gogoba Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Hi, I'm thinking of buying the above set, and I wondered what the forum view on it was. I bought 7037 Tower Raid at the weekend, and I think it's great little set, how does 7094 compare to it? Are there other older castle type sets that are better? The medieval market village set looks like good value, but I really need a centrepeice castle set. Thanks, Quote
Etzel Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I think it's a great set, lots of useful, ordinary parts that are important to make Castle MOCs. Arches, wall pieces, big doors and many 1*X light bley bricks. The design of the set isn't bad either, sure the little tower that defies gravity isn't a favourite but the rest reminds me of the classic castle era of the 80's. Minifigs are ok IMO, good to have a king if you haven't got any before and the soldiers are good too. I'm not a big fan of skeletons and certainly not of the "Duplo"-Dragon I think that Tower Raid is a slightly better set than King's Castle Siege but if your looking for a large castle with new colours (like light bley and reddish brown) 7094 is the set to get. But I really recommend you to get the Medieval Market Village as well if can afford it. Those two sets complement each other really good. Quote
Yloquen Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I like it. Here are a few thoughts on it: - Crownies minifigs are nice. There's a decent amount of them and also a few skeletons. - Good piece/price ratio. Mostly useful parts, but also some which I don't like a lot - namely the windowed wall piece, the half octagon turret top, and the BURPs (though some clever people have found good use even for them :). - Dragon is mediocre for me but still it's nice to have at least one. - Wide selection of basic pieces in good colors - most are lt bluish gray. Nothing kiddish like some older sets (most notably KK). - The build is interesting and easy. The castle is modular so it has high play value, also it is fully enclosed (should you wish to build it so). Overall - if you don't already have a large set of parts, I think it's worth it. Quote
soc399 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 (edited) I also really like the King's Castle Siege, and I agree that a town needs a centerpiece castle. Here is my town built around 7094 and the MMV: The castle really holds it together, although the MMV has more pieces for the money, including some really great stuff like the turkey and all the fish. brickzone Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 One consideration may be cost - KCS is €100. I've bought old castles (used of course) for anything from €30 (Mountain Fortress with one or two substitutions that I fixed) to €50 (Black Knight's Castle, King's Castle). Also while many like old grey, you may want to consider whether having more new grey will be more useful if that's what you intend to get more of in the future. Also you can at this stage get used KCS. Quote
Guss Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I bought the 7094 last week ( my GF offered it ^^ ) , and I think it's a very useful and cool set, here is the "review gallery" of it if you want to : http://guss.teammu.com/modules/extgallery/...lbum.php?id=118 Quote
Batbrick Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I too think it is a great set. I've been told lots of bley doesn't look good for Castles but I think it looks fine, and it comes with a variety of very useful pieces and minifigs. Also, when put next to other sets of the theme, it looks even better. Batbrick Away! Quote
Stash2Sixx Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 7094 is an all around good castle. It's simple, to the point, and basic, with plenty of figures. MMV is a better buy, personally, but I understand where you are coming from; you need a castle. If you have a few $$$ to burn, along with some time, why not rebuild an older castle with new pieces. That would definitely give you a 'standout' castle! But yeah, go buy it, it's a good set; size, cost, bricks, and figures. Quote
The Cobra Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 The first castle I ever bought, and probably the only one I ever will (there's never enough space to put all the Lego you'd like to buy). It was on sale for Christmas 2007 so I grabbed it for 50 Euros instead of 100, and that helps a lot in liking a set. I think it's worth the money. First, the box was HEAVY, that makes you think it's not the usual oversized Lego box, but it's full of pieces! There's the big dragon, some crownies and some skellies, the king, the drawbridge, the removable wall on one of the sides, the towers, a sort of prison and so on. To put it shortly, it has most everything you would expect from a castle. Plus, it can host minifigs from impulse/small sets. The only downpoints to me were: 1) no basplates, just plates. 2) only one horse and no skellie horses. But there were plenty of them in small sets like the Final Joust or the Crossbow attack. Quote
Dadster Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Yeah - the Cobra (and others) have summed it all up. That being said, there are still a slew of these at the local TRU's and (I think) the Lego Store, so if you can - maybe wait for the prices to go down a bit. Quote
Archaonus Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 You should really buy it ...it is awesome set...if u want to make a village you really need a castle Quote
Perterz Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Yes it's really worth its money, lots off usefull pieces, it's sort off modular, lots off possibilities to expand and change, great minifigs and accesoires. When these go on sale again I'd probably buy me a second one. Go and buy it while you still can! Quote
