I doubt this set is kid focused when its $199.95, but you have a good point with your remarks on why the ship was likely chosen.

There are several sets in other themes at this price point that were kid focused. Hoth and the upcoming technic RC set come to my mind here. I guess the Ewok Village also counts.

Well, I'm certainly hoping that images can get released soon...

I am dividing the discussion for the POTC theme differently than other Rumor and Discussion Topics. The divide is according to when images for the sets are released, see below.

The following discussion should be in this topic:

  • The previous 2011 wave of POTC sets.
  • Upcoming sets with no official images, potential sets or wishlists.
  • Discussion solely about the story, character, and other movie related information belong in the relevant movie topic in the Culture & Media Forum.

I meant that they tried releasing PotC sets aimed at kids but they didn't perform that well (apart from the ships, which did as well as Pirate ships usually do), so this time they are aiming squarely for the AFOL audience by releasing a single UCS ship. They're not going to release smaller sets because they know the market probably isn't there for them.

If it is a ghost ship it seems likely that it is aimed at kids, there are plenty of spoiled kids who are likely to get a $ 200 set in the world..

If it looks like a realistic ship it is more likely aimed at adults.

Maybe Lego do not have room on the shelfs now for a complete wave, remember even "fantastic beasts" only got dimensions sets and I believe HP sets have been traditional bestsellers?!

If pictures come out today, I'm assuming it'll be a 12 pm-ish release.

I don't know why they didn't make a full line for Pirates, but I'm happy with that decision and just one huge ship. I think not doing a full line for Fantastic Beasts was a huge mistake, but that's not a discussion that belongs here. I think the only thing a full Pirates line would've been better for is getting every character in the movie, but hopefully the ship will deliver on that too.

Not having a full line is a missed opportunity.Hell they don't even have to make a full line, just a small wave with 3 or 4 sets.Such a waste really.

Any way you guys think we'll finally see the ship today?

It was not mentioned in the press release, but that might be for a suprise reveal. Either it'll be NYTF or released in official images online. I'm personally expecting the official images route as i'm unsure if they would want to risk revealing the set in-person where it'd be more easy to see any potential flaws in the design.

It's releasing in less than 4 weeks, so I assume it will be on the Toy Fair. Hopefully it will not disappoint.

I presume Lego is gonna put out an official press release for the set right? That's what they do with sets like these.I hope so because I really wanna see those minifigs.

The overall ship looks pretty good and it is the Silent Mary as many speculated.

I've seen a few pictures of this ship. It looks great but none of the pics show the zombie shark. Isnt that supposed to be in this set?

Some speculation on the zombie shark, since it isn't official that it is in the SM set, maybe it will be a Shop @ Home polybag.

That would be an interesting polybag wouldn't it!  I was hoping to get some clarification from the people who said that the Shark was coming out in a POTC set.  It is quite possibly they were taking about another POTC set.:look:

I don't think it's in a polybag and onn the blurry box you can see 2 gray things, those are sharks, I think.

That's an important point you have there; it really seems that the shark is on the blurry box art. And since the blurred picture was made most likely with the final box, it must be meant to be included in this set. For now, nothing of it makes sense.

We know for sure that the shark exists

We know that it belongs to PotC since it's in the trailer

We are pretty sure that it is on the blurred box art

But it wasn't shown or mentioned at toy fair.

It isn't included in the current official pictures or the set description.

So the very last explanation I can deliver is that the shark will be in the set but they hold it back until the early vip purchase. Be it to avoid spoilers (although it was in the trailer) or for a strange bold marketing move.

We have to keep in mind that only a small majority of the potential buyers take notice of events like toy fair or spend months in the internet to keep track of every tiny news leak.

I guess most people that are going to buy the set don't even have in mind yet that the film is about to be released.

And surely we weren't supposed to know about the shark so early.
