Guss Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I'm not into train at all, so I chose town. but I'm not a really really great fan of town too^^ I'll say that I think they come together, a train without anything like a town around don't make sense, and the addition of a train to a town is always nice to see, so I think they're inseparable ^^ But , to me, that's not my two favourites themes ! ( just watch my mocs, I just built 2 buildings, 3 cars , a truck and a town vignette, all my other mocs are in other themes! ) Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Personally I feel Trains are as part of Towns as road plates so I am undecided. Certainly collecting Train theme sets without any Town sets for background seems weird to me. As regards set quality, I think in the past the Train sets have usually been better than those of the Town. Quote
Ralph_S Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 (edited) I suppose that most people who build trains also like town, because a train layout without any buildings is a bit dull. I like to travel on the train and I can understand why they have some appeal to builders, but I've never really felt the desire to build any. Steam trains are kind of neat, but they have no business being in a modern town and modern trains utterly fail to interest me. In fact, when I bought the Hobby train and Holiday train sets last year (when both were on sale on shop@home) I parted them out and sold the train bits (couplings, wheels) to another Brickish member. With the advent of the Power Functions car chassis, Town builders can now reduce their dependency on "Hand of God" for vehicle movements. This is a bit more like trains in operation. IMO the Power functions car chassis is too big for minifigs by about a factor two and in most minifig town layouts would look ridiculous. Cheers, Ralph Edited May 6, 2009 by Ralph_S Quote
legofan Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 oh... What a hard choice... Well, i chose Town more because i love the streets and the beautiful buildings that Lego has created so beautifully these few years... And it is soso fun to display your minifigs walking around ur streets, emulating the city life u can see in real life everyday... However, it wiuld be so nice to add a train layout into your town... Right now, my poor lego population has to resort to either walking, cycling or riding 'illegally' atop roof tops of cars.... Quote
Razzer Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 For me it has to be town/city as making city buildings is the only MOCing that I'm good at, at the moment (definately need to increase vehicle building skills.) Quote
MatthewUSA Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Decisions, decisions, decisions! If I could have, I would have chosen both. I personally feel that trains & town go hand-in-hand. Trains is basically a part of Town if you really think about it. I have been a "Townie" for the past 24 years and added Trains to the mix when TLG released the 9V system. I voted Trains here because I have also been a railfan for just as long. Remember, trucks aren't the only way to carry goods to and from the Town, you also need TRAINS!! Model On!! Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Definitely town, for the sheer compatibility. I.E. most licensed themes, some history/adventure, some "other" themes, and, yes, even some SW. In my books, its towns for the win! Quote
Ricecracker Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I definitely have to go with town. I've always been a town guy, and always will. Don't get me wrong, I do like train, and own at least three full sets, and two separate train cars, but town just has so many more possibilities. I think it may be due in part to the fact that I don't live near any trains, but live near a lot of "city". Quote
MarcusV3 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I'm a city fan but I think trains are cool too and they fit right in with the town so I don't really have to choose between them much. But in this case town is definitely #1 Quote
