Is it though? If they are charging you NZ GST on items which are included in a single package with a total value of less than $400 or so, they shouldn't be. Such a package sent from offshore is exempt from GST. If their pricing doesn't change depending on the total value of your order, then they are not charging people correctly.

I think that they mean that the GST is included because the prices they charge is the exact same as the local toy store prices. However, I agree with you, it is highly questionable and very unlikely that a foreign website will collect GST on behalf the NZ Govt and that they will send the 15% of the sales value to the IRD... Maybe they have an agreement and that is the reason why their pricing is much higher than the US Lego.com ? I previously thought was that their pricing is for NZ Lego sales protection, as it would be difficult for Lego to undercut toy store prices for direct sales as the toy stores are their biggest customers, if you know what I mean...

Yeah, I've never encountered an offshore online retailer that claims to pay NZ GST on your behalf before. S@H is likely just matching the RRP for obvious reasons. Or maybe they do have an agreement with the tax man?

There is an easy way to know: if anyone here has had a parcel from S@H held by customs pending duty and fees, then TLG is not including local taxes in their pricing.

Also, a wee woohoo for good people on TM: a trader I purchased from before xmas has sent two more parcels with recovered pieces, and my $170 Dropship with AT-OT is now 99.5% complete.

I have in-counted online Retailers charging for import duties and taxes on purchases when I lived in the UK and was buying items from the states. The money was payed direct from the Retailer to the shipping company so that when the parcel got to Customs it went straight on to the purchaser with out any hassles. This was because they had in-counted customers that did not want to pay what was due on the items so it could not be released and caused a big muck fest as the item was held in Customs or, it had to be shipped back to the Retailer at someones expense.

This is possibly what is happening here with this.

If you go to

http://service.lego.com/en-US/HelpTopics/default.aspx?folderID=40

you will see that Lego collect all duties for which ever country that they ship to, not just NZ.

Heya all. Just a couple of things here.

Duties are a different thing from GST. NZ does not charge duty on toys imported to NZ.

GST is payable on pretty much everything you buy. (Music downloads and other electronic downloads are the only exceptions I can think of just now) there is no magical $400 limit on GST, they just wont chase it up if its under that. This was called a "gift allowance" where they assume anything under that value was a gift.

(Originally back in the good ole 80s, You had to send Cash in the post to order from overseas, and have them wrap your purchases up in giftwrap to avoid the import duties that we had before GST. The Internet rocks!)

Lego.com will be paying the GST legitimately so those packages that Customs gobbled up were obviously a bit of a woopsie on Lego/Customs part. (When you make a purchase you should notice they give you a GST number... handy if you make your living with Lego, so you can claim it back)

Cheers!

Callum

The magical $399 limit for GST does actually exist in law.

So many nice sets to try and decide which one gets my very limited 'income' since I am still looking for work.

EDIT: Some of the City sets were missing after reading some reviews on the forum, so edited my mistake

Righto, Yeah, thats definately pretty steep.

I showed Bunnings that the Warehouse had them for $20 (They beat anywhere by 15%) so I ended up buying 10 sets of 4 at $17 each at Bunnings. They're completely modular, and the drawers are removeable. Here's a picture:

*snip*

Thanks for the info and taking those pictures. The drawers are these ones (scroll down). They are standard stock item for Bunnings. However, none of the Wellington stores have any in white (my preferred colour), nor can they order them in :sceptic:

No problemo. It might be worth checking your local Warehouses too, They've just put them 30% off, now $14. You can also buy them online here: Warehouse Online

Best of luck man, They're a perfect product for Lego sorting IMO, I'm chuffed with mine :classic:

Up in Kaiteriteri on holiday at the moment, and just noticed that Farmers in Richmond has 2010 City too

The Warehouse newest mailer is advertising over 40 new Lego lines in store now.

Wonder if they are getting ready for the 2012 Lego.

Does anyone have any insight into what is coming in the next months, like the very details list on page 180 (ish) for 2011.

Thanks for the tip - I cleaned out all but one from my local Warehouse this evening. Today was the last day of the sale anyway. :innocent:

Mosgiel Warehouse was just putting out 2012 City and Ninjago sets - they had the Ninjago Spinners and Booster Sets, small Fire Truck ($10) and the two small Creator Sets ($13) out with heap of boxes on a pallet.

The Warehouse online has 2012 sets listed.

Few additonal Ninjago sets that I didn't see at Toyworld the other day - 9562, 9558 and 9444

Prices for some of the sets are between $1 and $4 cheaper than RRP.

Moore Wilson's in Wellington have some City sets. Picked up 4431 Ambulance, 4432 Rubbish truck and 4434 Tipper truck for $34 each (RRP elsewhere is $39.99)

Indeed.

There's something weird about S@H pricing - charging full RRP which supposedly includes a 'sales tax'... Got this reply from them when asking about pricing: "In each country we have to pay Taxes on products and it is not about LEGO. This is about the Government issues. We wish we could refund the Sales Tax but we are not allowed to do so." Jeez, they so DON'T care about customers...

Not to mention that they included a wrong invoice with the shipment, stating a lower price than was actually charged with all of contact details on it being false!

Still don't know what happens when you buy a set worth over $400, do you pay customs when it arrives to NZ or not - does anyone have any experience with that? I would think not, as it seems to get repacked in Auckland before it is actually shipped to your address.

I wish there was a proper NEW ZEALAND Lego online store  Guess I'll have to stick with Toyworld

p.s.: Hi guys

Yup, Lego is most of the time overpriced there (and it hilarious to see people on TM sometimes advertising those prices as retail :sceptic:) but its worth checking it out every now and then...

I've been looking for City of Atlantis and Fishpond had it for $100 with free shipping a couple of months ago, which I thought was a good deal. The only other shop I could find it at the time was ToyPlanet...

Does anyone know how come some sets aren't supplied to physical stores? I asked at Toyworld Dunedin about it, can't remember what they said though, probably that they will receive City of Atlantis sometime this year, but it is peculiar that they stock Portal of Atlantis released in 2010, which has been 50% off for a while now but that there hasn't been a trace of City of Atlantis yet (or maybe it is already sold out and I missed it, but I doubt that) - why are some sets delayed and others not? For instance, a few months ago they received Pet Shop (2011), Imperial Shuttle (2010), Tower Bridge (2010) and Imperial Flagship (2010) all at the same time...
