MaximillianRebo Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 (edited) I've always liked brick built creatures, especially the challenge of creating something animal shaped using bricks, and I'm happy to present my attempt at a brick built Ronto as seen in the Special Edition of A New Hope. Well, I should say 90% brick built, as the legs are obviously moulded pieces. The body of the Ronto is based on the Luggabeast from 75148 Encounter on Jakku so it made sense to include the legs from that creature as part of the build. The saddle is based on the one used on Ronto's in the Skywalker Saga Lego game. Instructions are here; one problem though is none of the leg pieces exist in Stud.io - if anyone knows of a way of adding parts 26269, 26270, 26271 & 26272 please let me know! I also built a swoop bike - the Mobquet Flare S Swoop - to recreate the Special Edition scene where the swoop rider scares a Ronto in the introduction to Mos Eisley. The ratchet connections on the Ronto legs made it easy to pose the creature in a rearing position. Edited August 17, 2024 by MaximillianRebo Quote
Mr Ogel Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 that's a very nice addition to every Mos Eisley scenery or to the Cantina Quote
FullBrickDev Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 This is very well exectuted! The legs are a good choice. Funnily enough, I haven't seen the special edition of a New Hope (unless I'm forgetting something) and therefore got confused why were you saying an animal from KOTOR was in a New Hope! Quote
Lordhelmet Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Awesome build and what a great combo set. Well done. Quote
Sentinel_Brix Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 This is perfect. I really like how the Ronto fits to minifigure scale. The head is really well built too! I have to check if these creature legs are available as second hand parts. Quote

Even though I grew up with the OT, I was surprised to find out that Rontos didn't appear until the 1997 Special Editions (at least that's what Wookiepedia says). In my mind they'd always been there... 6 hours ago, Sentinel_Brix said: This is perfect. I really like how the Ronto fits to minifigure scale. The head is really well built too! I went back and forth a bit trying to get the right scale between head and body, and also scale well with a minifigure; once I'd decided on using the moulded legs, that played a large part in deciding the overall scale of the build. I bought all the pieces for this from Bricklink, so the legs are definitely available. The only issue was adding them separately to the wanted list after importing the rest of the model from Studio; I just called up the parts list for 75148 and copied the part numbers from there. Quote

I immediately got the legs on ebay . All four legs for 3€. I think it's a bargain. I'll probably won't build the Ronto, but maybe another moc creature... 5 hours ago, MaximillianRebo said: That's exactly why I built it; needed to give more life to my Mos Eisley street scene. I'd love to see that! You have the full scene photographed? The swoop got a little bit shadowed by the amazing Ronto, but I'd like to add it's also a great design! Quote
jelockwood Posted May 9 Posted May 9 (edited) @MaximillianRebo Excellent models! I have been looking for a decent Ronto to include in a diorama. Would you be able to provide a complete parts list for each? [UPDATE - Found it on Rebrickable! see https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-191049/MaximillianBricks/ronto/#details ] I had hoped that Lego would make an official Ronto minifigure like the artwork shown on the following page. (Scroll down to find it.) However this has not happened despite there being as a relevant example an official Dewback minifigure. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/xDr6B4 Edited May 9 by jelockwood Added link to instructions Quote
