Bricksandparts Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Have there been any bar fights in any quests yet? Haven't had time to read many quests so I'd figure I'd ask. Quote

I don't believe so. 84 was close to having a fight in a bar, but not an actually liquor fuelled fight. Edited June 8, 2014 by Kintobor Quote

Flare Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Have there been any bar fights in any quests yet? Haven't had time to read many quests so I'd figure I'd ask. As Obelix said, there was one in #57. Quest 47 had one. You meant 57, right? Quote
Endgame Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Nope, 47, the Joust. Sarge shot someone in a bar and peeved them all off, if I recall. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Hmm, I'm thinking about doing one, although it'd probably won't be in 95. Maybe my next quest once I get LDD back to working... Quote
Endgame Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 What exactly is currently wrong with LDD, Bricksandparts? Quote
Bricksandparts Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 (edited) What exactly is currently wrong with LDD, Bricksandparts? For some people, it won't load properly. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but I think I'll be ordering a new graphics card soon, so hopefully that'll fix the issue. That's why the pictures for the quest aren't lego: Edited June 8, 2014 by Bricksandparts Quote
Endgame Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Did you update it recently? I haven't updated for 6 months, so now I'm a bit afraid to. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Uh, it automatically updates... So yeah, that's the issue. When it updated to the most recent version, it got stuck installing. It'd install all the bricks and then simply crash. Quote
Endgame Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Not for me, it doesn't - it always gives me a choice. That happened to me once. I just uninstalled and reinstalled it. It doesn't get rid of your .lxfs, if I remember. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I've tried that, and the same issue appears... Some others had the same issue as me, however most of the time it gave them the option to run in offline mode without updating. However, I was not given that option, rather the launcher crashes and closes down immediately after trying to update. Quote
Palathadric Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Don't worry. The drawings are highly entertaining. Quote
Zepher Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 77 had a bar fight as well. So to answer your question, yes they've been done, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be done again! Quote
Palathadric Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 The more the merrier. If there is a bar, there is no reason there shouldn't be a fight. Quote
Vash the Stampede Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 What's a quest without a good bar fight? Quote
Palathadric Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Oh for the days when Heroica Hall had such fights! Quote
Comrade Commander Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I am starting to toy with developing some lore and/or related Quest. But in order not to step on any toes, does anyone know if the following islands have been developed in a quest before? Quote
Kintobor Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Not that I'm aware of. If you want to share ideas, you're more than welcome to. Quote

Actaeon Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 It's more of a question for the QM lounge and it really relates to QMing philosophy and style. If you have all the pictures taken you're a little more limited on where and what your party can do, however it allows the quest to go at a quicker pace (generally) because you have everything prepared. This is generally more typical of a railroading quest style. If you want to provide your players with more freedom by building as you go, then you'll tend more towards an open world quest style, however unless you have a ton of free time on your hands, you may take a lot longer to update your quest because it is dependent on you building and photographing scenes. Personally I aim at more of a happy medium, build the main sets that I think the quest will necessitate and then build some stuff on the fly if the party wants to try something that I haven't planned on. Railroaded quests tend to go smoother, but can get on PC's nerves because people like options. Open world quests give options, but generally PC's have to really be able to take the initiative and try stuff out otherwise people just sit around asking "what do you want to do?". I moved it to this thread, as you advised. Thanks for the info! I'm sure it depends on the person, but is there a general preference for railroad or open world quests? Also, what do you do if people are going in the wrong direction during a quest? Like if the party has spent a month in the wrong place searching for the wrong thing. Does the QM step in or at least hint that they're doing it wrong? Quote

You're right in that is a matter of preference, but given the way Heroica RPG is structured most quests are semi-railroaded. In a way they have to be because there is a distinct dichotomy between "on a quest" and "not on a quest". When you're "on a quest" you have an impact on the world/story of Heroica RPG when you're "not on a quest" i.e. in the hall/marketplace/etc. you really don't have any impact on the world/story of Heroica RPG. In this way it's different from say an ongoing D&D campaign in which the heroes are continually impacting the world and hop from quest to quest and wander where ever they want. Thus QM's generally have a preplanned scenario/story they are trying to follow. Heroica RPG is very episodic in nature, thus I doubt you'd ever see any QM let their PC's wander for a month without steering them in the right direction, because generally the goals of the given quest are laid out pretty plainly. I will qualify all of this in that some people are better at "hiding" railroading than others though. Edited June 17, 2014 by Waterbrick Down Quote

I remember reading Brick Doctor's first few comments in this topic asking if we could ever see an open-world quest. It seems that probably won't ever happen. Semi-railroaded sounds like a good balance. My ultimate goal in this epic group is to host a quest. It probably won't happen for a long while, but I want to have as much information as I can when I do plan one. I know that most of the information will come from experience, but there some that won't. Thanks for answering my questions! Quote
