Powered by Bricks Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Any thoughts or speculation about the new Artic Train? I believe it might have a new system, as both the Freight Train and Powered Up Remote Control are being discontinued. Bummer there is isn't a lot we can see currently. I personally think it's going to be a cargo train type set, with the same elements as the the old 2018 mobile base, with the exception of the Saw Blade Vehicle. Quote
RenLUG - Central Florida Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Many of us were also thinking a freight train, but with the name "Arctic Explorer Express Train" it may end up being a passenger train, since the express moniker has always referred to passenger trains in the Lego world. Quote

True but given the fact that some of these names are misleading translations of say, german retailers or platforms, it's uncertain. For last year's January list, the leaked name for the prison island set was "police station with prison", even though the set is everything but a police station. Also It's hard to think a Artic Explorers collection needs a PASSENGER Train. Edited February 12 by Powered by Bricks Quote
lifeinplastic Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) I'm curious about the train too - I would very much like a Passenger train, as the last few have not looked particularly good, in my view. I watch a lot of travel vlogs on Youtube and there are often people making a journey into the Arctic Circle on a passenger train, so they do exist, but I agree a freight train is more likely. I'm not sure what would make the train particularly obvious that it was an Arctic passenger train but hopefully the set will include some decent scenery (I wouldn't object at all to a return of the snow covered large conifer tree parts - Plant, Tree Pine Large 4 x 4 x 6 2/3 with Marbled White Pattern : Part 3471pb01 | BrickLink but preferably in dark green and olive green). A snow covered station with minifigs dressed in suitable winter gear would please me as well. Edited February 12 by lifeinplastic Quote

The 2014 is the absolute best, I have to say the 2022 one is not great at its front but i do like the back of the locomotive and the carriages. When I first saw the leaked list i immediately thought of a city video I remember seeing in 2014. I wish we could have a similar locomotive to 60052 for the upcoming train. It's been a while since we've had a single cab locomotive. I could see some kind of infrastructure being included but I highly doubt it will be some kind of station as we're having one this year as a standalone set. Ps: I can't believe we are having trains again next year! The time passed so fast! Extra Edit: What would you say if instead of a bus, taxi or maintenance vehicle, the future train stations could include a dummy locomotive? I think it would be better for play value and gives you a better reason to collect the sets for kids. And now the trains just include 2 carriages! Edited February 12 by Powered by Bricks Quote
lifeinplastic Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I was lucky enough to grow up in the era of the Metroliner and the separate Club Car when there were quite a number of rail-related sets available like track variety, signal box, station, etc. would be nice to have that again with collectors able to build up a good model railway via multiple sets. For example, bridges, multiple carriages, etc The 2014 train was ok and probably one of the best since. I really dislike the stickered frontage that completely spoiled the 2018 train and I thought the 2022 version was a lime green monstrosity! Quote

I wouldn't mind one of those to be honest, but considering that trains can already be converted into dummy locomotives with no motors - Lego probably thinks that idea would be pretty pointless. Its likely that they have already thought of doing that. The downtown tram is somewhat of a dummy train as its one that you push along. 2 hours ago, lifeinplastic said: I was lucky enough to grow up in the era of the Metroliner and the separate Club Car when there were quite a number of rail-related sets available like track variety, signal box, station, etc. would be nice to have that again with collectors able to build up a good model railway via multiple sets. Ooooooh how I wish we could go back to that era where we had an entire theme of trains equipment (i.e. standalone stations, train cars, rails, sheds and even engines). The My Own Train theme was shortlived, but I tell you, that theme will be missed. As far as the 2022 passenger train is concerned, I'm there with you. Quote

What i was trying to say was. How about include a dummy locomotive to function the same way as this set? I say this as kids could have better play for a train station, and this could function like the World City Theme did it back in the day. As someone who childhood was marked by trains like the horizon express or the 2010 cargo train. My opinion about trains is considerably different. But I do admit that it would be incredible to see a real train subtheme, give some meaning to variety and collection. Also besides not having a 80s 90s childhood, One of my all time favourites was the metroliner for sure. Edited February 13 by Powered by Bricks Quote

Something akin to one of those small 4 wheeled shunters from the 1930s could make a fine addition, mainly diesel, but I wouldn't have a problem with City doing steam stuff in the future Quote
Izzynufc-2 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 The 2018 passenger train reminds me of an LNER Azuma. I feel we might maybe get a diesel shunter in the future. I’d love a Lego City Railway Museum set Quote

Yes, to function as a add on to the passenger train, I think kids and collectors would prefer that instead of a taxi or something. Last Train Station had a wannabe train alternative to give some purpose and use to the tracks. At least a better alternative to buying a modified set off a 3rd party seller. 33 minutes ago, Izzynufc-2 said: The 2018 passenger train reminds me of an LNER Azuma. I grew up with the former set but think the latter one looks like a more interesting build experience overall, plus looks more realistic (with two side-by-side seats like a real vehicle).. In general I don't miss the days of four-wide vehicles with more basic builds and more abstract appearances. Quote

A good comparison and it does seem at first glance you get more in the older set due to the terrain and croc, despite less pieces. The BURP part probably contributes to that. It would have been good to have an animal with the newer set. That would have been the difference between me getting it and now probably not. A bighorn sheep or even the eagle would have been appropriate. Quote

The 2018 train does remind me more of a Portuguese Cp 3401. And funny enough we have a passenger train that looks pretty similar to the 2015 cargo train. And I have a question for non Europeans: What's the most expensive City Train set you can buy? (All 2006-2022 trains count) Quote
lifeinplastic Posted February 13 Posted February 13 So what do we think is going to make the train set an ‘Arctic’ one, even if it is a passenger train or freight? We’ve obviously had both before without being specifically released as Arctic, so what would be the difference? Quote

I would assume beyond whatever the train itself looks like, the cargo might be mainly arctic vehicles or scientific equipment and if a station/platform is included it may be designed like a more remote arctic base (as opposed to an urban train station/platform).
