FinlayTheFaithful Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Got both of the $10 Soapbox car sets today, can confirm they are quite charming. Big hopes they expand on that idea sometime soon, A tuner car soapbox racer would be excellent Quote

jonwil Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I am liking City 2025. Not interested in the F1 stuff (the Speed Champions is more interesting there) but other stuff is great so far. Bought the pack with the hospital bed and plane and also the red tractor (I am building a sheep station so more sheep is most definitely useful to me). I want the ambulance and donut truck as well. LCP Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Image of the 60449 'Police Off-road Chase' has been released. Quote
Lemerbrix Posted January 30 Posted January 30 That police humvee looks AWESOME! This feels like a successor to 60007, albeit without chase McCain, or duke detain for that matter. Quote

Powered by Bricks Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 So a normal police version of 60172 That crook's car is amazing, Mad Max style! If it's 30€ it's a great deal for a city set. Quote
FinlayTheFaithful Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Also noticed that the off road car for the crooks has the same snake-like stickers the green muscle car from last year had, getting the impression that will be a thing for crook vehicles for a while Quote
The Island Chronicles Posted January 31 Posted January 31 (edited) I actually love the idea of a new police off-road chase set. But I don't really care for the way the police van looks. I would've used a police monster truck like the ones used in the old mountain police sets with the net shooters and all. Those were cool. I also love the new splashers they have been using for the vehicles lately. But can we get a normal looking police cruiser like the ones from 2019 and 2022? Ruthin Road Posted February 7 Posted February 7 With regards to the Formula 1 sets, is this the first time that there has been a wave of licensed sets within the City theme? It seems a shame to introduce licensed products into such a core theme for children especially given that Lego have been quite happily producing non-licensed Lego Town/ City racing cars for over 30 years. Mind you, I suppose you could argue the Shell petrol stations and vehicles were a licensed theme although they were much more spread out and infrequent. Quote

I'll admit that I was kinda hoping for the F1 cars to be sponsored by fictional companies such as Octan, Vita Rush, Fresh, etc. Quote

I had always hoped for a supermarket with its own colours, etc. no doubt Lego these days would only use real brands that might pay them to advertise their product. I always thought Octan was the name of the petroleum company - anybody know if it officially stood for anything or if it was just supposed to sound a bit like like octane or is it octane in another language (maybe Danish)? Because, I am not aware of it, rather the opposite that Lego has to pay IP holders to be allowed to use their IP. Aside from that Lego has plenty own "brands" they use for their products - and there is actually something similar to what you are looking for: 60347 Grocery Store Quote
Lyichir Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Realistically, I don't see something like the F1 sets' licensing happening in a ton of other scenarios. In this case, Lego licensed with Formula One and every team, in part for the already heavily licensed Speed Champions/Technic lines, and to get their money's worth out of the deal and not leave out consumer segments they expanded that to City (aimed at lower age ranges like 4- to 6-year olds) and Duplo (for 2- to 3-year-olds). In cases where there's not a big picture, overarching licensing initiative like that, I doubt Lego would bother with that much licensing in the City theme—not only does it cost more but younger kids are unlikely to have much major "brand loyalty/fandom" for more everyday subject matter compared to what they might have for a motorsports team. For example, IPs like Star Wars, Marvel, Jurassic Park and Harry Potter don’t need Lego to advertise them as they would help Lego sell more products rather than vice Verda. There was a UK set which had Asda stickers but I can’t see Lego having paid Asda for those. i did think of the Grocery Store set but never really saw it as a supermarket - it always looked more like the kind of shop you get at a petrol garage to me, although it does have a supermarket logo branding albeit no name! I wish the made those trolley pieces in metallic grey too! Quote
