Dear friends,

I am building big castle, and I would like to put some kind of lights inside, to illuminate windows (made of trans bricks). I tried using Christmas lights, but they are too hot.

Any suggestions what would be easiest and yet the best-in-results way to put "sparkle" in castle night life? :)

The idea is to looks like there is someone inside and the lights are on :)

I would use both Lego and non Lego lights, preferring non-Lego

Well, heat up your soldering iron and get some LED's.

I use a microcontroller (Arduino like). I made a welder for the Train Engine Shed at LEGOWorld 2011 (Zwolle). It costed me about 15 minutes to solder the 'ironing gun' (two tiny SMD LED's).

So...

I tried using old 9V LEGO LEDs but they are too expensive on bricklink.

I don't have a solution at the moment but i think i will buy some LEDs and solder them together with some small resistance and them use a 3V power source. It should be fairly cheap. The biggest problem can be the many wires.

thank you guys ;) the lights can be still, they do not need to twinkle :)

and the wires won't be a problema, because I've started planing before building, and I want to implement wires into the structure. Aldo I will leave one side of the castle open, it will be near the wall, and massive, and hard to move...

What kind of non Lego led do you use?

If you are after battery lights, get yourself a bunch of LED tea lights, available in almost any craft store.

Since you said these are going in a castle, the tea lights actually flicker as if it is a flame.

I've boughten lots of these before and just gutted the insides of them out and used them in MOCs, they work well.

I would use regular 5mm 3V LEDs.

Any electronic store should have them and they are cheap.

Before going to you store to buy LED's power supply and resistance be sure to do some math on how big the resistance is and how high the voltage is. REMEMBER to use aparallel circuit or the voltage needs to be extremely high. Which will blow off the LED's and not work at all XD
