drink, and the uisge is of course Tolan's. One of the male servers is bringing Camilla a noji berry cream pie, while another is putting away the unused chairs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some shots of the build empty of figs.Empty 01Empty 02Empty 03Empty 04Empty 05Empty 06 -------------------------------------------------------- I hope you all have enjoyed my little story. Very colorful, and I like the amount of activity you have in the scene. It comes through well in the pictures. Your version of Guilder is grumpier than my version, but it worked. And I enjoyed his fancy pegleg! Nice job working around not having the right head piece, too. FYI, I may use this story to lead into something I'm working on for the near future. Quote

Guilder is grumpy because the fancy peg-leg is heavy, and he had to get up those stairs assisted. I got the impression that he doesn't usually let people help him with his physical limitation, which would add to his irritation. His attitude is solely the result of the afternoon's events. Go ahead. That is what cooperative storytelling is all about. If you want to continue with Conan, his hair is dark brown, and his eye-patch is on his left. What he wears can be up to you. Quote
