sok117 Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Anyone see the two recent episodes of Young Justice? Cold Hearted A great Wally-centric episode. I was a bit unimpressed with the double fake out of "the girl is dead" then she is alive then "the girl is dead". Holy moly that was way to many tugs at my heart strings. Overall though I was really happy with it! Image Okay this was a really weird episode. The beginning was a giant WTF moment, but then I started laughing along with Green Arrow. That was a real attention grabber! The rest of the episode was pretty good too, except it focused a lot more on Megan and her fears rather then the actual mission which I guess is okay considering the episode was called "Image", Megan's back story was also really funny to watch. In my opinion Young Justice is turning out to be an awesome series! Hundred times better then Legion of Superheroes which was the last teen DC show. Quote
Aanchir Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 So who else saw Legend of Korra last weekend on KorraNation.com? It's no longer up unfortunately, but they premiered the first two episodes there early as a reward for getting above a certain threshold in Facebook likes/shares. The series will be making its official television premiere on April 15, and I'm very excited from the episodes I've seen so far. The series has so much potential and I can't wait to see what kind of fun is in store. Quote

For my review of the new Regular Show episode, Videogame Wizard: Okay episode. Being a retro gamer, I liked the numerous Power Glove references "It's sooo bad. Rigby was an annoying jerk in this episode, and the plot was predictable. I give it a 7.75/10. For the newest MLP episode, Ponyville Confidential: Another cute episode. The episode seemed longer than it was, which is a good thing. I'm getting annoyed of the fan service, though. I'm kinda bummed (confirmed for Ponyville ) that Fluttershy had no speaking parts. Overall, I give the episode an 7.5/10. Edited April 7, 2012 by just2good Quote
Oky Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 The first one and a half episodes of Korra are now available on Nick.com. Great stuff. It has a very different feel than ATLA and yet it's just as enjoyable and fits into the Avatarverse perfectly! Same outstanding animation, same good writing, same great humor, same awesome action, etc. The metal benders are pretty cool, and so are the pro-benders. Finally a prominent sport in the Avatar world! There was lots of fan service too. Gotta love that nod to the Zuko's mother thing. The only thing that bothers me a bit is that the show seems a little rushed. Within the first two episodes, the protagonist is already settled in at a whole new city, is already learning the last kind of bending she needs to know, and is enrolled in a professional sports team. I wish they would have taken their time with this show like they did with ATLA, but on the other hand, I guess this way the shows reflects the personality of the main character. Ultimate Spider-Man turned out to be pretty good too. It's campier than I expected, but that's not necessarily a bad thing since I was laughing out loud several times during the two pilot episodes thanks to the very random, Family Guy style cut-away gags. The animation is good (admittedly better than Spectacular Spider-Man) and the story is promising. I'm curious to see how it pans out. The latest Young Justice episodes are pretty good too as they do seem to be getting darker and deeper. Haven't gotten around to watching Green Lantern and Thundercats yet. South Park is funny as usual. As for the latest MLP episodes, they were alright. Hurricane Fluttershy was pretty darn adorable and a much better episode than the Iron Will one. Even the CMC episode last weekend was more bearable than usual since the Mane 6 and other characters got a decent amount of screen time, and I actually felt bad for the CMC. They sure are getting desperate, aren't they? Quote
just2good Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 (edited) Man, the MLP episodes are getting more disappointing every episode. For the newest episode MMMystery on the Friendship Express This episode was meh. I didn't laugh (except at the Rarity-eyelash part), and the plot was predictable and a bit rushed. The new characters were generic and barely utilized. I feel like Hasbro is putting in too much pop-culture aspects into the episodes. Mulia Miles? Really? Overall, I give this episode a 7.25/10. iamded Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I finally managed to see the first 2 episodes of The Legend of Korra in 720p, and they were glorious! I am so excited for this series. I'm overjoyed that they managed to retain that quality and sense of awesomeness from the original Avatar series, I was worried that The Legend of Korra wouldn't live up to it, but it entirely did. I have high expectations for this series. I'm also beginning to get into this whole crazy thing called 'anime'... Yes, I got a few anime series from some friends and have been giving them a watch. I'm starting with Samurai Champloo, with Cowboy Bebop and Death Note lined up for after. I'm also quite interested in the Hellsing Ultimate series, but after watching the 'abridged' versions I think I'd be disappointed. I highly recommend anime fans give them a watch, there's only 2 episodes at 10 and 15 minutes each, and they're damn hilarious. Hey, I'll even for ya. Quote

