This combo really looks astonishing! Thank you ! That is an amazing contribution to the community! You did way better than TLG marketing team, because now I am convinced to buy both 42175 and 42209 :) In fact, This MOC is the reason why I might get two 42175 :) https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-194775/Dyens Creations/heavy-duty-bulldozer-42175-excavator-rebuild/#details Quote

And thanks to @Ngoc Nguyen to share the model of 42175 with me. That MOC is pretty darn good for an in scale bulldozer. Quote

2GodBDGlory Posted May 4 Posted May 4 That is shockingly gear-dense! Very, very cool. Probably something I'll try putting together from my collection once instructions are out Quote
SNIPE Posted May 9 Posted May 9 (edited) I just put together the real parts to build this, I have like 98% of them, so can't wait to start building it Edited May 9 by SNIPE Quote

Yes, but I don't have any of the UCS creator expert bat-mobile tires so I'm using these. I'm also using 4 smaller buckets to make the new bucket tha's in this set. Edited May 9 by SNIPE Quote
Maaboo the Witch Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Why is there a shovel on the side of this thing? It looks ridiculous and isn't even accurate. Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted May 12 Author Posted May 12 While the Technic complexity surely satisfies many gearheads, in terms of appearance the model isnt quite satisfactory. The proportions are quite off. Quote

Maaboo the Witch Posted May 12 Posted May 12 (edited) It's that flattened cab as well. Makes it look like a Dickie toy. Plus, the front mudguards are yellow, when they should plainly be black. That has just slapped me in the face like a wet fish. EDIT: Some versions of the L120 Electric do have yellow mudguards, so I'll retract that. Edited May 12 by Maaboo the Witch Quote

With some black parts below the cabin, the proportions virtually would have been better. But neither can I explain the yellow front mudguard... Also, it seems Volvo machines' cabins are a bit hard to replicate (here too short, at 42114 too stretched) Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted May 12 Author Posted May 12 Just now, Jockos said: 42114 too stretched I think this deformation is purely because the cabin has to accomodate the smart hub behind it. Otherwise there's no difficulty in raising the nose and shortening the cab. Quote

The proportions are quite off. *snip* *snip* Considering the small scale and some of the absolute goofball sets we've gotten in the past, I think the proportions here are alright. I reckon the cab height problem can be solved pretty easily by replacing some of the yellow pieces with black ones to bring the black colour lower, see quick and dirty edit below: The only other thing would be having a new tyre mould for the 30.4x20 rims, rather than what they went with here. Alternatively, you could swap the yellow wheels for black ones, and add some sort of 4-stud diameter yellow hub assembly to make the rims look smaller. Edited May 13 by Bartybum Quote
2GodBDGlory Posted May 13 Posted May 13 7 hours ago, Timewhatistime said: When the battery is empty, but the job has to be finished... Haha! I mean, maybe it's not typical for a loader to carry a shovel, but in my construction experience I've had times where the boss would get the dirt in position with an excavator, and I'd spread it out manually with shovel and rake, so heavy equipment and basic shovels can work well together. Unbrickme Posted May 14 Posted May 14 This is the front loader of 2009, set number 8265 . I think the 2009 version was a bit superior. It contained a distribution gearbox, which is missing from the new model. It also had motor upgradeability with power functions. Also included normal size linear actuators instead of the small ones, and also because it's not electric, also included an engine. New one is $120 and the 2009 one retailed for $80, which is $120 adjusted for inflation, so they're the same price. New one does have the advantage of that cool new bucket piece though Quote
Cypr-21 Posted May 14 Posted May 14 The 8265 offered a very poor playability due to the standard LA (in manual version, for $80). So you had to buy the 8293 box ($30) to have a decent playbility (I said decent, not better, because it was impossible to combine arm and bucket movements, due to the gearbox). And this gearbox was only here in order to power the model with only one motor. If you correctly open your eyes, you will see 2 differentials on the 42209 and an electric motor under the bonnet. Auroralampinen Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Well, since we are comparing this to older models. I think this set scale, matches perfectly with the 8459 front end loader. The 8459 had pneumatics and 4x4 with v6 and air tank:). Quote
allanp Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Yup. 8459 is better than both 8265 and 42209. Everything from the pneumatics and the little extra effort put into a working steering wheel that's slightly tilted towards the driver (something even the "UCS" 1:8 cars still can't do, apparently), to the overall clean design, shaping of the cab and lack of colour vomit. 42209 looks to be a fairly complex design for it's size but the final product just isn't anywhere near as appealing. Quote
ChrisRodrigues Posted May 14 Posted May 14 (edited) 8459 (1997) was so good that it was re-released in 2001 and 2004 (8464 / 8439). If LEGO releases 8459 again I would buy it together with 42209 Edited May 14 by ChrisRodrigues Quote
Auroralampinen Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Its kind of fun to think, that this is the fifth lego volvo wheel loader. And its interesting, that all lego volvo loaders have similar piece count(except the polybag) . And 42030 and 42081 have dumper as b model. And the 42053 had L30G as b model :). Here is piece count:). 42030, 1635pcs 42053, 1166pcs 42081, 1167psc 30433, 69pcs 42209, 973pcs My opinion the best looking, 1, 42209 2, 42081 3, 42030 and 42053 b model 4, 30433 And, one thing common with the volvo loaders. Is that almost all have bucket stickers. Exept the 42053 b model. And the 42215 has also bucket stickers. Yaay;). Picture comparison:). 42030, A and B models. 42053, A and B models. 42081, A and B models. 30433. 42209. Quote
