Do we know how the D&D series is selling?

I couldnt help but notice there are less reviews than usual. Even some regular LEGO reviewers on YouTube didnt review it (yet)

:look:

It’s hard to say since reviews ≠ sales. I was in my local store on release day for the Burrow and they had a separate table staffed by a phone wielding employee set out for the D&D series. It was never super crowded, but I stopped by to snag a Sorcerer for the new baby dragon and I was probably there for less than a minute rapid scanning codes, so you can’t really judge engagement based on first day crowd huddles anymore.

It’s worth noting that a whole lot of clicks for CMF reviews used to be generated by people looking for feel guides for the old bags. After a year of boxes and about eight months of box codes with multiple apps released taking away the average person’s need to look at a cheat sheet, there are probably plenty of reviewers less enthusiastic about doing all the work for a review (on a license they may have no interest in) that ultimately won’t do much to boost their engagement numbers in the algorithms.

Where I am they are selling fast especially the Paladin, Tiefling, Githyanki,  The least favorites seem to be the bard and the Dwarf.

I would suspect they are doing quite well.  The LAN Ambassador for my LUG always does a bulk order for us for each minifig series.  He said this has been by far the most popular one since he started doing it.  As for availability in my local stores, so far I have only found them in one Target in the next town, lucked into an almost full box in my nearest Kohls and about a dozen leftovers in my local Barnes & Noble so they are not easily found in the wild by me so far where I live.

Are there enoguh characters for a Series 2?

Yes there are enough for several series.  There are quite a lot of named characters in the DnD universe and this is only a very small sample of things in DnD.  Just off the top of my head I could have at least 3 series worth from the Dragonlance part of DnD itself.

Very well I would say! I bought a box and already sold all the extras, but I still have plenty to sell from series 25. I follow the stock in a few shops and it drops quickly in most of them, my guess is this is the best selling series in several years :steve:

Also worth noting is that people use reviews to get a better look at the Minifigs and decide which ones they want; in the case of the DnD series, all of the Minifigs are excellent and have obviously-useful pieces, so there is less of a need to look at reviews to see which are “worth getting”.

Only four of the DnD CMFs are named characters, with the other eight being generic species and classes. I am not fully familiar with DnD’s named characters, but I do know that there are a lot of them!
As for a Series 2, the bulk would likely be generic species/class ‘figs, and there are still many of both that we have not gotten! Tabaxi, Aasimar (reused Jarnathan wings), Gnome, and Orc/Half-Orc are easy PC choices, with Drow, Gnoll, and Kobold as good picks for enemies - This brings us to seven new ‘figs without having to reuse S1 species (though new colours of Elf, Tiefling, and Dragonborn would be quite welcome!). For classes, we are still missing (in CMF form) a Rogue, Cleric, Fighter, Monk, Wizard, and Artificer, and there is a lot of potential for variety even in remade S1 classes (an Oathbreaker Paladin, for example)!

That's odd--I would have thought the Dwarf Barbarian's axe and Half-Elf Bard's new printed lute would be big draws.

Clearly people are put off by the dwarf man-bun & the pink scarf

Every time I go there are no Paladins at all and plenty of dwarves and bards.  I've managed to get 8 Aarakocra so far which is good.  I also have 8 mindflayers.  Lady of pain seems to be a lesser dersired fig also.  Tieflings were hard to find for a bit then I've managed to pick up a few.  My son also likes this series so I'm trying to get him a full set which I was able to only by buying a full box of 36 so I got 3 Paladins out of the full box but it's been hard to find more as it seems everyone is taking them immediately.

That was super lucky indeed, I would start scanning to get the last one or you most probably will end up with a lot of repeats

Facts: The D&D CMF is selling really well, I've heard from multiple retail sources it is the bestselling series in years with one retailer having sold 3 times as many figures through the first three weeks as the last series.  In addition, they hit the top five in building toys on amazon, and they are still in the top 15 as of this posting. Hasbro CEO said on the last earnings call they've been really happy with Lego D&D and are excited about the potential future of the partnership.

Speculation; I think you are going to get multiple additional Lego D&D CMF series with a focus on adventuring characters and adversaries versus named characters just based on the demand we've seen on different figures.  Probably some recolors (examples; purple skinned tiefling, brown aarakocra) mixed in with new races/molds.  I also would not be surprised at all to see a small test series come out with a few smaller or midsized sets, which if they do well could lead to a bigger launch on the regular development cycle.  Everything I've heard to this point suggests this has legs.

Out of interest, who on here is into D&D? I never was, but bought these CMFs because they can be used as figures for general castle Lego. I’d buy other CMFs (or even sets) that would do, too but don’t have any interest in anything that’s too D&D-specific such as the mimic GWP they ran.

I'm not into D&D myself.  Some of my fellow LUG members are very into it.  I tried watching a little of the tournament they had at Brickslopes but I had no clue what they were doing.  I also just bought these figures to mix & match for my castle builds.  I also bought the big set because it looked really cool for castles.  I'd definitely buy future series if they make them though I'm not really a fan of the animal heads & legs like the Aarakocra.  As long as the rest of the parts in the figs are usable & interesting they are worth it to me.

I’m the same - the animal heads have been replaced with human ones, etc. it does make me wonder what % of people buy it for this same reason, and that maybe the common denominator is castle. I would love an out an out castle themed CMF series, with a mix of factions and civilians

I really don’t care about minifigures themselves but I like their accessories and minifigure arts like axe, flute, hairpiece, baby dragon, eagle head, etc

I am hoping we will see more fantasy creatures like baby dragon in future D&D series. Not sure about a brain-dog thing.

I personally grabbed the Sorcerer entirely for the baby dragon, but I switched the minifig to a human and she’s now the best dressed patron in my Diagon Alley (suck it Lockhart). I’m also considering picking up the Witch Queen to do the same with. (And I’m tempted to grab the Paladin just because he’s so cool, I’ve wanted that head mold since it came out but the Vidiyo beatboxes were so overpriced and I never saw the bandmates series 2 in my area)

Smaller sets could fill a Castle niche that Lego hasn't filled for over a decade - assuming we would get the standard trappings of a forest, a tavern, and come crumbling ruins, all sprinkled in with some new minifigures, it'd be a smash hit. It even has an advantage over other licensed series (like Disney, Marvel, or Series) in that you're encouraged to buy multiples to army build/mix and match parts, which is a lot harder to do with someone like Homer or Mulan. Even some of the named characters from this series, like the witch of the vampire, are all still pretty "generic" and could go in a lot of other scenes. Overall, though, I'm glad to see that the series has been a success!

Never played the game, but I have been curious about it for awhile. I just don't have any friends that would get together to play.

Interestingly, my local Wal-mart has already gotten a restock of the minifigs already - which is something I don't think I've ever seen before. I picked up one more Dragonborn (the last one they had), three Mindflayers, and two halflings (people are sleeping on that little guy hard!). If I stumble across any more Dragonborn, I might get them - but I've already gotten a ton, so I'm probably done with the series at this point.

I have 6 druids and can't wait to really start diving into minifig customizing with this series.  I've dabbled with a few of the characters so far.  planning on doing some this weekend to see what I can come up with.

So the latest rumor I’m seeing on instagram is that the upcoming F1 series doesn’t have any minifigure parts at all? Apparently it’s half micro cars and half buildable helmets? This has gotta be something completely separate like the bandmates or unikitty at this point right? There’s no possible justification for including this in the Minifigures theme at this point.