I have not yet checked out Legend of Korra, as I am too worried that it will fail to meet expectations. I have heard a lot of good things about the first two episodes, but I worry that the formula has changed too much. Not that I am against the tech, the rate of advancements makes sense to me. But an aggressive Avatar just feels wrong to me, especially after so much time with Aang. I will still watch it of course. I would suggest you check out Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, as it is the single greatest creation in the history of mankind. Some might say that is a little to strong, but it was the only Anime I really got into. It just made me feel so...alive. I can't describe it better than that, but I firmly recommend checking it out. And so Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes returned, and I was met with disappointment that the voiceover still covers up the opening theme. Still, Doom was awesome. Quote
viracocha Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I have ssn a lot of anime but the GTO still stays the best for me! Quote

I don't want to over-hype it, but trust me when I say it doesn't disappoint. Give it a watch already. I would suggest you check out Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, as it is the single greatest creation in the history of mankind. Alright, thanks, I'll take your word for that. I've definitely heard of Fullmetal Alchemist before, and Brotherhood has been mentioned to me previously, so I'll add it to the list. I've also heard mention of Code Geass and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Has anyone here seen them and can tell me if it's worth watching, and where I should start with each series? Quote

Yeah my sister is trying to get me to look at Korra too, and I am interested too. I tried to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion once, but it wasn't too appealing to me. The pace seemed kind of off, and I couldn't really get into it. From what I hear the ending was kind of a mind-screw also. I think the Rebuild of Evangelion is said to make more sense, but I am not an expert. Quote
just2good Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 (edited) I'm done reviewing Regular Show. The episodes got too... regular. I finally got around to seeing TLoK. Here are my thoughts on the first episode. Like the original, the animation and score was beautiful. The exposition was pretty well done, too. Each character seemed interesting. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Republic City. The episode felt a bit rushed though. One thing I definitely want to see more of are the Equalists, which I'm curios on how they are going to affect upcoming episodes. Overall, I give Welcome to Republic City a 9.25/10. It was a great series opener. Now for the second episode, A Leaf in the Wind. An above solid episode here. At first I thought it was going to be a filler, but it proved me wrong halfway through. It introduced some interesting new characters, and I look forward to seeing more of them. I give it an 8.5/10. Edited April 17, 2012 by just2good Quote
Peppermint_M Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 iamded, from the excellent anime you listed I would reccomend The Big O (ha ha, silly name yeah yeah) same sort of style and was the anime that got me into anime in a big way. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 Yup, watched that back in January. Epic Win. Also the reason for my recent Car MOC kick... Quote

Cheers Peppy, I'll add it to the list. I finished up Samurai Champloo and saw the first episode of Cowboy Bebop. Looks to be interesting, the basic theme reminds me a tad of Firefly (being space cowboys and all). I really enjoyed Samurai Champloo. I very much liked the characters of Mugen and Jin, although I may be biased with Mugen since I'm a huge fan of Steve Blum. It was a good series and I'm glad to have discovered it. Quote

Firefly took it's cues from Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star. Maybe why I only ever watched it once and now can't be bothered to ever again.... Wolfs Rain is another good one, bit different but nevertheless a decent watch. Quote

