greg3 Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 (edited) This very quick MOC was put together using a camel from the POP theme... Beginning during the Safavid period (1502-1736) the Persian army fielded camel mounted artillery. The first versions mounted large crossbows and the sound these made led to them being known as Zamburak or Zumbooruk (from the Arabic Zambur which means hornet) Later, they would be fitted with small cannons. To fire these, the camel would kneel and the gunner would dismount to aim and fire the cannon. In the 1880's a gattling gun version was developed and even today some camels fitted with modern heavy weapons have been used in Afghanistan. This version is based on a photograph I found of a Zamburak in India Thanks for looking - comments always welcome... Greg Edited May 18, 2010 by greg3 Quote

greg3 Posted May 18, 2010 Author Posted May 18, 2010 Feel free... like I mentioned it was just quickly thrown together (and as a result is a bit wobbly)... I might see about improving it at some point. Quote
Spyder Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Ingenious, the way you mounted the gun, and the use of those handle bars. Question: What piece did you use for the reigns around the camel's mouth? And one last thing. If this is a quickly thrown together MOC, I would love to see one you've put lot's of time into. Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 It looks great. I have never seen a camel mounted gun. The real picture is very cool and your MOC is perfect. Quote
BlueBard Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Great design! Love the concept, it reminds me to Metal Slug's one Quote
greg3 Posted May 18, 2010 Author Posted May 18, 2010 Hi Thanks for the kind comments... I do like to base my MOCs on real life history whenever possible (the odder the better!!) The reins are from Brickforge. Cheers Greg Quote

lightningtiger Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 So SIMPLE yet so AWESOME 'greg3' - you have to feel sorry for the poor camel, firing the gun would scare the you-know-what-out-of-it ! Thanks also for history of it too - I didn't know about this kind of armed transport. I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Ezechielle Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Seems like the new POP sets give some very good ideas! Very nice! Quote
UsernameMDM Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 (edited) Question: What piece did you use for the reigns around the camel's mouth? Inquiring minds want to know! (I thought I knew, but I was wrong.) Edited May 19, 2010 by UsernameMDM Quote
