She tried ignoring it, covering her ears, humming a tune to herself, but nothing covered up the noise of the Hall. With a sigh, Cinna heads to the door. She stops to check the quest board first and make sure her name was still marked on Quest 90, then heads out toward the marketplace. Perhaps the marketplace will be less chaotic than the Hall, at least nobody will be kicking down doors for no reason.

Mizuki yawned as she sat on the roof of Heroica Hall. Laying out her stuff beside her, Mizuki ate cake as she watched the population of Eubric scurry below.

"Can you please try not to break the doors? They aren't great doors but kicking them isn't helping." Johon mutters to Drake, then gets up and goes back to Purpearl.

"I recognise you. You are back. So did you manage to chase up to your girl?"

"There freshen up." and Purpearl pushes a mug towards Johon.

"It's just water from the well."

Posted

"Nah, thought I found her, but it was someone else."

Johon takes the mug gingerly and drinks plentifully. He hadn't realized how thirsty he had gotten.

"Thank you." Johon says, finishing the glass. "So are you signed up for any of the quests?"

"I've been attending to some family matters back home. How about yourself? You look well."

"I'm mostly fine, bit disheveled, and I drink to much it ain't healthy, but yeah, I'm well. I've been doing a fair amount of stuff lately, you know the usual, saving cities, saving islands, saving the bloody whole world. Nearly died, of course, and some other people did. We got Wren, Jess, we got her. It's done, but she got Triad, Bal and Hans first. I had to bury my friend in a godforsaken hellish temple."

Haldor sighs, deciding to cut to the point.

"Couldn't you have left a note, some clue, anything? I thought you'd pissed off for good, Jess." He holds up his hands. "I came this close to having the side of my head caved in, and when I returned... you weren't there. Do you know how that feels, Jess?"

The nord collapses back into his chair and looks away, a forlorn expression on his features.

"You're welcome."

"Ah those quests on the board? Yes all of them, except #81. Apparently one went missing in action."

"Creepy."

"Did you sign up for that one?"

Purpearl glances at all the quests on the board.

"Dark times. I wonder how many of us will return alive."

Dyric was still staring shocked at Jess' sudden appearance when Haldor walked. As much he'd like to talk to either one, he knew not to get involved.

He turned back to Thothwick, silent at the table.

Is it really just a few days until Baltarok? I could have sworn I came up to talk to you a few hours ago as it was going up. This Hall is weird.

"Ach, nothing touches my heart more than knowledge some poor watch officer won't be able to reassure everyone she's in charge. Are there any quests soon that might be of interest to me? Look at me, barely been back a day and I'm planning to get away again. I guess some part of me gets a kick from saving cities, and I want to do it again."

The raider let out a gruff chuckle, and waved his hand in the direction of the questing board. "This Baltarok trip seems like the most interesting thing right now. You should consider signing up. I don't believe we have actually fought together, have we Haldor?" The raider winked, and leaned back as Haldor started talking with an elf.

"And you, Hoke. I see you've got some fine artefacts there you don't seem to be using. Would you be happy to part with either your warrior's treads or that bastard Vonnetate's chains in exchange for one of these lovely eye-pokers? If you're planning on holding on to both of those, I'll be more than chuffed to just take the gold."

Hoke rubs his chin for a moment or two, mulling over Haldor's offer. He reaches into his pouch and hands Haldor 190 gold.

"Many thanks my friend."

"Actually I have..." Johon mutters. "I have some unfinished business with those creeps if they are picking off our heroes..."

*snip*

Jess's charade of calm crumbled.

"Haldor, I... I'm sorry I just... I got the message from my family and I had to leave. I didn't say goodbye to anyone; I barely had time to grab my things before I left. I'm sorry that I wasn't there. I'm sorry that these things have happened to you." Jess leaned in closer to the Nord. "I'm here now. Does that mean anything?"

Haldor looks back at her, his expression softening somewhat.

"'course it does. I know I shouldn't blame you for the things that happened there, it was nothing to do with you... I'm being unjust, I know. But... it was the blackest moment of my life so far Jess, were a good many points that I thought to myself "hey, what happens if we all get kicked-in down here and this witch is able to succeed?" When we came back, there was so much clonking about in my head that I needed someone real close to talk to. I have a great good many comrades, sure, bastards I can swing a pint or a sword with ease for, but I ain't got an awful lot of friends. One of our number betrayed us, tried to join the other side. Out of ignorance rather than malice, I'll give him that, but it is because of this that we lost Hans. That says it all, don't it? Who can a bloke really trust? These fighters and spell-flingers I went out there with, could have been any of 'em under the lies that Arthur was, I guess I just rely too easily."

He looked around for an ale, only to find his glass empty.

"I need to stop doing this crap to myself - too much thinkin' ain't good for a man. Sometimes you just gotta get off your ars.e and do stuff. This ain't gonna sort anyone's problems."

The nord paused for a moment.

