Peppermint_M Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Citation Needed I just looked it up and can't find anything on the wikipedia LEGO articles. Quote
L@go Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 (edited) It's there alright, in the Italian page on Lego, Cronistoria section. But as no sources are given, we'll have to assume the person who put it there is either a) somebody who knows something the rest of us don't or b) an Italian prankster... EDIT: As far as I can tell, via Google Translate, there's a lot of strange claims about 2011 as well. Airship and Coast Guard in September? Edited May 19, 2011 by L@go Quote
Legoist Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 A Zoo theme would require quite a bunch of new molds for the wild animals, since so far how many have been produced? I can remember an elephant mould, and then there are the recent ostrich and camel (both not really too common in a zoo but usable). It's doable but I would have expected TLG to capitalize on the new molds of farm animals rather than making new ones. Anyway... that section of the italian version of the page is written in quite a poor Italian language, not majorly flawed but still sounds as if it was written by a kid, IMHO. Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 What is more interesting is this talk of an airship and re-intro of coast guard....the latter would be logical given the harbour sets comming out. But true could be a kid's wish list more likely ! Well the truth is out there......I guess ? Quote
Bart Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I remember the old Duplo had a lot of wild animals :P Bart Quote
Fuzzylegobricks Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 there was scheduled to be a zoo this year, but not a town one just a duplo zoo. Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 They could do a petting zoo with farm animals... And maybe introduce an official sheep. One can dream, right? Quote
Joebot Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 A Zoo theme would require quite a bunch of new molds for the wild animals, since so far how many have been produced? I can remember an elephant mould, and then there are the recent ostrich and camel (both not really too common in a zoo but usable). In my zoo, I've got an elephant, a camel, two ostriches, two polar bears (from the Arctic theme), a bunch of monkeys, parrots, and a reptile house containing snakes, frogs, and an alligator. I've also got a petting zoo with horses, cows, pigs, chickens, and sometime soon (as soon as I get the Mill Raid set) goats. So, you can put together a decent zoo using currently released animals. I tried using the Duplo baby giraffe, which is about the right scale next to a mini-fig, but I just didn't like the way it looked. Some new mini-fig scale lion or tiger molds would be very cool. A Zoo theme is one of those "well, DUH!" ideas that you just can't believe TLC has never produced (outside of Duplo, that is). It would have wide appeal to both boys and girls. It could have a whole range of sets, both large and small. It's a total no-brainer. Quote
LEGO AFOL Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 If LEGO really releases a zoo, I surely buy even if it empties my bank account. I have never ever seen a LEGO zoo before. Quote
AwesomeTaylor Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 They have started printing horses, maybe they will make a zebra print? Quote
meyerc13 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I was browsing Brickshelf last night and ran across a wonderful zoo, and I was thinking, "Why can't LEGO release something like this?" I would love it if this were true. For those who are excited by this possibility, take a look at the zoo I found (not mine): Here's the folder: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=472924 You can see that this creator used brick built ostriches and penguins, polar bears, elephants... quite a realistic zoo with only what is available today and what can be built, imagine a few new molds (and a zebra print would be awesome!). Jargo Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 (edited) Zebras have different manes to Horses. It stands up like a punk mohican so there would have to be a new head on the Horse body. The Polar bear could be cast in brown for a Grizzly bear as they are genetically the same animal. The Lion and Tiger have the same physiology so Lego could do one mould to get two animals and just have the Lions mane as a clip on piece to allow for male or female. Then print stripes on the body recast in orange to make a Tiger. effectively getting three animals from one body. similarly leopards and black Panthers share physiology so two animals from one mould. a Hippopotamus and Rhinosrus could share a body and just have different heads. There's lots of animals that are similar enough that Lego could create a large number from a much smaller set of moulds and save money. I think What stops Lego from doing a zoo theme is that taditonally it's the very young that get off on zoo animals while the older kids get off on vehicles and action themes. Convincing the average seven year old that zoo's are cool and tearing him away from fire engines and spaceships and pirates would be a hard task. Personally I'd sell my mother to get a Lego zoo. LEGO Guy Bri Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 (edited) Personally I'd sell my mother to get a Lego zoo. That is hilarious but, a Lego zoo could be worth it. I'd like to see some animals in my city other than cats, dogs, birds, etc. I don't buy other themes so this is all I have Neat find too, whoever built that zoo did a great job. Peppermint_M Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Personally I'd sell my mother to get a Lego zoo. My mother would sell me to get a Lego zoo! She loves the Lego animals, but I think it would become a safari park over a zoo (cages are mean). The whole ethical issue over a zoo might also be a problem. But no zoo buildings means sets that are just animals and scenery. I mean, Playmobile sell safari sets with lots of animals and some generic bushes/rocks but the appeal of that would be lost on the target market TLG would have in mind. After all, as mentioned earlier, kids want whizz and bang by the time they are allowed the little bricks. Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 A zoo would be a fantastic sub-theme for City. Just thinking of the animals they could include. I've always wanted a zoo for my city. sometimes I've thought of making one myself but I don't have many animals besides a lot of crocodiles and 1 elephant. Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Ah, Playmobile also has recently done a zoo set, so we can not rule out a Lego one now can we ? I'm still wondering about this airship, something odd...no one has ever asked in wish list on EB for one - yet again who asked for a helicopter transport for roadside assistance ? Let's wait and see if any more information comes forth.....Brick On Everyone ! Quote
badboytje88 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Well there have been a lot of animals produced already: Polar bear (could be a regular bear in brown) Ostrich Camel Monkey (and the small monkey form the collectables) Horse (could be a zebra with some printing) Goat Pigs Cows Dogs Elephant Lots of birds, water animals and creepy crawlers Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Bingo, collectable minifig's there's the clue ! The monkey in the next series, remember we have had water based figures - harbour sets, Japanese figures - Ninjago and a green headed alien - Alien Conquest. I know it might be a stretch to believe, but it's logical. Quote

LegoCityMann Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 You have a VERY good point, and let's not forget the explorer that preceded Pharaohs' Quest It's all just speculation at this point though. By this logic someone could claim that Lego is bringing back the Studio theme because of the Monsters and the Gorilla Suit Guy and the Lizard Man. Quote
dr_spock Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 2012 Vengono lanciate le linee dei cantieri edili e dello zoo. No citation or reference. I'll believe it when I see on Lego.com. Quote
Piranha Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) Yes I agree a Zoo would be very cool, but Wikipedia is not a trusted source because I could have done that . There are many great ideas here and we have posted many others in the "Ideas for new city sets" topic. The horse could pass as a zebra with the printing IMO. There is a large diversity of animals that already exists in LEGO, such as the elephants (which btw are about $20-$30 on BL) and others. Yes perhaps the collectible figs are a clue? The zoo keeper in Series 5 w/monkey ? Possibly. I do hope a zoo gets done, they did do a farm which is a nice change of pace, so a zoo subtheme. also I think a Safari theme would be cool too, there are some past ones like 6672.
