sed6 Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I see lots of these around my parts. My new Mustang was delivered months ago by rail, probably in one these. It's 6 studs wide, about 50 studs long and 14 studs high measured from the rail. I'd like to build three but dang they are heavy and expensive. So I might wait a bit. I have a couple of other designs in the works too. Below are a couple of pics and a link to the .lxf on Bricksafe. https://bricksafe.com/pages/sed6/lego-train-autorack-car-carrier Hope you like! LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 You have done a great work, I like the underbody structure ...really impressive! Quote
aawsum Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 Nice rebuild. I was actually unaware of the 1x2 white wedge you used, so learned something there :-) Some ideas on the build. The white also seems to go through (top of the ladder) on both sides, why did you choose to make that yellow in your build? And i am a big fan of 6 wide, so I know this is difficult, but it would be nice to find a way to lower the wagon closer to the track, Quote

Agree about the wheel height. Even custom trucks would only lower it a single plate. Perhaps I'll try the really small train wheels. Here's a new screenshot. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 Wow, thanks for the feedback! Quote
Roadmonkeytj Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 (edited) I love these... I seen them everyday of my childhood sitting outside the Chrysler Plant or cutting the town in half when they would stop and back into the plant lol I agree it would be nice to see them lower. Perhaps some snot and the smallest train wheels would give the impression. Would have to do some custom bracket for the coupler though to maintain height. Are they 4 studs hollow? Would be neat to make at least one this way as empties were doors open... Or have it being loaded Edited November 4, 2018 by Roadmonkeytj Quote
Dragunov2 Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 Really impressive! And u can really load cars in it? And how? Quote
sed6 Posted November 8, 2018 Author Posted November 8, 2018 Thanks! It doesn't open up, so no cars inside. Quote

Yes, these cars are very tricky to get the trucks correct, they are exceptionally low to the rail and almost all lego train wheel options are disproportionately large. I managed to lower my design for the cars by integrating part of the "flatcar" into the trucks. I was able to make the gap between the trucks and frame as small as possible using cheese bricks at the end of the car frame. Quote