"I'm glad you came back, Jess."

Jess listened quietly as Haldor spoke. Then, the words she wanted to hear finally crossed the Nord's lips.

"Shall we get another drink? I see that yours is empty."

Drake scurried away from the Marketplace and towards Heroica Hall. However, just before he hit the doors he swerved to the left and jumped behind a large rock. There, he gently moved a loose bit on the corner of the rock, revealing some kind of calculator asking maths questions. Drake hurriedly typed in the answers and the whole rock lifted, revealing a deep pit which he then jumped down, letting the rock drop down again and the angry troll that was chasing him be confused.

"Shall we get another drink? I see that yours is empty."

Haldor smiled.

"Yeah, let's do that. You find somewhere nice to sit, a little bit out of the way'd be nice... I don't think Guts wants to hear all of this. I'll go and give the bartender a kick."

He orders a couple of pints of ale and carries them over to the table at which Jess has decided to sit. The nord seats himself opposite her and waits for a little while before speaking.

"Damn, in all of this, I never asked about you, self-centred git that I am. How was the trip? Anything you'd like to share with me?"

Posted

Jess released a smile as she sipped her ale.

"Self-centered is one thing you are not, Haldor."

Jess's smile dimmed as she recalled her trip back home.

"My trip was... Interesting, I suppose you could say. Difficult circumstances; it was not a social visit. I'm not really comfortable discussing that right now, to be honest. In due time, I promise that I will tell you everything."

Jess downed the rest of her ale, then waited for Haldor's reply.

Haldor left his drink on the table, deciding better than to take a drink right then.

"Sad to hear that. I don't mean to pry, 'course, it's just struck me how little I know about you. Feels like I've known you for years, yet it's been a bloody long time since we last sat down and, you know... talked. As long as you're safe, as long as - well, you get that you can always share anything you want with me, don't you?"

"Yes, of course I do! And I will. In time. But right now... Let's talk about something else. Anything else."

Jess waived at the barkeep for another drink, then turned back to Haldor.

"You say you know little about me. Ask away, I'll answer anything you ask as long as it doesn't involve home."

Haldor stopped to think for a moment.

"I don't know - what do you like? What don't you like? That kind of - am I doing this wrong? Damn, I don't know what to say."

The nord stared intently into his still-full tankard, and waited.

OOC: it's okay if I come back right?

IC: De'kra found himself on a chair, dropped on a table. His body felt weak, and he was hyperventilating. His body shook, even as he looked down at his hands. His translucent hands.

"I remember.

It all flowed into him like an ocean, drowning him in fear. The truth was so simple, too massive to comprehend. But ther it was. He was dead, and he was decaying faster than ever.

He looked over his body, tiny amounts of vapor flowing off of him. He couldn't stop it, couldn't even slow it down. He needed help, maybe Nuparu could help, or was he Vakama now? Everything was so distant, save for the void. It's pull coming towards him.

De'kra's unfocused gaze drifted towards the quest board, that was hat it was called right? The Je Pei, they were smart right? They were offering a quest, maybe it he helped them, they would help.

De'kra signed up for Quest 91: The Sounds of Music. He probably won't be selected, he hadn't been here in so long. But he had to try. If not for him, then for the trillions who needed him.

OOC: I left because I was under the impression that I was not particularly liked here.

IC: De'kra sat back down, trying to stay focus. His body shook at intervals, its matter spreading out against his will. His eyes were an icy blue, struggling to remain calm.

"I don't know - what do you like? What don't you like? That kind of - am I doing this wrong? Damn, I don't know what to say."

Jess smiled at Haldor as she reached out to him.

Lifting his chin up to look into his eyes, Jess said "Calm down, Haldor. You're perfectly fine. I'll answer your questions."

Jess leaned back into her seat and contemplated a moment.

"My favorite color is green; tree green. Stereotypical answer for an elf, I know. I like the thundering beat of a drum. I like swordplay and getting the best of my opponents. I like things that are intelligent, such as a clever book or a cunning trap. I like -scratch that- love gold; that I'm sure you know. And finally, I like a good challenge. I like the feeling of victory after conquering an enemy or completing a difficult task."

Jess took a sip of her newly-brought ale, then thought another moment.

"I dislike enclosed spaces. I need room to run if I have to escape. So no dates to any caves. I dislike the hustle and bustle of the marketplace. I know it's necessary, but I do not enjoy my visits there. Hm... Cold rain. I do not like cold rain; snow is another matter, however. I'll admit, my youth shows through when it snows."

Jess grinned at the thought of snow. Her memories reached back to her youth, to snowball fights and building forts with... And then Jess's face darkened. She reached for her ale to hide it.

"Any more questions?"

After using the Heroes Gallery roster to confirm that Hybros was indeed not a dark-skinned gnome, En Sabah Nur decided to find out more about imps. On his way out he saw a small dark hooded figure. "Huh, another one. With only a second encounter, I must not be as world-traveled as I thought."
