dr_spock Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 (edited) Name: 3178 Sea Plane Theme: City Year: 2010 Piece Count: 102 Minifigs: 1 Price: $14.99 CDN, $10.99 USD I've been wanting to get this little set for a while now. I like the yellow and white colours. There was 25% off sale last week and I gave in. THE BOX: The box is small and very thin cardboard. It has pretty photos of the product in the front and back. The back shows the features of the sea plane. INSIDE THE BOX: Inside the box contains 2 plastic bags of parts, 1 sticker sheet, 2 wing pieces and 2 instruction bookets. (Yes, 2 booklets for such a small set.) MINIFIGURES: The set comes with one minifigure. He is a generic plaid kind of guy. THE BUILD: It does say "Designed for easy build" right on the box. Everything came together easily with no errors. It was quick and enjoyable. "Hurry up, I want my plane. Can't you build any faster?" The landing pontoons were interesting. They're held together with Technic parts and pins. PARTS: Extra pieces. The propellers supplied with the set are different than the ones pictured on the box. I don't think this is a not set you would get for interesting special parts. SUMMARY: Playability: 10/10 (it swooshes well) Design: 8/10 (the colours are good) Price: 7/10 (11 cents US/piece or 15 cents CDN/piece) Parts: 7/10 Mini-figures: 7/10 Overall: 7/10 "We live to deliver." Brickviller Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Good review, very clear and all. The last pic is hilarious. I've seen this set ;ying in shops but never bought it, we've seen airplanes like this for decades by now, but if you don't have any this is a really good set Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Great review dr_spock I like this set but, don't own it. While being on the bottom of my list, I'm still thinking about getting one. Thanks for an in depth look at this set Quote
dr_spock Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 Thanks for the feedback. This is my first small Lego plane. I missed out getting the Air Mail a couple of years ago. Quote
green dewback Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Did anybody else notice the 2 propellors are different on the box as compared to the real parts ? It's rounded on the box but rectangle in reality. Quote
CptMugwash Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Hi, I think this is a nice little set, my favourite part is the storage Me and my bro both noticed the propellors. Good review Quote
Canada_7 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I've been holding back on buying this set. As someone brought up some time ago, I think the set goes together well with the new Creator Log Cabin. Since then I've been considering buying the two sets together at the same time but there are other higher priority sets I'm saving up for. Quote
slovakiasteph Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I bought it... a bit of an impulse buy as it was on sale for $8.39 at my grocery store. I can't think that I'd ever need an airplane, but I keep it next to my log cabin... flies in to the lake. The plane, when built, was larger than I'd expected it to be. I thought it was a pretty good value, but I did get a bit off the price. Quote
