Arjo Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Indeed, beautiful… might even have justified the price! As it is though, the costing he indicates on top of that of the set would push it into Rivendell/Barad dur territory which is a non-starter. whomever buys the set will want to work on those trees anyway, probably in a more economical fashion though. Gnukan Posted March 25 Posted March 25 22 minutes ago, Kraby said: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-215733/rebelnili/the-shire-lusher-trees/ Perfect Oh wow that is beautiful. That’s the impression I was expecting to get from the set reveal (I get the trees were never going to be that lush, but at least more like that) Quote
mtrsteve Posted March 25 Posted March 25 1 hour ago, Kraby said: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-215733/rebelnili/the-shire-lusher-trees/ Perfect Yep, something closer to this would justify the price. Even if just the party tree had gotten this glow up, it would feel much closer in both vibe and value. Quote
Balrogofmorgoth Posted March 25 Posted March 25 It’s beautiful. It’s certainly not perfect, but it’s an outstanding set nonetheless. Easy day one Quote
Jarreth2 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 (edited) The more I see of this, the more I'm liking it. I skipped Barad Dur as it just didn't appeal to me, neither did the Fell Beast. This does. Hopefully I'll be able to get the Smeagol and Deagol set, is it great, no, but it's a GWP. I'll probably upgrade the trees with the link here. I noticed the new melted candle pieces, they're rather good. Now I',m just wondering .. should I get Barad Dur so I don't miss it ! 😂🙄 EDIT .. having just watched a review on youtube they said the melted candle was just a pen piece ? I liked them before but now I want to add to them. Edited March 26 by Lordhelmet Quote
TeufelHund Posted March 26 Posted March 26 It's horribly overpriced and looks tiny next to Rivendell/Barad Dur. I also don't like the GWP at all. Definitely will wait for a discount on this if I bother at all. Quote

The new Gandalf head comes in the set so a minifigure of him is included at least.. You can have a look at Duckbricks YouTube video from fan media days to see designers interviews. The first edition had more of the Shire included but was quickly removed.. It seems like they actually used budget on the shirt piece, I was sure that came in another theme Quote
TheDoctor Posted March 26 Posted March 26 10 hours ago, Kraby said: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-215733/rebelnili/the-shire-lusher-trees/ Perfect Wow, I wish I hadn't seen that... Parts and instructions purchased Thankfully, PaB had everything! Those tress being fuller really elevates the set, especially the party tree. It looks much more like a part of the set than just an add-on. Quote

I was on fence about ordering it (I think I mainly want the gwp and my vip points make cost seem less excessive ha) but to now add even more £ to make trees look good. I’m on the fence. Does anyone know/found the measurements/dimensions for just Bag end (ignoring party tree etc.)? I think that will make my decision for me (will it fit on my heaving shelves) ha! I think that will make my decision for me (will it fit on my heaving shelves) ha! 20 cm (7.5 in.) high, 45 cm (17.5 in.) wide and 27 cm (10.5 in.) deep ( I think the fact the other 2 sets were considerably taller doesn't help with the perceived value and how well it fits into the line-up. It is surprisingly deep) Yeah, came in at just over £130 (bought some bits to make reins for Gandalf's cart as it looks so odd when he's just sat there not holding anything) Takes the edge off a bit, knowing I'll get some points back using PaB. But it will be on my desk and all day I would be thinking about how bare it looked in comparison to the MOC Edited March 26 by TheDoctor Quote
TheDoctor Posted March 26 Posted March 26 (edited) Very interesting detail in the 'DuckBricks' designer interview. The designers are discussing the colour pallets of the 3 sets together and then laugh and say "There's not a lot of white yet..." (about 22min mark) So they're obviously well aware that Gondor is absent from the theme so far, and they allude to it being discussed when deciding what the next set should be. (perhaps more interesting is they never outright say "Gondor" or "Minas Tirith", make of that what you will) EDIT; They also confirm Gandalf's new face print will be used in the Book Nook, so it will be minifig scale to some extent! (I still think the Balrog will be a brick built 'relief' on the back wall) Edited March 26 by TheDoctor Quote

They smile but don't follow up, and a question is immediately asked by the interviewers afterwards, which is weird (as if there was an implicit agreement between them on the impossibility of knowing more). Besides, if I remember correctly, the question of another possible set is never approcahed in this video... When someone asks the designers about the future of the theme (I'm thinking of the similar videos of DuckBricks or Brick Fanatics about Rivendell and Barad-Dûr), they simply respond by saying that this decision is not up to them and that they don't know anything (which is of course doubtful regarding the fact that Ashwin Visser is the lead graphic designer for the theme). I think I will keep my eyes open for other MOCs too that add to the trees. This version costs $140 on pick a brick (and there are two missing parts, and one with a limit). It looks great but I think there is probably a good middle ground (maybe just doing the party tree, and some small additions to the bag end tree). It is hard to look at the set now though and not think of how good it will look with the updates - especially the party tree. I just did a PAB order to get 7 new hobbits (and a bricklink order for torso's), so I will hold off for a while. Regardless, seeing how good it can be with some modifications makes me want to modify it. Quote

A second smaller hobbit home without interior would have been tremendous so that one could recreate more of a path for Gandalf to arrive after all. 4 hours ago, TheDoctor said: (I still think the Balrog will be a brick built 'relief' on the back wall) You're probably right though it's still a shame - after all the T-rex (with license) is 40$ worth so a Balrog should be also possible for that price. The 75005 Rancor pit was 60$ in 2013 that's just 85$ - officially - now! Even for 100$ this would be still an amazing set to have when I see other current offerings. Quote

I will prioritize fixing the party tree, and am thinking of using pieces from my Bonsai tree (10281) and Attack of the Wargs (79002). Quote

Yes, they have the dark brown and tan dual molded legs, and I think five colors of the hair. I did pick up two torsos on there too but most of the torsos and face prints I got were from bricklink. It was pretty cheap too, I did add a bunch of parts to make a wheat field and pumpkin patch (and a few animals) to build out a pathway for Gandalf. Edit: the black hair shows up separately from the Rivendell search. Edited March 26 by Lordhelmet Quote
