Knockturn Alley is pretty well a given if the theme runs on long enough. I reckon it's at the top of the 'second division' of sets that weren't in their original plans but have been drafted in post-haste after the theme's success. The other two I can't see, unless they're relatively cheap with good figures. Are they prominent enough in the films/exciting enough to kids to sell on their own merit?

It's even teased in Diagon Alley. I'd be surprised if they didn't at least make Borgin and Burkes.

I think it's more just a part of Diagon Alley's look than a tease. It wouldn't have made much sense if they left the alleyway to Knockturn Alley out of the build imo.

I feel like we can only ever see them in the Harry Potter theme.

Yeah, i thought that too, but the piece is already used in some other sets, such as Ideas Tree House, where it is used for the campfire or in the modular Corner Garage where they use it here in some gear.

True! But I can always dream.

Definitely very exciting, very curious to see how useful they'll be for MOCs as I don't imagine I'll be using them as actual wands. That said I really hope we get a dark red wand soon.

I reckon I’ll probably use the gold wands but only for particular side characters or other minifigures I am using for background characters.

also dark red is a great naturalistic colour for a wand! I’d also like dark green or that light-orange colour from the 2010 Burrow and small parts of Hogwarts sets from 2018-onwards. That being said we’ve had a purple wand of all colours so I bet the next recolour will be something really out there!

Fabuland Orange, returning from a thirty five year hiatus!

I figured the placement of Knockturn Alley in Diagon Alley might be a tease for a future set. The Leaky Cauldron is another set I would like to see so we can have the entrance for Diagon Alley.

I don't recall if we see those shops I mentioned in the movies, I think they would probably just be briefly seen in the background. Madam Malkin's is pretty iconic because that's where Harry and Draco first meet but that's only in the books, not the movies. It would be a nice excuse for a set though to get more Hogwarts robes torsos for each house.

Just watched the LEGO Live event with Marcos and I have two major takeaways...

First, I’m beginning to understand the logic behind the design of the new LEGO Harry Potter 20th anniversary sets. The entire theme of the Live stream was - “Families can build together!” LEGO is really trying to promote the narrative that its toys bring parents and kids together. With the 20th anniversary sets, you can enjoy the nostalgia of a movie from your childhood by building sets that look similar to ones you may have had as a kid with your kid. This probably doesn’t do much to excite AFOLs who don’t have kids (like me), but I imagine it’s probably smart marketing for AFOLs with kids.

Second, I think the question about Gringott’s and Marcos’ answer were very telling... I had pretty much given up all hope that we would be getting a Gringott’s set this year based on the leaks and the feedback we received from our friends with insider info. However, the fact that LEGO chose to bring that question live (and that it came from a store manager of a LEGO store) means that they wanted that information out there. Marcos’ face lit up with joy when he was asked about Gringott’s - and even though his answer was funny and evasive - it looked like a subject he was very excited about. I’m keeping the faith for Gringott’s in 2021!

Glad I'm not the only one who thought he was dying to spill something.

Is it? Seems like a bit of a reach, especially because what they’re doing already is clearly working. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. I won’t be buying them though

As long as it's the official Sorting Hat! :classic:

My belief is that Lego originally planned a four-year run for the new Harry Potter - two years per film, with Fantastic Beasts stuff when the films came out.

Why only four years? 2018 was the release of the second Fantastic Beasts film and there were at that time plans for three more films in the series to be released which would take us well past the four year deadline you've described.

Plot twist: you don’t own a hat

Seriously though, there’s no way Gringotts gets released this year. Bessa’s reaction does imply a set’s on the way, but maybe he seemed excited because he’s working on the model right now

Dont you know what D2C set is? Because if you do, this statement means D2C set is not Gringotts

The gold Ron appears to have the same patch as the Diagon Alley robes. Everything else seems to be Moments robes.

Golden Ron's patch is bigger I think

Some better pictures of the prelims surfaced. I just saw great hall and the Fluffy set. I wouldnt buy Harry Potter sets anyway anymore (money..) but I think they really dont look good. Im ok with the idea. But Lockhart looks bad, Riddle looks bad, and both Basilisk and Fluffy are not good builds. I even like the head use and everything for the Basilisk - but the middle body section looks really bad..

That's the same pictures and same quality as before, just zoomed.

And the figures are just placeholders.

On the subject of wand colours, I'm pretty sure Fleur's wand is green in the films, so there's that.

Also, does anyone else think it's strange that the gold minifigures have printing? For some reason I expected them to just be plain gold. Though I suppose some of the characters would look too generic without printing, especially since they're basing them on the reboot figures. It probably would have been a better idea to base them on the 2001 minifigures if that's what they're trying to commemorate.

Minifigures in prelims are always bad because they are either reuse or just prototypes so if you want to rate their quality wait for official pictures. Otherwise I agree with you that sets look bad (I mean COS and Forbidden Coridor) but I will rather not go into details because I get bashed for criticizing june sets again.... and yeah that middle section of Basilisk could be better but the mould is still great.

They are celebrating an anniversary nobody cares about by making figures most people don't want.

Using up limited  print and recolor budget.

I wouldnt agree for people that have been kids when the original theme started it would be great to celebrate. Also print and recolor budget shouldnt really concern us its not like they have limits they can do whatever they want a multimilion dollar company
