Carefree_Dude Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I work at a salt mine. At the mine, we have all kinds of big, crazy looking machines and many conveyor belts to move salt. I feel some of these would make great Lego Town sets. I know power miners exist, but that isn't really anything like actual mining. We got this thing called an undercutter, which is pretty much a vehical with a 20 foot long chainsaw attached to it. Then we have the Trams, which are these giant bulldozer like machines. And, I mean massive. Each of these are about the size of a house. Then there are all kinds of old trucks for moving miners from place to place, and the conveyor system which runs salt through a crusher to be lifted to the surface via giant buckets. I feel something such as this would have more depth (no pun intended) than the construction theme, and would be enjoyable by both AFOL and kids alike. Quote
Ricecracker Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Check out the 'Ideas for New City Sets' topic, and post your ideas there. That way, two things happen. The board isn't cluttered up with many threads for new ideas, and when the Ambassadors look to that thread for suggestions to pass on to Lego, your idea will be there. Quote

Big Cam Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Being that I don't really like the power miners set, I'm all for a real mining set. But I think if they did do one, it'd be a technic set, and with the power miners theme, I don't see another mining theme anytime soon. Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 With the recent heavy construction machines Lego released you wonder if they should of take mining on instead of building eh ? Sounds like a challenge has been set to come up with mining MOC's which could tie into the trains area in a big way. I'll look into it myself, maybe New Mannum might have a gold rush ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I think Lego provides you with all the parts needed to make mining models. MOC on! Quote
CommanderFox Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 They sound like very cool vehicals! BL is your friend. I agree with Cam, if TLC did do a mining vehical, it would be Technic. CommanderFox Quote
BlackKat Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Remember the giant dump truck set 7344 a la some of the larger Hitachi mining or quarry trucks. That was a pretty cool set. I think with some work and a few extra pieces you could convert 7632 into a larger crane suitable for a pit mine. Mind you this is strip mining and maybe not what the OP was referring to necessarily.
