GWP leaked!

Nice, two more minifigures, day one for sure.  That nets us five new prints plus 5 new characters in total. (And Gandalf)

New GWP is a bummer. How lame

Yeah, although I'm honestly glad its meh. I'm ok skipping on this one, its no Fell Beast

A disappointing gwp (looks like the minifigs may be fully made of existing parts - maybe beyond the face prints) for a disappointing set.

The revived theme peaked with Rivendell and is on a downward course.

Yes!!! So glad it is not a Brickheadz... The Shire is definitely a day one purchase for me then, can't wait :-)

I wonder if that is because of the approach. They had a large group of designers all working on Rivendell, and the way it was presented seemed to imply it was a passion project, and each of them brought something unique.

The other sets have all been produced in a more standard looking way it seems, with a smaller design team, and perhaps the pressure of a standard schedule. This is all speculation, but it feels right given what's happened with the subsequent sets

I'm not sure it's legit.

Itavix is a 'MOC'er and has made LotR stuff before.
The image is weird and the bottom of the base is cut off along with a strange reflection beneath which is just the exact picture mirrored. (the underside of the water and boat are not reflected.)
It also uses existing prints, which is sometimes the case with a GWP... so make of that what you will.

I was sceptical after the first rumour that they would make a set based off a cold-blooded murder.

I think Itavix just challenged himself to make the rumoured set within the rumoured piece count.

There's a pic of the box now, so I think it is safe to assume it is indeed legit.

I like the gwp, however, if that is the official gwp the torso is the wrong colors and design for Sméagol.  He has a greenish coat with prominent buttons and a scarf thing in the movie.  That would be highly disappointing if they didn’t do an accurate torso print considering that is the whole character.

It is inacurrate because the torso is sadly a reuse and not exclusive to the GWP...

That is disappointing. I will say that the torso works for a spare hobbit but it’s not Sméagol.

on a better subject, what other torso’s work well for spare hobbits for the party?  Same with other face prints, has anyone made generic hobbits?  I figure I’ll need to make three or four for the party.

Looks like the GWP has no unique prints/parts. What a disappointing release...

So basically Lego can make a big brown something with LOTR label on it and people will buy it all the same?

They already tried that with HP (76429). :-)

Poor Filch has already lost his printed legs, now he'll be wondering where his torso's gone too. :snicker:

Correction - looks like the heads may be unique. Doesn't change my opinion though...

Have we confirmed both torso prints are reused?  I haven't seen a picture of Deagol at all that shows the torso print?

Smeagol is confirmed to be a reuse, Deagol technically not - but it would be weird for the more important character to not get a new print, while someone who is a blink and you missed him does.

Fair point, sad that we don’t get a print or the right color, but two extra minifigs is still a win.

I think the scene and concept are good, and the scene is well executed.  I probably would have preferred two generic hobbits and a gwp called “bilbo’s birthday”. With some tables and food to flesh out the scene.  Then I don’t care about reuse of prints as much.  But I am still happy to get minifigures in a gwp.

day one buy for me.

Indeed, I watched the movie scene again and the set is quite faithful. I find it a worthy GWP overall, even if it is not as unique as the Fellbeast.

I remember the fellbeast gwp getting a very lukewarm reception last time around. It surprised me because I kind of liked it. I didn’t squeeze finances to buy the tower (then or now) but when I saw the gwp skyrocket like crazy I admit I had some regrets… now results may vary but who’s to say it won’t happen again? In fact I wonder if that might be a reason why TLG increased the price of the new set.

I have made hobbits using torsos from other licensed themes and occasionally yellow skin sets. The Lone Ranger had a very good range with Barret, Butch, Frank, Danny, Frank, Jesus and Ray. The coachman from PotC is also useful. Most of the female torsos from both those themes are good too. Ault characters from Harry Potter can also be a good source. I've also used Short Round from Indy and ostrich jockey from PoP in the past.

CMF prospector can be useful for one working in the fields, as are any plain shirts like that for Owen Grady.