Well I did love Firefly, so I'll jump on Cowboy Bebop and ad Outlaw Star to the list. Wolfs Rain sounds interesting, on the list it goes. I should have known to go straight to Peppy for advise about anime. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 7 years experience (Oh my word, I am so old now! I shouldn't clearly recall things from 7 years!!) Let me know what you think of those and I can supply another bunch Quote
CM4Sci Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 My review of the new MLP episode - "A Canterlot Wedding" WOW. Best episode ever. The songs were great, the Changelings were hideous. Just..blech. LUNA! Talking Colgate and Lyra, Vinyl, the whole plot, everything was amazing. Bad thing is, we need to wait another 6 months for new episodes! :c -Sci Quote
just2good Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 For both parts of the season closer of MLP, A Canterlot Wedding. Great episodes. The music from each was phenomenal, and I really found the 'Sibling Song' relatable (my relationship with my brother ). The new characters were interesting, and I liked how they used Luna. The ending did seem a bit cheesy and predictable, but that's okay. Overall, I give the episode a 9.5/10. Quote
Oky Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Not sure why everyone's posting in spoilers, but anyway: The MLP:FiM Season 2 finale sure was nice. The songs were indeed great (they even had hidden meanings!) and even though the plot was super cheesy and predictable, it was better than I expected. The whole thing felt like a little Disney movie and there were nice bits throughout. I cracked up when Pinkie used Twi as a laser cannon! I was a little concerned that some parts might have been a bit scary for little kids, but then again, kids are much more desensitized these days than you'd think. Personally, I didn't like the villain very much since she was gloating and exposing her plan way too much, but it could have been worse. Overall a nice end to a pretty good season. Looking back, the first three episodes of this season were the best for me. Which were your favorite(s)? You know, it's funny; ever since I started watching this show I have become aware just how many characters Tara Strong voices! It feels like I hear her whatever cartoon I watch! In one of the recent episodes of Green Lantern, she voiced a purple-haired princess, and I kept thinking that Hal Jordan was talking to Twilight! Is anybody else watching Ultimate Spider-Man (which also features Tara Strong by the way)? I kinda like it; the animation is pretty good and some of the jokes are funny, but it feels like they're putting too much emphasis on the jokes. Anybody agree? Quote
LEGOman273 Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I watched LoK yesterday, and it made me wonder about some things: 1. Mako and Bolin's parents were killed by a Firebender. As were Amon's parents. Either the script writers forgot to pre-roll out the ones (1=A Firebender kills your parents), or there is some connection. 2. Amon displays powers (taking away Bending power) that have only belonged to the Avatar. Could he be Aang? The intro says that Aang is "gone", not dead, though death was mentioned at least twice in that one episode. Again, I see some type of connection. Could there be more than one Avatar? (If Aang were resurected somehow, would he retain his powers, or would they have been passed down to Korra?) Quote
Peppermint_M Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 Tara Strong is everywhere, I've got an ear for voices and it makes things very funny sometimes (Shining Armor the Super Duper Sumo anyone? Flim the Stormhawk and Dark Ace?) So there we go Quote

Flim the Stormhawk and Dark Ace?) So there we go I've started hearing Steve Blum everywhere. His voice is so iconic, you hear a character speak and you know straight away, "Yep, that's Steve Blum". I first started picking it up after hearing him in several video games (Call of Duty, Bulletstorm, Dead Island), and then the first two anime series I start watching - Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop - he voices a main character. He's got quite the filmography, he does... Quote

My favorite episode from season 2 of MLP:FiM was either Sisterhooves Social, because I really can relate to sibling difficulties and it was a very heartfelt episode through-and-through, or Ponyville Confidential, because it's nice to see an episode related to media ethics, and it was one of the best CMC episodes in my opinion. Tara Strong is everywhere, I've got an ear for voices and it makes things very funny sometimes (Shining Armor the Super Duper Sumo anyone? Flim the Stormhawk and Dark Ace?) This blog on BZPower includes a hilarious audio mashup of quotes from Jaller and Shining Armor, along with a list of MLP voice actors who were in the BIONICLE movies. Quote
