Hello to everyone on the town subforum also! My latest finished MOC is the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition 'Bandit' in Speed Champions 8-wide style.

It's something I have been planning on making in Lego for a long time as it's my all time favorite muscle car. It wasn't the easiest subject, it has some distinct fearures that I always felt were quite challenging to create in Lego, but I wanted to try anyway and in the end I'm actually quite happy about the overall result.

The car is of course most known for its role in the Smokey and the Bandit movie from 1977, and that was where my inspiration also came from. I also wanted to make a few minifigs to accompany it, so there's of course the Bandit himself in the car (who I had to make sure fits in with his hat on), Snowman and the Frog.

It's a fairly dense build with 311 parts, mainly because of some SNOT support structures needed to create the shapes. The front is built mostly with studs on the side, the body has studs facing up and down (mainly to create the curved shape of the doors) and the rear is also a separate section with both sideways and upside-down studdage.

I usually don't like to have too many stickers on my builds, but I wanted to make a few more stickers for this one than usual (in the Speed Champions fashion). The real car has even more trim but I wanted to try to represent it to the extent that still looks natural in Lego form.

I also created instructions for this one, if you are interested, they are available on rebrickable. Thanks!

Although I'm not generally a fan of 8 wide but this is fantastic, great choice of subject matter and great techniques used!

Thanks! Ya this is one of my favorite cars and something I have definitely wanted to make. Somehow for me the 8-wide format striked a good nerve and I feel like there's just the right amount of possibilities in part usage for a decent amount of detail etc. It's not too big either so the projects are possible to complete :)

I think the general size and proportions are quite natural in 8-wide, but it is probably a bit big if you want to put them in a standard Lego city as such. I still feel the scale is reasonable and the minifigs look ok around them. Anyway the minifig scale differs based on which way you look at it (literally!).

Wicked. The way you managed to create the iconic T-tops for the Trans-Am is brilliant. I don't think it would be possible in anything less than 8-wide.

Thanks! I wanted to have it with the the T-tops, but they are limiting the head space for minifigs a bit. On the other hand however, now Bandit's hat just fits in, with a 0.001 mm clearance...

"Wait a minute, why do you want that beer so bad?"

"'Cause he's thirsty, dummy."

I love that movie.

AMAZING job on the car @firefabric

Thanks, much appreciated! Ya the movie is great, one of the best.

"I need a new car" ... "speedy car" ... "speedier than that"
