I love your trucks, Selander - I've been plowing through your Brickshelf folder wondering if I should try to copy some of your work. Your designs are delightfully smooth and detailed. That dark red/dark tan version is great, and the Octan tanker with dark red and dark green is just plain gorgeous. Great work.

Again, an excellent job on these. My favourites are the red and Octan ones in the first picture, and the Volvo digger

BTW, how do you make the fronts like that? Mind doing a tutorial/instructions?

Thanks L@go for your kind words !!

Feel free to copy - I just take that as a compliment, and copying is a great way to learn new technics for your own MOC:ing.

Thanks Prateek !!! I really appreciate your comments.

I assume you mean how to build the Mercedes front... which is more or less quite basic - I think you can see almost everything if studying pictures closely. The "only" special thing there is, is the black grille (with Merc logo-sticker) which is built upside down.

A short tutorial follows:

One black Technic plate 1 x 4 is placed in the bottom of grille.

On top of that you put a tile 1x2 and plate 1x1 (4pcs needed) with studs facing down into the holes of 4263.

A plate 1x6 holds the black cheese pieces and via the 1x1 plates and another tile 1x2 in center which "meets" the face of first

tile 1 x 2 you are done.

Perhaps difficult to undrestand when reading first, but kindly re-study the pictures again, and then I'm sure you follow me.

Otherwise - just keep on asking

Good luck building your own Mercedes truck !!

Very nice trucks Selander. I really love the design you've used to buid the cabs and the colours are pleasing to the eye. My favourites would be the dark green and dark red ones but they are all very good.

Great Job!

Thanks. It's a pretty clever design IMO. It's too bad I don't have any of those 1x4 Technic bits

I do very much like the look of these, especially the front, it looks quite real.

What makes me worry a little is how their size relates to the Lego cars that are made today (6-wide). I mean in proportion with the small cars your trucks look amazing, but next to a 6-wide car they may seem somewhat smallish. Not like you could actually carry such cars with them.

I'm not much into town, but the scale issue must be confusing for you guys.

Thanks Perfectionist.

About the scale, I do not see any problem with that. It's just a matter of having a clear strategy and to stick with that.

All my trucks and buses etc are 6-wide. All my cars are 4-wide. So scalewise, they fit perfectly togehter.

If TLG releases 6-wide cars, I don't buy them, or I could rebuilt them to 4-wide versions to fit my strategy.

However if you start mixing scales and sizes, your town will probably look strange and unrealistic, so you have a point there.

Bottomline is that it's all about your own consistency.

That's a great looking collection of trucks you have there. I agree with you about mixing scales. My town standard is 4 wide trucks and cars. I also enjoy building 6 wide MOCs. They look out of whack in my classic town. My fix so far has been to display 6 wides on a separate shelf away from my town.

Keep on truckin' :classic:

Very nice Selander. I remember seeing a few of these before (both here and on flickr), but it's nice to see them all together. I don't remember seeing the dump trucks before though.

It's funny how scale so often leads to discussion. These truck are obviously too narrow compared to many of the cars and vans LEGO sells in city sets, but as we have discussed before, it is mainly a matter of being consistent -a big advantage of filling our LEGO city streets with MOCs rather than sets.

Cheers,

Ralph

Hi Selander,

that is really an impressive collection. I also like the colors you have used especially the ones that use dark green and dark red. Somehow the dark colors make the models look even more real. The front of the trucks with the upside-down technique is a nice detail and something that I plan to use one of my next trucks.

Keep it up.

This is truly a great collection of Mercedes trucks you have Selander! I have always been a fan of that uniquely-built front which has become your signature technique in truck-designing. These trucks do look good together, and it's really great to know that you 'build-and-collect' rather than 'build-dismantle-then build another MOC'. Hoping to see your Mercedes truck collection keep expanding in the future.
