I'm not sure were to post this but this is the stickied topic so I'm just going to quote my post from the Dreamzzz thread:

I don't own this set yet but I saw this on reddit:

EAJZI41.png(

It's the first photo I've seen with a green motorcycle helmet and airtanks (I think the OP used black) and I think it looks great as I hoped.

Fortunately I own 60097 but unfortunately I don't have spares of the green helmet or air tanks and green airtanks are super expensive now. I think 71487 would have been the perfect set for Lego to reintroduce the green air tanks in light of Lego recolouring the classic helmet green in 80054 last year.

I tried putting airtanks on a regular Mateo minifigure to see if the dreadlock hair piece touches and it only just clears but maybe it was too close for comfort for Lego.

I wish they would make a green Futuron astronaut in the same style as the originals. Especially the one from 60097 looks great but the original design is still the best. I know there are some green prototypes from the early 90s on the market but they are very very expensive.

Personally I'm not too fond of the classic Futuron torso as-is. The Classic Space torso works pretty well without an update as a brightly colored logo with a bold insignia. The classic Blacktron torso is a little weaker in my eyes (with its monochrome detail being pretty dated) but is still nice and bold, especially with the benefit of modern printing. Classic Futuron though... I'm not super fond of the tiny, borderless detail that makes up the gold diagonal zipper. I really like how modern minifigures have generally standardized having a certain level of detail not just in having more detail, but having that detail clear and crisp with bold line weights and borders defining the split between differently colored areas.

But that said, I expect if there's a retro-inspired Futuron set like the Galaxy Explorer or Renegade it'll stick pretty close to the originals design-wise like those sets have, albeit with crisper modern printing and possibly back printing. Though if they go that retro-inspired I'm not sure that particular set would provide new colors.

Futuron torso print didn't need to change for any of the re-makes, and all the new ones are incompatible with the old ones. Fine for people that don't have any old ones, but useless for the people it's supposed to give nostalgia to.

It could've been anything else instead and the kids would still be happy.

If they were going to do a melted one they could at least have done it to red, blue, yellow or black.

I mean, nostalgic throwbacks aren't just intended for those who want to expand an existing collection. They have an appeal even for those who no longer have the originals or don't intend to use the new ones with the old. For example, in my case I got really excited for the Space Police III character that had a torso that homaged the Blacktron I torso with the Blacktron II logo, not because I intended to use it with either faction of classic figs (it wouldn't really go with either stylistically), but because it felt like a cool update to the factions while paying homage to both (sort of like a pseudo-"Blacktron III", if you will).

As for the "melted" one, the reason it's green is that it's specifically themed after a green blob-themed character—it wouldn't have realistically been introduced in any other color.

While I prefer the original Futuron style I have no problem with including the new green ones from City or the orange ones from Build a Minifigure in my Space dioramas. The same goes for the Blacktron torso from Space Police III. I make the necessary adjustments so that they'll fit in with my original minifigs and sets.

Just a heads up of a new / old part: The Hulk Truck vs. Thanos set (76312) from Marvel has the first plain yellow Futuron-style space helmet (Part 2446) since a 2009 limited-edition minifigure pack!

Great find! That's in line with the hint in the Renegade instructions that a Futuron set is coming.

While it certainly seems possible that they would do futuron next (other possibilities would be M-Tron and Ice Planet IMO) I wouldn´t get my hopes up to much, since both things you mentioned are pretty weak signs that futuron would be next.

:poke: But... a sort of Futuron is already back with the crew of the Modular Galactic Explorer?
Joking aside, I'll be waiting for this helmet color in PAB.

This morning I suddenly started thinking about yellow helmets when I saw some Unitron minifigs on my shelf. I had to check every set they appeared in on Bricklink and thought they haven't been made in a while. Then I read your post here on Eurobricks. Good that they'll be available again.

By the way, apparently a reddish orange Lego brick suit minifigure is on the way from Build-a-Mini (albeit with non-matching regular orange legs). Still, the reddish orange arms would be perfect to swap for the white right arm on last year's Build-a-Mini space jumpsuit, if you wanted the colors to match the City Space jumpsuit from this year's Galactic Spaceship. I ordered some reddish orange 2024 construction torsos from the online Pick-a-Brick that have yet to arrive, but since the brick suit would probably look less off with non-matching sleeves than the construction gear, I might opt to buy a couple of those brick suits to source the arms from and keep the construction torsos as-is for my dad's City collection.

Where did you see the new BAM parts?

My Pick-a-Brick order from last year finally came in today! Was able to upgrade the solar panels of the Blacktron Cruiser with corner-cut tiles like I planned, if I get a chance I'll take some photos of the finished upgrade.

Very nice.

CMF series 21 Space Police torso makes for a great neo retro Black Futuron Spaceman, black airtanks will cover the "Police" on the back.

But probably won't fit with retro-ified spacemen using the torsos from 60446.

My main interest in series 26 was not the minifigures as intended but the parts to make these:

I don't intend to leave the half mutated face on Blacktron II, instead go for a more neutral modern smiley face like M:Tron and Space Police. And maybe go for the straight boot of these legs if I can find them cheap enough and in numbers and swap the legs onto the black crotch piece. Blacktron I still needs a hands swap too.

Series 24 Robot Warrior on the end is just for fun, with those colours it was crying out for those airtanks and visor.

Oh, that's a good idea. I'll have to remember that for my next order.

Thanks! Yes, the Space Police CMF could easily be converted into a black Futuron astronaut. I also bought the Space minifigs from series 26 for the parts. I changed the Blacktron II one the most.

After I took the picture I changed the helmet of the Blacktron II astronaut to a normal one. Because they are still very inexpensive I've bought several of each faction and changed them all in the same way as in the picture. They look so much better with trans neon green and orange.

Here's some quick and dirty pictures of the modification: https://bsky.app/profile/lyichir.bsky.social/post/3lhwec47bys2s

My order also included a handful of other parts that I hope to maybe use in MOCs related to the City Space theme, including lime green elephant tails/trunks for a potential larger alien build and satin trans-purple 4x4 rock wedge pieces to maybe use for a larger energy crystal deposit.

Nice. I'm not a big fan of the newer style space helmets, plain motorcycle helmets 'til I die!

I've been meaning to bricklink some trans neon orange Ice Planet visors since this torso became available but they're just not that abundant where I am.

Great job, the arrangement of the 2x1 trans red tiles of the official set just doesn't look right.

Thanks for all the positive feedback on the mod I made! Not that it was any massive creative endeavor (just a minor part substitution), but after several years of MOC block that has kept me from completing very much in the way of full MOCs, I'm glad even a little modification like this can be well-received and contribute some small ideas to the community. :classic:
