Tobbe Arnesson Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Exciting news! But this and the next Alien (directed by Ridley Scott) makes me wonder, are they out of fresh ideas? Quote
def Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I guess that's what happens when you make a movie like Speed Racer. You all of a sudden come up with Matrix sequels. Poor guys. Quote

I didn't really like Revolutions the first time I saw it, but I love the Matrix universe, and there are so many more stories to be told there... Quote
JimBee Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 No no no. God. Why does every good movie franchise have to be screwed up? I loved the Matrix films (just look at my avatar), at least the first two. Why, oh why do they have to mess it all up? I suppose they'll answer the unanswered questions at the end of Revolutions, but if there was one good part about that movie, it's that they weren't answered. I suppose I shouldn't be so pessimistic, I liked Indy 4, so why not these. But, I will keep my expectations at a minimum. I wonder if Joel Silver will have a part in it? And Hugo Weaving? And, Bill and Ted part 3? There was a second one? The futuristic Robin Hood sounds interesting as well. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I guess that's what happens when you make a movie like Speed Racer. You all of a sudden come up with Matrix sequels. Poor guys. You mean, when you make a terrible movie, you start having ideas for more potentially terrible movies? Although I don't think that source seems very credible, if the info is true it doesn't sound all that surprising. The Matrix is totally the sort of thing that the film companies would want to do more of in this 3D-crazed era. Since only the first Matrix really holds up in its entirety with out being weighed down by overbearing nonsense and that sort of overblown dialogue that the Frenchman is given (among everyone else), I have a feeling that any more sequels would be even worse duds. They'd probably sell tickets, though, so what do the production houses care? Quote
Duelpear Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Exciting news! But this and the next Alien (directed by Ridley Scott) makes me wonder, are they out of fresh ideas? Not happening anymore actually. The Aliens prequels that were planned have now been turned into a different franchise called Prometheus. http://www.slashfilm.com/ridley-scotts-alien-prequel-longer-alien-prequel-prometheus-starring-noomi-rapace/ Quote
Clone OPatra Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Yeah… so I'd take everything in that article with a big grain of salt. Quote
def Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 You mean, when you make a terrible movie, you start having ideas for more potentially terrible movies? Close. You make one of the biggest money losers in history, and you retreat to something bankable, if still absolutely terrible. I think Speed Racer was definitely better than Matrix 2 &3. Quote
DarthSion Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 Lets keep this to matrix not aliens please. I can not wait to see how they bring Neo back. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Well, seeing how bringing up Aliens basically discredited the source that you posted, I wouldn't say it was such a bad thing to interject. I think you are far overestimating the reliability of that article. Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I'm generally against making multiple sequels (everybody saw my comments on SW, right?) but to be fair, I think the Matrix has tons of possibilities for stories. Not only did they make the Animatrix with tons of side stories in the universe, but back in the day there were also a bunch of online comics written by top-flight authors like Neil Gaiman and, well, Neil Gaiman is the only one I remember offhand, but they were good ones. They may have closed off a lot of possible story avenues with the way they ended Revolutions, but I'm sure they can come up with more. At the end of Reloaded, there was rampant speculation about a third layer of reality, and we know that there have been other iterations of the Matrix and Neo. There are also numerous rogue elements within the machine society - Smith and the Merovingian were only two that cropped up in the movies. I really think there are lots of ways that another pair of sequels could be made without being a blatant money grab. This article does sound pretty dodgy, though. Even if it's true that Keanu met with the Wachowskis and they discussed possible sequels, in the Hollywood world that's a far cry from actually signalling an upcoming production. Quote

It's an alien prequel but not directly. It's supposed to feature some things from Alien. It the same universe and it's set before Alien but it's not linked to the Alien story line. With Ridley Scott directing and Gieger designing.....*whistle* it should be pretty epic. Quote
