Joey Lock Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Ahoy! I was thinking of getting a Ipod Touch for christmas but I can't decide which one to get. I was originally and my stil be going to get a 8GB one because its the cheapest, And my family have already gotten me lots of stuff, Or so they say. So I have a original limit of £100 although I can try persuade a bit more. So anyway, Is it better to get a 8GB or 32GB. Because Im not sure whether eventually Im going to put movies, lots of apps e.t.c. When I search the question people say 32GB would be better but its quite a bit more expensive. They say 32GB runs faster, has Voice Control (Which I like the look of) and more space. However the 8GB is around £130-50 retail, but you can get it abroad for around £110-130. And you can get the 32GB retail for about £190-230. But from abroad I could find one for £165-180. I just want to know whether I should pay the extra £50-60 for more space, Voice Control and Mic/remote-headphones? Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Well 8 GB can't hold much movies, i think you'd be better of getting the 32GB. Or can you expand the memory in time? Quote
Derek Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I'm pretty sure the voice control is for the iPhone... Quote
Joey Lock Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 I'm pretty sure the voice control is for the iPhone... Nope, For the new 32GB and 64GB Ipod Touch 3rd Generation Quote
Skipper 24 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I would choose the 32GB. The 8GB still runs the old hardware and so you says is slower. Also all those apps are going to take up space! Quote

Also all those apps are going to take up space! Ill get the 32GB. But can you order from Amazon.com, buy it at the price of £167 and get it shipped to England without having to have to pay the Amazon.co.uk Price? Because from the US you can get the 32GB for £167 and over here its £205. Huge increase in price, For nothing. So can you order from .com and get it the low price to the UK? Quote
Big Cam Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 having owned an 8gig ipod touch and selliong it to get the new 32gig i[pd touch, let me just say, get the 32gig. You will eventually put movies on it and you'll thank yourself later, plus it's faster, and the new software helps with that. For the extra money you'll be much happier with your purchase. Quote
prateek Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 If you have the money I say go for the 32GB. Quote

But what I really need to know is can I buy from Amazon.com for the cheap price, and still get it shipped to the UK without having to be re-directed to Amazon.co.uk and have to pay the expensive amount? You might have to pay a ridiculous amount for customs and such, so I don't know... If you are willing to, take the risk. Even if you do, and there are customs, the price would probably end up being the same as buying one from UK. Quote

He has a registered company that got Bankrupt stock stuff. Nothing dodgy though. But he has a UK department, So they will be getting the 32GB 3rd Gen in next week, for £180. So hopefully I can get it. Quote

MetroiD Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Hey Joey :) I can't help but wonder why would you need an Ipod these days anyway? I used to own one myself - in fact, not an Ipod, I bought a Creative Zen Touch since the sound was notably better on that. It was 20GB and was chock full of songs throughout the 2 years during which I owned/played it. I loved it to bits, but I sold it since I no longer listened to it (that, and I was broke). But that was back in 2005... Mobile phones have come a long way since then and now I'm using a pocketpc with an 8gig microsd card which holds all my music. Add to that a pair of Bluetooth headphones (both Dell and LG sell great BT headphones) and you've got all you could ever need, instead of having to carry around a bagful of devices. The Touch tries to combine anything under one roof anyway, so why not go that extra mile and buy a phone that does all that as well Just my 2 cents... Quote

Excellent, I was just looking out for you, those are the kind of ebay sellers I try to deal with To the Otters, I'm in your boat as I don't really use my ipod anymore, I bought it just because it was the cool thing, I actually havent picked mine up in a while, but it caters to a certain type of person. Maybe he's not able to have a phone contract, at 15 I know my parents would never fork over the $50-100 per month for a smartphone plan. Quote

But that was back in 2005... Well, things have come a long way since then. The iPod Touch is an iPhone without the phone or camera. It does so much more than an mp3 player. I would recommend buying the best iPod possible and buying a cheap disposable cell phone as it will be a much cheaper monthly rate than the outrageous iPhone contracts. As for other brands doing what an iPod does: no way, not even close. Movies, TV and all kinds for great apps. Sorry, no phone does what the iPod/iPhone can do. But that is just my opinion. YMMV Quote

YMMV Actually the new Motorola Droid from Verizon Wireless does everythig the iphone can and more. The only question is which format is better. I personally want an iphone but AT&T doesn't service my area, Verizon does though and I've done a bit of research on the droid and it looks pretty sweet. Quote
MetroiD Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Actually the new Motorola Droid from Verizon Wireless does everythig the iphone can and more. And that's precisely why I'm considering leaving the HTC camp... The Droid looks snazzy and can pretty much do it all, besides it's just the type of phone I wanted to get next - full-qwerty slider with minimalistic design. HTC had one that matched this description canceled earlier this year, so I'm wondering if they'll come up with something by Q1 2010 to rival the Droid... Anyway, back to the HTC Touch - I guess everyone's got their views and it's only fair that way. To me, the cell phone is the most important gadget for me. If that can be also combined music in a plausible way (let's face it, even if you're not an audiophile, no mp3 player will ever be able to match the sound of a proper home system!), then that's all I need. I've found out I don't even play games on my phone whenever I'm bored - I'd much rather play my music or surf the net. Best of all - you can go jogging, listen to your music and still remain reachable by phone in case someone needs to call you - without the need to drag half of your household appliances along. I did forget though that a Touch would set you off ~200 USD, whereas a good pocketpc starts at double that price - or costs an obscene amount of money divided into 24 instalments. So whatever you pick Joey, make sure you enjoy it mate cause at the end that's the only thing that really matters. Quote
Joey Lock Posted November 19, 2009 Author Posted November 19, 2009 Well firstly, Touch phones are quite expensize. Secondly, I already have a phone. Thirdly, I don't use a phone that much, So im temporarely on Pay as you Go. Forth, I lost my MP3 I got just this year. I can't find it anywhere, And Im not just buying this as a replacement. Fifth, I love the idea of having good games on a big screen and Touchscreen and Voice Control, Apps e.t.c. Although a Smartphone would be good, my school as the no phone rule, So It would be a pain to change song without the teacher saying "Put it away or I take it.". However Ipods are accepted, Because they don't know the diffrence between a Iphone and a Ipod Touch. So I would like to get a Iphone, But I can't really be bothered to pay £200-400 for a Iphone. So I Ipod Touch is my best option. Because its pratical at school, good sound, quick to use, mini games console e.t.c. But I never see my friends who have a Ipod Touch, Playing any of the games. They only either do music or Email, But mabye they all have the 8GB which cannot hold many games. Thanks Otters, Enjoyment does matter! Also 32GB is going to last me a few years, especially with the Apple Warranty incase. So taking that into consideration, I could be sneaky, right when the Ipod gets old and useless (If they age, Like PC's do) I could...Well...Sabotage, and get a warranty. But that would be stupid. Quote
Big Cam Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Sounds like you've thought it through. Plus if your school has wi-fi, you could get on Eurobricks during class. Quote

Well it sounds like you have your mind set. When you get it, make sure to get a case that protects most, if not all the iPod, so it lasts longer. You might want one that protects the screen, because a lot of my friends' iPod screens cracked Quote

My school has Wi-Fi with a Firewall, But luckily! They haven't blocked Eurobricks. Because Im the only one who uses it. But I only ever went on it once, During class. Because my friends would probably think Im weird still using Lego. @ prateek: Yes, I have a few cases in mind. I was actually first going to get a skin for it: A little something I made at Gelaskins.com. Quote
