I work at a salt mine. At the mine, we have all kinds of big, crazy looking machines and many conveyor belts to move salt. I feel some of these would make great Lego Town sets. I know power miners exist, but that isn't really anything like actual mining. We got this thing called an undercutter, which is pretty much a vehical with a 20 foot long chainsaw attached to it. Then we have the Trams, which are these giant bulldozer like machines. And, I mean massive. Each of these are about the size of a house. Then there are all kinds of old trucks for moving miners from place to place, and the conveyor system which runs salt through a crusher to be lifted to the surface via giant buckets.

I feel something such as this would have more depth (no pun intended) than the construction theme, and would be enjoyable by both AFOL and kids alike.

Being that I don't really like the power miners set, I'm all for a real mining set. But I think if they did do one, it'd be a technic set, and with the power miners theme, I don't see another mining theme anytime soon.

With the recent heavy construction machines Lego released you wonder if they should of take mining on instead of building eh ?

Sounds like a challenge has been set to come up with mining MOC's which could tie into the trains area in a big way.

I'll look into it myself, maybe New Mannum might have a gold rush !

I'm a conformist! ! :sweet:

Remember the giant dump truck set 7344 a la some of the larger Hitachi mining or quarry trucks.

That was a pretty cool set.

I think with some work and a few extra pieces you could convert 7632 into a larger crane suitable for a pit mine.

Mind you this is strip mining and maybe not what the OP was referring to necessarily.
