Mikdun Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) Same as above plus: the "Theme" switch on the bottom does nothing. I can choose one of the 4 available, but the look does not change. EDIT: ok, the picture on the top changes and some items fall apart, not sure what IS supposed to change. :-D Edited January 20 by Mikdun Quote

Will take some time to get used to this new design. A proper dark theme would be great, because with this mod I can barely distinguish the grey icons. I don't remember having to click twice to quote a post. Is this new with the checkmark and multiquotes? No, all fine and no hackers around - our vessel is safe and sound! For new themes it was a little bit like the egg-chicken equation - without the new version being layed out there was no real need for anybody to create new themes & also no testers for giving feedback. See the upgrade as the egg, from that the chickens, eh themes may arise.. 2 hours ago, Yoggington said: Looks great! Good work. May be a change from the vendor with their new themes we are based on. 1 hour ago, Mikdun said: Same as above plus: the "Theme" switch on the bottom does nothing. aFrInaTi0n Posted January 20 Author Posted January 20 @zinnn The forum software provider is in the last steps of upgrading their product to the next major release. So we have the uncertainty of the provider not offering a clear roadmap or estimated arrival of their major release. But as this major upgrade is inevitable all our until-then-done efforts will be rendered useless as I am expecting a complete rework to their theme. What I can tell already: Not all of the old themes will be recreated, as there are over ~140 or so - nobody may be able to handle this.. What may happen: SubForum Admins investing efforts to re-create the latest theme for the Theme SubForums. Pirates, StarWars to call some names.. From the theme-perspective we stepped into not-so-nice situation, but lets phrase it like this: I easily can overlook that for a certain amount of time in regard of higher security levels and a faster site. But I am still sorry for the inconveniences I created for your s (and others) eyes. best regards @SNIPE meh, I think the input box is still bugged for me - so right now I am not sure if this may be unresolved yet.. aFrInaTi0n Posted January 20 Author Posted January 20 Not sure if this was possible in the old version as I never tried that out before. So I reckon "yes"?! Thanks for pointing out! We may fine tune the configuration over the next days & weeks Quote

2GodBDGlory Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) Fun to have a tweaked UI, and all seems to be working well! One thing I noticed is that the (can't remember the official wording) moderator-assigned nicknames that certain people had been given under their names are no longer there. Is that something that will be re-added eventually? Also, and I think you mentioned something about these, but my special tags are now showing up in a vertical column instead of a horizontal row, which is a somewhat awkward look, I think. Thanks for your work! Edited January 20 by 2GodBDGlory Quote

Yeah, some icons are still missing there, and yes you are right, the design was switched to have one icon per row -> we may also adjust this back to the old. Quote
Murdoch17 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) @aFrInaTi0n I thought we were going ad-less in January? I'm getting a metric ton of ads, even with ad blocker on. Google analytics and so on are being blocked by Privacy Badger (my ad blocker), but I'm still seeing ads, which shouldn't be possible. Thoughts? Edited January 20 by Murdoch17 Quote
Takanuinuva Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Two questions regarding this change. 1. Why does everything look like it's zoomed out slightly? 2. How do I hide top posters in a topic? I'd rather not have it cluttering up a forum I'm reading. Quote
Yoggington Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Minor issue, in the old version there was the functionality where you could click on the header to return to the main view of the forums. i.e. clicking anywhere in this area (from any page) was the equivalent of clicking the 'forums' tab also in picture. [img]https://i.imgur.com/wJCzEgH.jpeg[/img] Not major as I said, but muscle memory is difficult to retrain. Also it would seem bbcode for img tags aren't how they used to be. Quote

If so -> I possibly only dreamed about back in my endevours of testing this was configureable in the Backend - but my memories may be wrong here. We may check & decide in the staff to hack the box on the right out of the views. 28 minutes ago, Yoggington said: Minor issue, in the old version there was the functionality where you could click on the header to return to the main view of the forums. i.e. clicking anywhere in this area (from any page) was the equivalent of clicking the 'forums' tab also in picture. Which Ads are you still seeing? Quote
JesseNight Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) Nice job, and very happy with the dark mode! One small thing, the quoted text blocks still seem to have a rather light gray background (with white text), can this be set darker gray? It applies to some other blocks as well like the bar underneath the quick reply with the attachments interface. One other thing I noticed about dark mode is that every page loads in light mode first, then switches to dark mode. Side effect from going with cookies rather than a theme? You can simply paste the image url and it will show up as an image. Not sure if that helps. 3 hours ago, dr_spock said: Is this a new feature? Post now and register later. That's interesting. Calanon Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Everything is... marginally bigger now? And there's a night mode switch, nice. Alas, it has broken the images on a (old!) tutorial I had been learning from, luckily I think I'm not too in need of them now. Quote

And those are the ones we really need to generate some sort of revenue. But those Ads weren't enough to pay the bill for the old hosting, so we turned on the Auto Ads in AdSense (Well, Google did that for us automatically). Those Ads showed up at the top and bottom of the site blocking some of the content. They were really nasty and we got rid of them since the update yesterday. But we will still keep the on at the bottom and the two on the sides, because they are not intrusive and they generate a baseline of income for hosting. Maybe the Ad blocker doesn't recognize them anymore. Not sure how your blocker works. But I'm sure you will find out. 12 minutes ago, Calanon said: Alas, it has broken the images on a (old!) tutorial I had been learning from, luckily I think I'm not too in need of them now. dr_spock Posted January 20 Posted January 20 There is an option to "insert image from URL" in the "Other Media" button if pasting the image URL didn't automatically work in the editor. Quote
