krystalKING Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 WTB picture review. Link please? (and fast too!) Quote
vexorian Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I meant I cannot wait for one of them to appear now that the sets are available in some few places. Quote
Masked Builder Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Thought I'd let you guys know that 7051, 7049, 7067, 7050, and 7065 are on Toysrus.com now. I'm going to go see if mine store has them. I sure hope they do with this BOGO...... Quote
TimToyGeek Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I just ordered the Tripod and Jet-Copter from Toysrus.com, they were eligible for the BOGO, and there are three days left for it. Sadly, the Mothership, Headquarters and Abduction sets are not available. I'll do some reviews when I get the sets... Tim Quote
krystalKING Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 (edited) I just bought the alien defender and tripod invader,I should get them in 5-9 days.I picked these 2 because they give you both aliens, a soldier and a civilian. Edited April 21, 2011 by krystalKING Quote
Tereglith Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 I'm going to a brick-and-mortar TRU tomorrow, so fingers crossed that they'll be there. If they are, I should be able to whip up a review for one or both of Tripod Invader and Alien Defender by Easter (unless anyone can do it faster ). Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 I'm going to a brick-and-mortar TRU tomorrow, so fingers crossed that they'll be there. Let us know if they are - the TRU website says they're still only available online. Same for the new Kingdoms sets. I really wanted to pick up a couple of the cheap sets during the BOGO 1/2 sale, but with the cost of shipping there's no savings at all unless you're buying the big sets, which I can't afford. Quote
Dino_Bot Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Oh wow! I didn't know about these! They are SO COOL! OMG! Quote
Tereglith Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 (edited) Let us know if they are - the TRU website says they're still only available online. You might want to check that again - it says they're not available for in-store pickup (you can't order it and have it shipped to your local branch), but the "available in stores" thing is very much green-check-marked. But it does say local availability may be limited, hence my uncertainty as to whether they'll be on the shelves at my local store. EDIT: Back from my excursion. Apparently the right hand knows not what the left hand is doing at TRU, as counter to the website's information, it wasn't in stock. I talked with a very nice attendant, who went back to the store computer and looked at the data for other branches; no dice. However, she allowed me to order Jet-Copter Encounter and Tripod Invader from the computer right there, complete with free shipping, so those should be arriving within the week. Mixed news then! good that they're so close to release, but it sucks that getting hold of them for the time being is going to be hit and miss. I've heard rumours that they're available in the UK now too, with similar restraints on when we can purchase them - only I read that the sets are in store here. Anyway, I'm glad you got the Jet Copter, that looks like a great set and I'm looking forward to seeing your review. I know you've posted before about how much you like the set, and I agree. Seemingly not alot of fellow AFOLs like this set when compared to the rest in the theme. Let's hope our anticipation is justified! Quote

Even though it was something of a letdown that I have to wait a few days to get them, I'm not too bummed. Any time you can get summer sets in April is a good time! I'm very glad about the Jet-copter too. I don't know why it's generated such comparatively little excitement; I almost wonder if people are scrolling down, see the Earth Defense HQ, know it's the flagship set, and then don't bother with the relatively puny helicopter below it. It has signficantly fewer "I want"s on Brickset than the rest of the theme. Very odd. In any case, I think it looks and will be awesome, and I will be certain to show the rest of the forum whether or not it is when I get it (which the TRU thing says should be between the 28th and the 5th). A lot of people don't like the Jet-Copter because its wings use the big plane/space shuttle wing pieces, which many people consider an overly-large and specialized part. I personally think the Jet-Copter's pretty awesome, but for some people any piece larger than 6x8x1 is a bad part and enough for a set containing that part to be completely ignored. Quote
Iysk Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 What set would be best to get the Alien pet (head piece)? The tripod or UFO? I can't see myself using the UFO for MOC other than the tiles... I plan to get the two cheapest sets, does anyone think money should be saved for larger ones (my max is @ $50)? Quote

I'm a fan of the Jet-Copter, but I wouldn't mind skipping it just to save money for the HQ. As much as I like the design for both of them, the HQ takes the cake for me, and at that price I'm gonna have to cut expenses somewhere. I think a lot of people probably think like that, especially those who also plan on collecting other themes. Quote

I'm getting the Tripod for two reasons: a decent price to get the alien head thing and you get the 10th Doctor like figure Price wise the tripods better. Quote
Raphy Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 (edited) Speaking of the Jet Copter wings, has anyone noticed the dog paw design by the "73" on them? Wonder what that's about.... I don't know why the Jet Copter is generating less interest, I prefer its design to the HQ personally.... Edited April 26, 2011 by Raphy Quote
sidersdd Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 (edited) I have the jet-copter, tripod, and defender in-hand. The minifigs are great. Will try and post a review tomorrow. I did take a pic comparing the Azure Blue against other blue colors here: http:/www.flickr.com/photos/sidersdd/5660263456/ Edited April 27, 2011 by sidersdd Quote
Tony Almeida Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 So are these sets loaded with stickers or are we getting more printed pieces again? Quote

Aanchir Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 So are these sets loaded with stickers or are we getting more printed pieces again? For parts where stickers are reasonable, there will be stickers. For minifigures where prints are most reasonable, there will be prints. Rest assured that it doesn't seem to be like the Speed Racer theme where huge sheets of tiny stickers were used on all scores of pieces. Rather, stickers seem to be used primarily on large, smooth areas of pieces (as well as the occasional tinier sticker like on 1x2 cheese slopes). And also, there seem to be very few of them-- few enough that the sets wouldn't look much worse or even much different if you chose not to apply the stickers. Quote
vexorian Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 (edited) Stickers. Meh. I just hope the sets look good without stickers, if not I will not buy the medium-large ones. I've seen the designs of the large UFO and the tripod and they would require very large stickers and that is something I am not going to apply. Edited April 27, 2011 by vexorian Quote
