Oh I agree the removable "shop" part is cute for the donut and burger trucks, and handy, with no big focus on City buildings right now as the 8x8 / 8x16 system seems to have stopped at the moment.

Friends does have some real nice food carts and shops as well, in particular this year's Candy Store would make a very colorful Candy truck.

A cargo truck maybe?

Also this is completely unrelated and it's more of a theory than any kind of leak or news. But there's a possibility of us having a Fourth Eletric Component System for Trains. In a recent LEGO post made on their website, they had shown a brand new series of motorized products/components for the Education branch, the same theme/brand that created what led to powered up. However, the Passenger train doesn't seem to have any signs of being discontinued next year. Unlike all of the motors, hub, controller and The Cargo Train. (Might be a error on the page)

ALSO also any opinions on what the 2026 could have? Any personal ideas for what would you like to see on a upcoming train?

Would be interesting to see if they make a new battery/charging system, perhaps some "power bank" type thing chargeable via the wall powergrid and optionally USB etc.

And perhaps smaller then the current battery box type of things.

I hope so! I'm tired of having to buy a ton of batteries to get my trains to run.

The latest Technic RC car features a all-in-one hub that is rechargeable with USB-c.  A guaranteed best-seller would be a train version of said hub, lights, motor, battery in one small package? SOLD!

The new education sets also feature rechargeable batteries, but it's been that way for quite some time.

They’ve not done a cargo truck for ages, they used to be done on a frequent basis. It would be interesting to see Lego bring back the cargo sub theme and see what the sets will look like considering there are lot more modern pieces nowadays and now the trucks are getting bigger

Would a truck carrying a locomotive work in the city range? 
 

What I would like to see un an upcoming train is a British type locomotive like the class 66 or a class 800. I’d also like to see a Lego City steam train also, the set could be named Charter Train.

What is exactly a modular garage?

About the upcoming trains I would like to see a updated horizon express, or another ICE train. As for a cargo train I would like to see a Lego Version of the portuguese Cp 1400. I long for another white/orange passenger train and blue/red cargo train.

Personally I don't think that the idea of Cargo sets coming back would be bad at all. Kids still like those kinds of sets. If it's too boring, make them the way they did it with 60198,  give a twist to the common type of police/criminal sets. Instead of robbing banks and museums, how about cargo vehicles? A plane, a truck and helicopter are long overdue. They already gave us a new harbour.

Dear Lego, Can you please stop with the repetitive vehicles and give us actual buildings, different vehicles and less boring 4+ vehicles?

So a Garage with different sections that has different that can easily by switched around.

Oh that would be incredible! If we'd gotten a remake of the 2012 garage instead of the Scrapyard. It could sell well both for kids and adults, the old one is quite pricey nowadays.

I recently bought the ambulance and the mountain truck, both were pretty solid builds!

edit: the ambulance was the first set I’ve seen to have paper bags!

I built the 2025 Creator cat and it had paper bags but in bag 3 there was a smalller plastic bag too.

I also found a whole bunch of 2025 polybags which use similar paper as the magazine gift bags now. 

2025 City had paper for the donut truck for me, but plastic for a bunch of others like the sports car.

So not a 100% appear rate yet, but it's getting there. And I know it still varies per continent.

 

The boxes also show the set name and number of pieces on the front of the box, which was not the case for 2024 or older sets , but there are still 2-3 "versions" of boxes / instructions being produced (V29 (International) and V39 (North America) and sometimes a V55 (China) variant)

Well, this was the first time seeing paper bags in the U.S. I don’t know if you also are located in the U.S, but the creator cat had plastic for me. I think having name and piece count on the boxes is really helpful.

To me I've seen paper bags on the Fire Station, Fire 4x4 with boat, and on the Jungle buggy. While the prison island had plastic bags. Here in Southern Europe, magazines are not always released in the same order as the original publisher does, so it's quute common to find a bunch of magazines with plastic gift bags, and sometimes a few paper ones. Thought 2025 was going to be all in for paper bags, looks not like it.

Oh wow! I had plastic bags in the one I brought. I agree, both of those are definately solid builds. I brought the ambulance as part of a vehicle haul along with the lifeguard truck, camper and mobile doughnut shop. That ambulance fits right into my town.

A hot rod of any kind like what Speed Champions gave us in 2016, would love to see that be the obligatory $10 vehicle set of 2026

My favorite City set of 2025 so far has to be the hospital bed racer although the donut truck is also really cool (I especially like that they have the cop buying donuts)

For 2026, I hope they bring the designer of Friends sets to assist with making the sets centered around the buildings in City. I don't mean actually make the sets centered around girls. But I mean upgrade the detail. I love what the designer of Speed Champions did with the vehicles. Now the buildings need an upgrade. For 2026, I want a post office!

As far as trains are concerned, I think they should abolish the trains subtheme and spread the trains accross subthemes. For example, police and fire trains do exist, even if we don't see them often - they're mainly prominent in Europe. Hospital trains were pretty prominent in the past, especially during the dark ages of the US Army (.i.e the first and second world wars). Perhaps a modern day rail-going ambulance anyone? There are also breakdown trains which tow broken down engines and even construction trains are pretty prominent. Of course, we can have the passenger and freight trains that come every 2-3 years, but those can easily be put into the cargo and a potential public transportation subthemes.

952210 Robbie Rolla's Steamroller from 2022 did have both rolls and is a genius build considering the small size.

Seems like the only double drum roller set would go all the way back to 2009:

30003 Road Roller

But the current 2024 set is cheap enough to make 2 and convert it into  steamroller + wheel loader type of builds

(and there's 60450 Wheel Loader but that uses a different color of yellow, so would not be an exact copy)

Ever since 2021 I've been longing for a decent airport, why is LEGO avoiding the Airport Subtheme now?  Not just Air Transport, but cargo planes, Coast Guard, actual subthemes.

And why oh why do we have to see a great idea for a set remake be ruined by 4+ inclusion?

2020 Airport-Ruined

2022 Farm-Ruined

2023 Police and Fire Stations-Ruined and Awful

I'm tired of this Ups-and-downs era of city, where I look at a promising set in a leaked list only to be a crap of a set because it's 4+.

The idea (of 4+, for context) isn't a best-seller at all, most retailers I visit are full of sets that no one grabs or purchases. Just DO A DAMN THEME, don't ruin the others!

Now returning to what happened to subthemes beside Space, Police, Fire and Great Vehicles!

Hospital is either a standalone or part of a city building subtheme.

Train sets are just 2 trains and a station.

I think the 2020 and 2023 passenger airliners were pretty good sets. I wonder if the reason Lego only released the large passenger airplane set in those years without a larger Airport line is the same as the reason why Lego has only released single pirate ships, castles, and trains without larger Pirates, Castle, and Trains lines in recent years: the large set (the big passenger jet, the big pirate ship, the big castle, and the complete train set) outsells the smaller sets by such a large margin that it's not worth the effort to make the rest of the line.

I’d like to see a Lego city airport similar to what they did with the harbour but have a 6 wide plane and a airport
