2GodBDGlory Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Would anyone mind PMing me a link to these images? I don't have Instagram, so I can't see 'em that way, but I'm excited to see these sets! Quote
Rjbricks Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Ah, crap, might have to start saving for these after all! Quote
Wardancer Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 (edited) For someone who has spend 12 years of making custom Elves this is probably the most important release EVER. Finally a home for at least some of the army. The looks of it are perfect. The roofs, the angles, the trees. This looks like it was designed by some of these hardcore moccers which I still look up to. This changes plans a little. I have started building LegoMocLocs Rivendell and as much as I adore his designs I must say the official one looks superior (although his covers much more ground). So this one will kind of set the standard for future projects, I hope to integrate my treehouse somehow by giving the three huts an Elven look. The fact that is only half of a house must be rectified by moccing. Maybe by selling all non-elves I can make some money back. By the way: The leaked Disney Dwarves set also looks very compatible to any historical village. And what is this with the Zelda trees?! Edited February 1, 2023 by Wardancer Quote

It depends on the overall depth and in this regard, I think that the set will be deep enough. And also we dont know nothing about interior details which are (as we know from modular theme) quite parts consuming :) No! Definitely not. I would like an extension of what looks like a small waterfall though. I’m just not seeing 6000 pieces yet. Maybe there’s a lot more going on than we can see in the image. Inside the tower perhaps?? I’m itching for a better photo. Quote

Considering the roof and all the leaves and rocks there, that's 6k easy. Tons of small parts for the details here. Quote
A_Forest_of_Lego Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Where can I see the Barad-Dur photo? Quote
PsychoBuilder Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Are we thinking that the center has a ton of water (1x2 tiles, probably) that allows for the whole thing to be one conjoined piece? Quote
Modal Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Rivendell looks awfully small to me for $500, am I crazy? This just looks like a small scene instead of a towering display piece like Hogwarts. Don’t think I would even consider buying this if this is what the final version looks like. Quote

I’m looking at my HP Castle (6020 pieces) and Diagon Alley (5544 pieces) sets and it doesn’t seem comparable. Again this is based on a blurry image. I’m sure there’s more going on than we can see. Follows Closely Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Dang, I am going to be spending a lot on LEGO! Quote

Yea exactly, I REALLY wish they went microscale here so we could at least have the whole city. This looks like an oversized play set Quote
Huigberts Builds Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Okay, didn't even know this topic existed. Not quite sure why it's under history instead of licensed. But oh well. I love Rivendell, especially with all the trees. I think I can even spot old Bilbo right in the middle, which was an absolute must for me. Although it kinda looks like he has the Doc Brown hairpiece, which would ruin the biggest reason of why I wanted the figure xD. I hope I'm wrong though. Barad-dûr is even better imo. Definitely the biggest location missing from the original wave. I just hope this one will actually release. Quote
unclejeffie Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Is the set lego exclusive or would it be available at retailers at a later date Quote
Triceron Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 I think they're doing this set right. Focus everything on the main sections and make em look good. MOC builders can then take that style and run with it and expand as they please. It's a smart move. Better than expanding it out but losing out on the detail, better than making it microscale. I think what we see so far is a happy medium Quote
Modal Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 (edited) Yea idk I wanted a microscale version of this https://lotr.fandom.com/wiki/Rivendell?file=614690.jpg On a cliff with waterfalls and all. Completing an entire minifigure scale version of the leaked set is not only insanely expensive but way too big for anyone that's not a hard core LEGO MOC person Edited February 1, 2023 by Modal Quote

There's obviously no version they can release that will please everybody, but play scale with lots of figures is probably covering the largest segment of demand. And it's easier to MOC microscale than minifigures ;) Quote

It seems to be the same size as Hogwarts if not bigger 😀 Its always better to wait until more detailed pics came out rather than making judgements from blurry leaked photos which may be not representing final product. ;) Quote

I don't have the time to not only MOC that up with professional quality but also get all the pieces at insane prices and have a less enjoyable experience. I buy lego for the experience of building a well made product and the care that LEGO puts into it. To think a casual could just MOC something like this up is quite a leap lol and also something I cannot afford in time I'm happy that people are happy with it, I just find the obsession of these big sets being minifigure scale is a bit overstated, especially as bigger adult focused sets are made with displaying in mind as a majority. This feels like half a set more than a full one. But I guess we shall wait until the final build gets revealed and see how it eventually sells. Edited February 1, 2023 by Modal Quote

sebastian666 Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 What a time to be alive! The Rivendell set is literally a dream come true. It’s exactly what I was hoping for - the scale, the trees, the bridge, the gazebo where Arwen gives Aragorn the Evenstar, the minifigs… Bilbo! The design of this set is simply perfect. I can’t wait to see more detailed pictures in the days and weeks ahead. And Barad-Dur… all I can say is WOW. I hope they use the new Avatar minifig body for Sauron. These sets are both day one purchases for me without a moment’s hesitation. Looking forward to the day - hopefully this year - that I can display the union of the Two Towers in my study. https://youtu.be/_qE5FSG6K0Y Quote

It's by no means the perfect scale, but it would get the point across without the need for a robotic looking build or need for a new bigfig mould. Edited February 1, 2023 by Alegrispa Quote

I'm not here to 'yuck your yum' if the enjoyment you get out of Lego is from following the original instructions and working through the builds. To each their own! Quote

Lordhelmet Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 I have to say, I was not expecting this for Rivendell. I had more of a buildings (maybe a full building, or micro scale) picture in mind. I think most of the Mocs have been this way, and I was looking at it from that lens. (All the comparisons to date have been Rivendell Mocs, hogwarts microscale, diagon alley - all building focused). I have to say I really like the actual direction taken. It reminds me the most of the helms deep set but with the detail from orthanc (some lonely mountain set vibes too). What I mean by this is it really fits into the old lord of the rings theme but at a higher detail and scale than before. I am actually very happy with that direction because it maintains a certain vision for the theme - high display ability, definitely Lego (like if Lego did a LOTR movie), and some play feel to it as well. The focus is on the story and characters within a beautiful background. Not what I had expected regardless of scale, but am very excited about the direction. (let’s be honest it was a day one purchase for me regardless of how it looked). This also makes me think we will see more play scale sets in this same vein. And now it would be fun to speculate wildly on a GWP for this. My vote is for a Balrog. Quote
