Dufresne Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 After finishing my last big project I've been dragging my feet on starting another one, so in the meantime I've been cranking out minifigs of the characters from the book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. It's been in the news a lot lately thanks to the HBO series based on it, Game of Thrones. WARNING: The following images may include spoilers for fans who have only watched the show and not read the books! Still with me? Great! I've made about 30 minifigs overall, 24 of which I've gotten up online. Here are a few group shots: The Starks: Arya, Jon Snow, Robb, Catelyn, Ned, Bran (with Hodor), Sansa, and Rickon Daenerys Targaryen and friends: Arstan Whitebeard, Ser Jorah Mormont, Khal Drogo, and Illyrio Mopatis The High Council: Littlefinger, Grand Maester Pycelle, and Varys You can see the rest on my Flickr. XimenaPaulina Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I'm not familiar with the book/TV series but this looks to be a great batch of custom figs. And since this focuses solely on custom minfigs, I'll move this to the MCW forum where it more appropriately belongs. Though a really god job on these Dufresne! Quote
joeygunns Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 They're fantastic! I like the hound and the mountain! Nice job on Pycelle's chains :) Great work! Quote
Sandy Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 You've done what I've only contemplated on doing - creating the cast of Song of Fire and Ice books/the Game of Thrones tv-series. And what a great bunch they are! You've even improved some of the characters that are a little "off" in the tv-series, such as Varys and Hodor, in my opinion. I don't know if using the brown pouches as shoulder paddings is your own thought, but it's ingenious anyway. Quote
Angeli Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I was amazed with resemblance of some of the minifigs ;) Quote

I've seen the technique used a couple of times before, so I can't claim ownership, unfortunately. Can't remember where I saw it, though. And yeah, the characters aren't a direct 1:1 with the TV show characters. In some cases, I tried to make them look like the characters on TV, (and the Starks at least, all came out about right for that,) but in other cases, I built the characters more like I saw them in my head when I was originally reading the books. And obviously, there are some characters who haven't appeared in the show yet. :) Thanks everyone for the great response! Quote
Sandy Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 And obviously, there are some characters who haven't appeared in the show yet. :) Such as Brienne, who must be my favorite character in any book ever. You've captured her quite well, even though I've pictured her even more unfeminine in my head than how your minifig portrays her. Quote
Fives Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 These are great! I really like Jon, Arya and Petyr. The Jack fave suits him perfectly. I myself have just started the books, and am about half way through the first book. I have already seen the whole first season of the HBO series, so the first book is pretty much ruined for me, but I'm still gonna read it. My only gripe with these figs is that Ned's face and hair just doesn't seem like him, and same with Robb's face and hair. Also, where are the Lannisters?! Quote

I've been having some trouble with a good dress for Cersei, so I've held off on posting the Lannisters as a whole. They and the Baratheons are coming shortly. :) Quote

They and the Baratheons are coming shortly. :) Great! I actually started on making some of my own customs. I kinda used the same design for Jon as you did. Its just great. I've only made him and Tyrion. I've found that the perfect hair for Tyrion is the Anakin Skywalker hair from 2007. Quote

They and the Baratheons are coming shortly. :) Cersei was often described in the books wearing a green dress, so maybe the new McGonagall's dark green outift would suit her? I'm assuming you're using the blonde long hair of Willie Scott's for her, since that's the perfect choice in my opinion. Quote
Dufresne Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) We have some new arrivals! I'm assuming you're using the blonde long hair of Willie Scott's for her, since that's the perfect choice in my opinion. Unfortunately I've never owned McGonagall in any form, so I don't have any of her dresses, and I never got that hair piece in blonde. Instead, I gave Cersei a white dress with a dark green cloak, and Ilsa's hair from the Venice Canal Chase. I'm happy enough with how she turned out. Edited June 23, 2011 by Dufresne Quote
Fives Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 I can see that you are not basing your characters on the show. They are good, though. I am going to post some of mine soon. Quote
Hoboman Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I think you have done a great job with this line of customs Dufresne. They look real good in my opinion. Quote
Praiter Yed Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 These are really cool! Although you have not based them on the TV show imo a lot of them look similar to the characters in the series - maybe this is down to good casting or maybe the relative simplistic style of minifig faces allows my imagination to fit them to the respective characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and am contemplating reading the books (don't think I can wait 'til next year to find out what happens next!). There's too many good ones here for me to list favourites Quote

F. L. D. Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I've only read the books and I've loved your work. Great customization, in part because you didn't use handcrafted parts. Quote
Dufresne Posted July 22, 2011 Author Posted July 22, 2011 Time for another batch of characters! Victarion, Theon, and Asha Greyjoy Shagga of the Stone Crows and Lord Jon Umber, the Greatjon George R. R. Martin himself I've also created figures of Grey Worm, Penny the dwarf, and Moqorro the Red Priest. As always, you can see the rest in the Flickr album. Quote
Si-MOCs Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 hehe very cool. I'm part way through book 2, so I only quickly skimmed through the figs (just in case ) So... any plans on recreating some of the more iconic settings and putting these figs to use? Quote
brickengraver Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 I am working my way through the series. Actually listening to it with audible.com. Excellent reader, Roy Detrice. And by listening I can be printing or engraving at same time. What do you think of a printed map on a baseplate of tiles. Could make a very cool puzzle. Quote
