strangely Posted June 17, 2021 Posted June 17, 2021 Yes, 99% of the world is definitely heterosexual in all places at all times and all media must abide by the exact reality of current world demographics, got it. Lol

Then, when you encounter actual homophobia, chances are lower that you’ll be believed. Granted that last sentence by the person you quoted & accused...was strange, there was no fear or hate there. This is the big problem with society, especially when it comes to social media. Throwing out accusations like they’re candy simply because so,some doesn’t align with one’s views. It’s dumb & does nothing to help the conversation or problem at large.
Karalora Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 Not all homophobia (or other sociological "phobias," for that matter) is big and obvious and extreme. Pato Sendado expressed the sentiment (paraphrased) "I have no problem with gay people, but there's too many of them in the media!" The second half of the sentence makes the first half a lie. Obviously, Pato Sendado does have a problem with gay people if seeing them in the media in proportions which (are perceived to) outstrip their real-world percentages is upsetting to them. This is a form of homophobia. The "phobia" doesn't necessarily mean fear or even hate. It means aversion, and aversion comes in all different strengths.

Mods, if you are reading this, I don't want to be banned. Please for the love of god. Look, I have absolutely no problems with the lgbtq community. Love thy neighbor broseph. But on the other hand, LEGO is inserting politics into a children's toy. It isn't right, especially now when the lgbtq community is such a hot political issue in the current political climate. Maybe in a few years this set would not be political, but now it very much is. Just as we don't have LEGO Fortnite because of the violence we shouldn't have this because of the politics. Look at how much controversy the Tifaglar (idk how to spell lol) Square set had for including a rainbow 1×1. This set is definitely not going over well. It's just too political. Especially for a children's toy. Rant over. Raichu signing out.
williejm Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 Must be nice when your existence is ‘not political’.

Just because some people have a different point of view, does that automatically make them homophobes? As long as they respectfully express their opinion without any hate or stigma against anyone, I see no reason why they should be instantly labeled as "homophobes". I am so tired of seeing so many people instantly be labeled as homophobes just for saying anything that even remotely disagrees with the LGBT point of view. As @DBlegonerd7 has said, just constantly throwing that word out there is disingenuous and makes the word quickly lose its meaning. Edited June 18, 2021 by Lego David

Why are certain sexual identities/orientations deemed “political” while others aren’t? It’s the same tired argument every time a minority is represented somewhere. You could just as easily argue that heterosexuals being represented is political, with the goal of preserving the status quo and promoting heteronormativity So either all of them are political, or none are. You can’t have your cake and eat it too

Ok, so there's no straight pride flag in the set, when there's 2 lgbtq ones and there's no Caucasian skin toned figure, or mixed Caucasian figure to represent me. So "Everyone" only means Gay people, Trans people, and PoC. I see how it is. I'm apparently not awesome. 2 minutes ago, williejm said: You might not. Feel free not to buy it. A handy clue that you may be being something-phobic is if you find yourself voicing something like this: ’I have no problem with <insert description> BUT <then go on to limiting your acceptance, of their validity, or suggesting something about their character> ‘ Easy way for people not to be called homophobes, is to not be homophobic. If you are so tired of seeing people being labelled as homophobes, just try and imagine how tired LGBTQ+ people are of being subject to homophobia. Or seeing it go unchecked. Or seeing hilarious jokes, or assumptions, or questions. Maybe that’s why seeing one, or possibly two, Lego sets that acknowledge and celebrate our *existence* is something some of us are excited and happy about. Edited June 18, 2021 by williejm

Never ever said that straight white people were underrepresented in LEGO. But at the same time this set is "everyone", so I guess straight white people don't fall in that catagory? So are you or LEGO being racist or heterophobic? We aren't underrepresented, and I'm fine with having gay LEGO characters. But this set is all about it. It's not right to have this Mega political set, while also having no Mega political straight pride set, or a merge between the two.
