Lol what happened to all the hate of Z's back in '08?

Anywho, eh, doesn't look like I'll be getting those two. ._.

Not liking the Rahkshi spine, and the other yellow pieces are those neato hands and feet.

I like how they changed Nektann. First time we're getting fat Av-toran limbs in that color, right?

Spine is eh again.

So if Nektann is the blue Piraka, why does it say "Piraka" and not "Nektann" on the packaging?

because it probably wasn't quite decided then, and besides that, I think the villain sets are supposed to be non-descript to suggest more than one of each exists in the coming story

Most likely because the Piraka were the ones who sold well, not Nektann. So it would make sense to market him as such.

Skrall and Rahkshi I understand, but not so many blue Piraka exist. In fact only one. :P

So it would make sense to market him as such.

But Nektann isn't a Piraka....

No he is not, but Piraka is a familiar name with fans. and those who it's not familiar with don't care. So like I said. It's worth putting on the container that he is, even though technically he is not. And I wouldn't be surprised if Greg simply made him a "Piraka" so the fans wouldn't be as confused >.<

Way to fudge it up Greg.

According to Greg it was a decision from the marketers up in Denmark to call the set Piraka instead of Skakdi or Nektann, because Piraka is the name that most fans know as the sets that sold well in 2006, not just the more serious fans like us.

But its retcon. And not a minor one. :P

As Bink has said earlier, the Marketing team decided to put the Bad guys Faction name, since, after all, that's what you're going to search. People knows the "team" name, not the individual one. Every BIONICLE fan knows what a Piraka is, not every BIONICLE fan knows what a Skakdi is or who Nektann is.

Posted
In a way, all Skakdi are Piraka by nature.

Also, wouldn't it be not too far off to assume that Nektann decided to lead our favorite gang of thugs after Zaktan's death?

(Likely gaining leadership by forceful means.)

Well, the other Piraka are transformed, and they have no way of leaving the island they are jailed on.

Posted
of course, Piraka could easily become a popular gang name that is quickly adopted by other Skakdi after the original Piraka are no more

Or the set designers couldn't give crap about what happens in the story so long as it sells units.

But not by title. ;)

Agreed.

Is it really that big of a deal? I mean, it's just the set's name. It's not affecting the story in any way.

Exactly, just admit that these are the best impulses we've had since 2007 and move on.

I guess so, but I wouldn't be surprised if those words end up being used interchangably to describe those particular beings.

...And this is what Greg will say to those who question the name.

Well really when you think about it, Nektann could easily be called by the title of "Piraka". He's a warlord, meaning he's had to have killed and stolen things in the past. Likely lots of things. So he's probably even been called 'Piraka' as a profanity by plenty of people before.
